Starting to realize I should go a few years back to take more English classes. 1

Starting to realize I should go a few years back to take more English classes. To be fair, as someone who speaks nothing else fluently, English always be a disaster of a language no matter how much you learn - and from our conversations here, I’d guess that you’re better at it than like 90% of Americans. 2 1
1989 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I think it’s pretty obvious that Folklore and Evermore are considered ‘fictional’ as entire bodies of work because for the first time in her career, Taylor wrote them largely about other people/characters, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t also include songs about herself/her life. My Tears Ricochet, Mirrorball, Invisible String, Mad Woman, Peace, Hoax, The Lakes, Tolerate It, Long Story Short, Closure, It’s Time To Go…all of these are very clearly not about someone else. 7

She usually misses with those and they end up being cringe as ****, but when she gets it right its RIGHT. In fact, Karma was her best Pop single to me since....Delicate. But then Cruel Smasher snatched it I agree with most of your points and it tends to really hit from time to time, but the main two reasons I’m glad she put it out in the first place are that she somewhat put a stop to the insufferable original TS6 theories and that she finally acknowledged and dedicated a song to Tayvoodoo after all these years… 3
Lemon Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I wouldn’t say Karma is better than God’s Rain or BeJesus because I tend to listen to them in group and all three are standard edition’s highlights for sure. 1
Michael196 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Not sure if it’s just algorithm, but ever since the tour started and especially after the film got released on digital, ‘tolerate it’ & ‘illicit affairs’ clips have been popping on the tl on an almost daily basis, more than any of the other songs off the setlist by a long shot. And what I want to point out is that I’m so happy that these two in particular are getting all this love and appreciation since they are the absolute standouts off the tour and I’m still in disbelief that she put them on the setlist, and grateful that I will get to experience them no matter which show I’ll attend and what surprise songs she does at it, but at the same time I’m getting annoyed that these were supposed to remain our niche cult classics, for me especially since they were the ones that caught me off guard around each of their album releases and have held them since as the best tracks off the albums and top two off her discography, which is a pretty big statements considering the insane competition they have. At the same time, I can’t blame anyone for falling in love with them especially with the incredible presentation she gave each, like I was gripping at the seat during tolerate it, trying to hold it together and if that was just through a screen, I can’t imagine what the live experience will do to me later this year. 1
