SNSD are big on full albums, always have been. I was expecting this from them, maybe naively, but I'm glad I was right.

I mean it's SNSD Korean album so we will get the same number of good songs as a RV mini anyway

NL is a bigger hit than any RV song and Girls doubled RV's highest sales. Obviously they aren't bigger overall but they are certainly way, way bigger than RV were at the equivalent point in their career (mid 2016, they had just release OOTN and hadn't even had a big hit yet :skull:)

I will agree however that Aespa will almost certainly not have RV's longevity, especially if they stick with the Kwangya nonsense

Last part is not true. Ice Cream Cake peaked at #4 on Gaon and Dumb Dumb peaked at #2. Dumb Dumb was a big hit and was putting them on the map...until OOTN happened. :rip:

A like for like comparison is not accurate, because the K-Pop landscape has changed. aespa has also been given opportunities that RV never got.

aespa will obviously be much bigger in the long run given the amazing start they've had.

But RV is not a flop or hasbeen, their strength is their amazing longevity. Feel My Rhythm performed significantly better than Girls has on the charts so far, a smash in the 8th year is not easy for any K-Pop group really. And whilst their physicals don't match aespa's, glowing up from a 99k album in 2019, to half-million selling album in 2022 is also a sign that there's still a lot of mileage left in the group. It's not a f(x) situation.

We've only had tiny crumbs e.g. in the last few weeks, Wendy and Seulgi posted (separately) about being at writing camps. So we know they've at least worked on new material recently. No idea if it's for the group or solos...

It doesn't seem like they're practising anything at the moment, but you never know. They're going to London for a festival next week, so I doubt they'll be announcing anything yet. I'm more than happy to be surprised though!

Fair comments - big hit is probably not the phrase, maybe smash hit. I just meant they hadn't had their Red Flavor moment yet.
Obviously I'm a Red Velvet stan too so I have no skin in the game here.

I think it should be clear to anyone without stan goggles that Aespa are set up to be bigger than RV were, overall, unless things go very wrong.

For the record I also think RV had released better music by the same point in their careers, The Red & the ICC mini both superior to either of Aespa's albums

I think with aespa, Next Level was just the right song at the right time, and I'm so happy for them that they snatched that so early on because it has supercharged their career.

It is true, RV didn't get that same level of smash until they were 3 years in, but then SM's management of RV had been very shaky/messy until Red Flavor came along. OOTN literally killed their momentum and set them back massively.

They seem much more sure of what they're doing with aespa, which is good. Girls is more of a moderate hit, but the huge sales and GP interest have not changed (see 5 songs charting at the same time on Melon). So aespa is in a great place at the front of the pack :clap3:

Snsd will probably go with something like i got a boy or next level,  i think thats the reason why aespa went with more mainstream structure not changing tempo here and there this time aroubd because snsd will probably release something similar to NL/IGAB music wise.

lol what else would we say it was just a teaser pic that was released we have no idea about anything except the date (Twice week) and the tittle track

I've never stanned StayC or other groups who were very liked in this thread I think this is the first time I coincide with a group that a lot of people like in the thread

so yeah the girls must be doing something right :gaycat2:

Wendy at a writing camp can mean something for the group since she already had her solo and it’s too soon for another one, Seulgi prepping for a solo makes sense, I wouldn’t mind being surprised but I’m just annoyed since they confirmed the festival will continue like ReVe 2019 and yet it’s been 4 months since part one :frown:
