Listening again - as I do often lately, it was my most played album of November actually - I'm actually almost a little mad retrospectively at the critical reception for The Anthology specifically being marred by nonsense opinions primarily informed by her personal status. I hope it doesn't discourage her from exploring a similar genre path again sometime in the future. While I think The Anthology shares a stunning amount of sonic DNA with Evermore in particular, it's also singular and unique in her discography - she doesn't have another song like The Prophecy, or another song quite like The Black Dog, or The Albatross, or The Bolter, or I Look In People's Windows. It's such a PERFECT sound for her, too, like get on board losers! And I have no doubt that much of the derision from other fanbases comes from people who didn't actually even listen to The Anthology at all, particularly comments about TTPD sounding same-y (a glaring flaw in that criticism being that there are two incredibly distinct sounds between the two sides of the double album). Ugh, it's so ******* good. I still remember starting the first couple songs that first night and immediately realizing "holy ****, she actually gave us Evermore 2" - the collapse from which I'll never recover :jonny3:

I Look In People's Windows is probably the sound I want her to explore more. The song is so short and makes me want to listen to it on a loop :jonny5:

I've been refreshing HDD periodically today - still nothing. Very annoying. It basically all comes down to how many copies they bothered to press, and I'm disappointed to say I think they severely underestimated demand.

I have thought about the TS12 sound, and I think it will be a happier Lover in the body of a happier Reputation. I hope she will use instruments. This is going to be an interesting album for sure. I have a feeling it's gonna be really good. She must have noticed what the media and industry are trying to do.

I just want a 10-12 track album with full of pop bangers.

She didn't do that since Lover even though she had a lot of opportunities so I am not sure that is something she is interested in pursuing.

Her insta story very much reads like "idc what the industry thinks"

We're definitely not getting a 10-12 track album. She's not with Big Machine anymore and we're in the streaming era. And she had plenty to write about in the past year.

Like she should. The radio, media and industry dropped her after 1989. She only got some of the support back because her success with Folkmore. She should just ignore them and keep focusing on the fans. Make them seethe because they have no influence.

They definitely underestimated demand because they were sold out instantly as soon as target stores opened

One amazing thing about her blurring the lines between eras in the past few years is that she can revisit stuff whenever she wants and nobody will find it odd.

August short film in 2025? Sure!

Cruel Summer MV in 2027? Sure!

evermore LPSS in 2030? Sure!

And many such cases where random revisitations could fit, of course. There's no rules anymore about concurrent eras.

Anyway, I still have to laugh at the absolute mass cope that streams and sales don't matter. Even funnier when the people who parrot this talking point suddenly LOVE to use numbers in arguments where they have the upper hand :ahh:

It's almost like you need to factor in the number of people interacting with an artist's music if you want to measure the influence and impact of it. An artist's music is, by default, extremely impactful if it has resonated with people well enough to be mass consumed by streaming era audiences after nearly two decades, when said artist debuted in the physical (on the brink of digital) era. This isn't even factoring in the very well-documented and tangible impact outside of this.

Or, well, I guess that's too logical and busts through the major cognitive dissonance we are witnessing. Oh well!

I just got my Eras tour book (and also an Anthology CD - thanks to a very VERY generous colleague of mine) and looking at the photos and seeing the stories from her POV makes me sad to see this tour coming to a close this weekend but I'll always be forever grateful that I was able to attend (mine was the Speak Now TV announcement show - drove over 600 miles for it and not one single soul left me disappointed). you can really tell how much effort/detail was put into every millisecond of each show. Can't wait to watch a grainy livestream on the final night - catch me going to bed at like 2 am
