I listened to the new TXT song and.... I wish I hadn't.

Ever since they hopped on the pop rock trend they've been embarrassingly cringe

Twice's success in Japan is undeniable, and they clearly still have a strong fanbase there, but interest from the GP has kinda died (NiziU's debut didn't help either). Their album sales are still decent, but they haven't really had a HIT there since... TT??? Either way it's been a while (Feel Special is doing fine longevity wise but really lacks in ubiquity).

Having Japanese members definitely help, but I think it's much more important to have regular Japanese output and tie-ups+TV appearances to maintain a consistent presence there. I find that almost all companies that make a serious shot at success in Japan go all in in publicity for a few months to get a hit. And even if said hit does happen, they just peace out of Japan, save for a few performances and concerts here and there every so often. Which is a problem because any scaling back of publicity screams fad to the GP, which reduces interest in future comebacks.

The fact that Perfume!!!!! of all groups are topping the girl group power ranking really just goes to show that the GG scene in Japan is pretty much an empty house. It's going to be interesting to watch how HYBE is going to manage LSFM in Japan because that throne really is theirs for the taking if they manage to invest smartly.

The feels was pretty big in Japan and Japanese tiktok

their first ever comeback was rock influenced

like 5/7 of their title tracks all have rock elements

I must've missed some cuz I only heard synthpop perfection

What I meant was the Lovesong + Loser Lover double punch of trash though

I don't think anyone would leave TWICE. They make way too much money from touring. They'd probably renew their contract for 4 or 5 years before disbanding

The Twice girlies are too introverted to be brave enough to go and make their career by themselves out there. They would just stick with what works and that is with JYP imo :giraffe:

I didn't realise that The Feels was doing well over there. But I think this just furthers my point about companies not leveraging post-peak successes to maximize their brand in Japan.

(+The Feels may be their most streamed song, but streaming has grown massively in Japan in the past few years, so comparing stats with say, 4-5 years ago, isn't a fair comparison, and I think that they're still on an overall decline. )

I have nothing to add to this conversation except to say that when I was in Kamakura I heard TT literally blasting into the streets from buildings :rip:

Regarding twice renewals, if anyone decides to leave i think they will sign an extension for a year or two, it's very safe in the sense that they get to explore solo careers in music, acting and more and still get to promote and earn money with twice cbs and tours

Okay?? we are in 2022 feel special has a better longevity than TT, and is already their biggest hit in japan. Impact wise that’s another story.
All their title track songs are at least gold certified. So I don’t know what are you on.

You can’t say they’re in decline then saying next sentence streaming is growing since it means eventually their sales will decline.
Only BG have good sales so far but their streaming are **** (exc Bts) :alexz2:
They’re showing no decline since they have been consistent for the past 5 years in japan.
but making sense.

I don't understand this "too introverted" thing. Many western pop singers are introverts and are still successful. Being introverted doesn't mean you're not brave or that you don't have iniciative or even that you don't enjoy going to parties. You're probably confusing it with social anxiety. Chungha, for example, is an introvert and a great kpop solo act :giraffe:

throwing my thots on twice renewals out, but Jeongyeon needs a long hiatus if not a withdrawal from idol life. she’s very talented, but I worry about her longterm health

maybe a transition into a Bom-like performer with minimal movement would help, but Twice songs aren’t giving her voice the shine it deserves

w/all the hate and korean netizens calling her right-wing you'd think she'd keep quiet about controversial topics like gay rights in SK but I'm glad she didn't :clap3:

-??? I was talking abt impact tho? What do you think ubiquity means?

-i literally said they've maintained a decent sized fanbase so of course their releases will be gold cerified minimally?

-Streaming as a platform is growing. https://www.statista.com/topics/6015/streaming-in-japan/#topicHeader__wrapper It has literally more than doubled in revenue since 2017. Its not unnatural to expect that a 2022 hit can do better numbers on streaming than a HIT in 2017.

-No decline? Then explain why each of their physical releases (which reflects number of stans) has been selling less than the last since 2018? https://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/663384/rank/single/

-NONE of this takes away from the fact that they have been and ARE still doing well in Japan. Their touring numbers don't lie. But they are still on a general overall decline, and that's fine! Not all declines need to serve that Ciara gif.
