1989 is going to be so incredibly difficult to recreate. It felt like she made it her mission to make that album as airtight and as squeaky clean as possible. It’s going to be hard to let go of the original and replace it with a new version that I struggle to believe will capture the same energy.

Debut and Speak Now - like Fearless - will benefit from her new vocals. If anything, the shaky, childish vocals are the only weak point of her early stuff. The slow ballads and love songs only improve with her improved voice.

The part of RED that is made up of similarly heart-on-her-sleeve songwriting was the same. The vast majority of those songs improved. However, the radio pop songs on the album failed miserably to capture the lighting-in-a bottle magic and boldness and fun of the originals. The public and fan base alike know every single tiny little vocal inflexion and microscopic background noise in those tracks. The new versions didn’t hold up.

Reputation will be fine too as her improved vocals will only boost the energy of the underrated and lesser known (among non-stans) album and it still feels like there is new places for her to go on the vault tracks. There’s still some unsettled scores and deeper places to go on the re-recording. She has the opportunity to rewrite the album’s chequered history and gain it new appreciation (both critically and commercially).

But the beauty of 1989 is its unapologetic cleanness. You can tell she had to hold herself back at so many opportunities on the album in order to produce such a tight, cohesive, restrained set of songs full of addictive pop hooks and earworms that tied her signature writing together with a frustratingly neat bow. 1989 could have easily become a Lover-like mess of an album at any moment if she hadn’t set out on making it her top priority that it would be as close to her idea of perfection as possible. Even though it’s not my favourite work from her, there is nothing messy or out of place on that album. Everything is just perfectly in the right place (to an almost off-putting level). Every squeak in her voice is there for a reason. She wanted that AOTY and she did everything she needed to to produce an album that was an absolutely instant classic.

I just struggle to be excited about the prospect of updating an album that was created to be “perfection”. And that’s on top of the fact that the singles are so deeply ingrained in everyone’s minds as they were never off the radio. How is she supposed to recreate that Shake it Off bridge?

I don’t know how she’s going to go about recreating her “signature” album (broadly speaking) but I hope that she’s gone in with the exact same mindset she did the first time around in order to preserve its sheer timelessness. If she pulls it off then she’s capable of anything as far as I’m concerned.

But we need her to do an intimate concert to recreate the live Speak Now album.

Someday, I need the NARAS/GRAMMYs make an official statement that winning AOTY also means winning record AND song of the year as many times as the number of songs in the AOTY category winner. :eli:

How All Too Well (10-Minute Version) LOST is beyond me. The devil works hard, but Jake and his rich friends in Hollywood works harder.

ATW lost because of 1) her pushing it as a short film to get an Oscar and people seeing through it and 2) it was a 10 (?) year old song.

That said, I hope she goes all out for Anti-Hero as song of the year because it's one that truly deserves it.

1.6M streams less than Tuesday but more unique listeners (+85k). Weird. I guess people were streaming the whole Speak Now album.

I have to say, I don't use a single Fearless vault track or Red for that matter. Some of them are cute but cute next to gorgeous... you know the rest:sherlock:

I don't know why but I have a good feeling re: Speak Now vault tracks. The upward trajectory shall continue!

I like them! But I just rarely feel compelled to listen to any of them bar ATW10. I actually can't remember the last time I played one :rip: I do think I Bet You Think About Me is fun but I kind of hate what she did to Babe. The rest are cute for sure but I think I'll always prefer songs like Treacherous, I Almost Do, Begin Again, The Last Time, State of Grace, Sad Beautiful Tragic and Red to the vaults

The new Babe is gorgeous :jonny6:

Much better than the other one form that band

I should add that I have somewhat weird preferences for Taylor. Like I prefer Midnights standard to the 3AM and my favorite albums are Rep and Evermore :dies:

It must be said that some fans do too much on Midnights, it's top tier in my opinion. Been listening to Maroon all day :wanda:

I appreciate that she and Jack switched it up, I just don't like the choices they made like 'what about your promises, promises' refrain or the trumpet section. I adore the original though (never heard another song by that band though) so let me give Taylor's a quick listen. Perhaps my opinion has changed!

Hopefully it has!

And looooove the trumpet section. Babe is the perfect country-pop song imo

I see.

I love Nothing New and Forever Winter with a passion. Better Man and Babe are amazing as well.

Yeah, I desperately need her to release a one-off studio cover of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow with the same instrumental from the RNRHOF performance. I think it could be a hit if it was promoted a little, given her current hype… her Creepin’ perhaps? :jonny:

Matty's actions are indefensible but the online responses have been so ******* weird, like.... what does the news of the relationship reveal about Taylor that we didn't already know? That she has no problem associating with awful people? That she doesn't care about what her fans think? That she has horrible taste in men? That Tree sucks at her job? The way people are acting makes you think she suddenly became the female Kanye or something.

I hope Taylor will use this to somehow confront these psycho Gaylors. This isn’t about MH anymore. They are just mad she isn’t behaving like they want her to.
