in my book she can do whatever tf she wants. im just happy she's still alive and giving us something to talk about on a daily basis.

was the performance flawless? obviously not

was the performance entertaining? yes

I feel you. I'm not trying to rain on anybody's parade or persuade people it was a bad performance here. I just don't like how people that aren't super satisfied with it are getting attacked as ageist per se. Showing up late and scheduling/deciding not to do (sufficient) rehearsing is a choice and has nothing to do with age, regardless of whether you enjoy the output stemming from it or not. Just my 2 cents...

People are being too harsh on her IMO, let her be as....questionable as she wants to be, she's allowed to be messy and be kooky after decades of Olympian discipline. I do wonder when she decided to say "**** it" and be a chaotic old lady :deadbanana2:

I must say though her strong fitness and regime is what I liked the most about her and watching it vanish is a little sad :emofish:

that's a bit too easy, don't you think?

Imo, there's a distinct difference between people criticizing physical limitations that just naturally come with aging process and people ciritzing a seeming sudden drop in her work ethics (as in constantly showing up 3-4hrs late to her concerts to play a cut set, and messy televised performances that could've been enhanced, if she cared and properly rehearsed). I say this with love.

What seeming drop in her work ethic though :rip:

She literally toured extensively (75 shows!) with a completely torn knee that would have made any 20 year old cancel their career for at least a year. I attended the last MXT date and she literally broke down in tears midway because she was too bothered by the pain and yet still continued what was an epic show without messing a step.

Going through something like that in your 60’s is no walk in the park and it most likely it permanently affects you. But to pretend like she doesn’t give a **** or lost her work ethic when she literally has 6 kids now, has finished writing a movie + will soon direct it, and toured an epic show literally in the 2020’s is so harsh IMO. And Im not saying that cause im stan, i thought rebel heart tour was trash.

She is never going to be the same, we just have to get used to that and remember that this woman was already performing almost 2 decades before I was even born

As I said in the other thread, she's probably working too much as always and needs to chill a bit.

But other than that I love that she's letting loose of her perfectionist side and appears as a human being, not the demigoddess we're used to. Watching the performance was like listening to Joan of Arc for the first time, I remember how glad I was that she admitted to any kind of weaknesses.

She's a human like us after all and although her career is defined by her always maximizing her strenghts, it's especially the moments where she's vulnerable that stand out to me: Her confessional songs on LAP, Erotica and AL, Joan of Arc, BRITS 2015, Tears of a Clown and now the post-MX era saga. That's not Madonna the legend, that's Madonna the person, a person we know so much yet so little about. That's why moments where her real personality comes through are kind of precious to me.

And after all, I ask myself: Could I have done the same thing she did under the same circumstances? Absolutely not. And I'm 40 years younger. ***** had a blast on that stage and I enjoyed watching her.

Also might I add that she was so relatable, like please, let me sue, cause she's copying my moves when I listen to Grammy Candy

I totally see your point, and I’m not trying to make anybody change their mind.

As a fan I’m well aware of all the circumstances you mentioned. And I’m not posting to diminish any of her performing qualities in general.

Yet, for me there’s no defending for that Eurovision performance or also the underwhelming show MXT was. That Maluma appaearance seemed like an unrehearsed mess, as well, that was not on par with her perfectionist executions her brand (used to?) stand for.

I also attended the MXT in Paris on one of the final dates. I had three friends travel with me: she was almost 4 hours late (my friends had been dead asleep by the time she actually came on stage). Moreover, she skipped the first act, at times she didn’t even bother lip syncing, and then also the video wall crashed. As a person, I feel awfully sorry for her pain she quite visibly suffered from - but the following question remains, regardless: is it fair to offer this kind of experience to people who spent 1+k on flights, hotel and tickets to see this?
This question has to be answered individually for each - if your answer to this is yes, I’m happy for you. If someone’s answer is no, that doesn’t make them a hater or an ageist. That’s all I’m saying.

The fan bases share a lot in common with some religious groups, I believe. :rip: Blinded, biased and in denial towards the most obvious things.

Just watched the performance again and I'm still shocked. It's crazy to read people who are "fans" making excuses and just being happy she just got on stage, regardless of what she's actually doing, which is a hard to watch mess.

We as fans have been seeing her performing more than the regular people, we've seen every video/tour/live performance at least 10 times. We know what she can do.  The amount of mistakes she made is alarming, she seemed lost and out of her damn mind, there are so many signs.

Have you watched the very end of the performance before she got on top of Maluma? :deadbanana: You can't tell me you watched that without feeling sad and confused.

Omg, I was in that show as well. 23 feb? It was my bday. :deadbanana: One of the videos failed and she came out before to apologize. She was late af and the theater was ******* HOT.

I still liked the show but I felt bad for her. You can tell she was under a lot of pain.

Yeah, we attended the same show then. The theatre was a shithole. Couldn't see ****, chairs were uncomfortable (especially after that wait), it was cramped and like you said there was no air and it was super hot. Yikes!

Her last usual arena tour was in her late 50s, she's now in her mid 60s with obvious health struggles. So no, we don't know what she is able to do nowadays that's NOT destroying her body, only she and her doctors know that. I suggest we wait whether this performance was an exception or whether there is a new normal developing.

They said she lost her mind during the Tears of a Clown phase where she was obviously struggling mentally, but she got over that as well. You don't have to like what she's doing, but it's not fair to hold her current self that has to handle A LOT to standards she was able to fulfil 10 years ago.

When I said “we know what she can do” I’m talking about her vision, professionalism and skills to put on a good show. We’re talking about ******* Madonna, she knows how to put on a good show.I don’t expect yoga poses or non-stop choreography but also not a freakshow.
The Medellin performance from the Billboard Awards was cute and didn’t require a lot from her.

But again, this goes beyond me wanting her to do a good performance. I want her to be healthy and happy and it doesn’t look like she’s in a good place right now.

It's funny how so many people are screaming "spare me the excuses - she can do better!" when, in reality, her recent performing DOES have to do with her age (noticed how drastically she slowed down after MDNA Tour) and it does have to do with her hip (her doctor said she can't even hear heels often). And this recent performance with Maluma does have to do with not enough rehearsal time. All of those combined made the performance look so "messy."

Imagine how much more she would be dragged if she just stood in place and slightly bopped to one of her biggest dance songs like Cher has been doing for 50+ years.

The only thing that is 100% her fault is her styling - at least that she can help but is surrounded by worshipping staff that can't tell her no.

Imagine if the Britney fans would’ve done that, lol. She’d still be in that awful conservatorship.
And do not dictate what should/shouldn’t talk about. Thanks.

And again, this is not a simple “I didn’t like the performance”. She looked and acted unwell, you guys let a ***** live and express my opinion. Am I not allowed to be worried about her? Jeez. Are we supposed to just clap like idiots even if she presents herself like this and justify everything she does?

The ageism, bashing party she suffers constantly has nothing to do with this (not with me, at least). And I’m reading a lot of fans who feel the same. Learn to differentiate people who are worried and people who just bash her because they hate her.
