Letemtalk Posted August 15, 2023 Author Posted August 15, 2023 Too many videos to post from the last week, but this might be one of the best. URL updated to replace broken link from 2023. Lorde at Sziget Festival 2023 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rEWQP9U7LE The whole show is great, but if you just have a few minutes, Green Light with Caroline Polachek starts just after 54 minutes, near the end of the video. Or one of these: Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rEWQP9U7LE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcdPMGanzhM https://twitter.com/polacheknews/status/1691159244916068352 https://www.nme.com/en/news/music/watch-lorde-perform-green-light-with-caroline-polacheck-at-sziget-festival-2023-3483087 https://www.stereogum.com/2233098/watch-lorde-bring-out-caroline-polachek-for-green-light-in-budapest/news/ https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/lorde/2023/obudai-sziget-budapest-hungary-7ba5ae90.html 1
Letemtalk Posted August 17, 2023 Author Posted August 17, 2023 Did we win here with the "Night Vision edition" of her 'Solar Power' tour? https://readdork.com/live/lorde-sziget-festival-review-2023/ - we got the hint of a new era, even if it hasn't begun - we got her first proper instagram update since the solar power release - we got new synth-pop performances of songs - we got to hear two "new" unreleased songs - we got shows with a lot of music in a short space of time - we got to see Lorde and Caroline Polachek perform together NME: Øya 2023 review Quote Having kicked off the “Night Vision edition” of her ‘Solar Power’ tour a few nights prior in Ireland, Lorde’s new set is a far more minimal affair than the sun-chasing colourama of her previous era. This one is more fitting for speeding between clubs and afterparties in the witching hour than heading to the beach. To tap a recent meme, this Lorde seems a little more Oppenheimer than Barbie. Quote “These are the only shows I will play this year,” says Ella Yelich-O’Connor of her handful of summer festival dates, telling the gathered ravers that Norway was among these lucky locations because she “loves it” and “feels like dancing”. Oslo responds in kind as we bop through the machine-gun run of closing bangers ‘The Louvre’, ‘Supercut’, ‘Ribs’ and ‘Green Light’ – some last shots to keep us intoxicated until Lorde’s big night out returns in 2024 (we hope). https://www.nme.com/reviews/live/oya-2023-blur-boygenius-sigrid-review-photos-3483075 Or maybe we didn't win... in case you missed this part here: “These are the only shows I will play this year,” says Ella Yelich-O’Connor of her handful of summer festival dates That sounds like no new music in 2023, because she must be doing some live performances when she releases. Perhaps she isn't counting a few promo performances for a single release. Spoiler Just another 5 months waiting until we get to the 2024 new album season

Letemtalk Posted September 12, 2023 Author Posted September 12, 2023 Rolling Stone: Olivia Rodrigo Is So Over Heartbreak https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/olivia-rodrigo-guts-vampire-lyrics-meaning-1234819181/ Quote Rodrigo would rather be seen as a singer-songwriter than a pop star. When we discuss her idols, she mentions the impact Lorde had on her as a child. “I remember hearing ‘Royals’ on the radio,” she says. “I was like, ‘Wow, you can make a song about anything that you’re feeling.’ It doesn’t have to be this breakup song. She wrote an album about what it was like to be 15 in the suburbs and feeling lost” — a theme that resonated with Rodrigo, who was 10 years old living in the quiet town of Temecula, California, at the time.
Letemtalk Posted September 14, 2023 Author Posted September 14, 2023 Quick quiz (because the base is dead) Q1. Will we get an email from Lorde? a) this week, the week beginning 11-Sep, there's still a few days left. b) next week, the week beginning 18-Sep. c) the following week, which is the Pure Heroine 10th anniversary. d) October or later. -- Update: There were two correct answers. The first email came on 20 or 21 September 2023, depending on your timezone, followed by another on the 10th anniversary of Pure Heroine. Q2. Will we get an RIAA certification update for all those uncertified and undercertified Pure Heroine tracks on the Pure Heroine 10th anniversary, or not long after? a) yes, September or October. b) yes, but November or December. c) yes, but in 2024 or whenever she releases L4. d) yes, not just Pure Heroine, but Melodrama will get it's overdue platinum update this year too. e) no, Ribs will never be RIAA certified. -- Update 29 September 2023: Pure Heroine 5x Platinum, Royals 13x Platinum, Team 5x Platinum, Ribs 2x Platinum, Tennis Court 2x Platinum, Glory and Gore Platinum. Q3. some people seem to be speculating on this one, but feel free to skip if not interested, will Lorde feature on 1989 TV when it's released in a few months? a) Yes, but not on a Jack Antonoff produced track, they probably had a falling out. b) Yes, they might have had a falling out, but perhaps they recorded something years ago. c) Yes, and there was no major falling out, she will be on a new Jack produced track on 1989 TV. d) no way, not in a million years, she is focusing on her own music. -- Update: There are no featured artists announced for 1989 TV so this is the closest answer. Spoiler My predictions as of 15-Sep-2023 Spoiler Q1(c), Q2(c) and Q3(d) although Q2 could end up with any of those answers coming true and it wouldn't shock me.

Letemtalk Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 She voted in New Zealand elections while she was in NYC, which meant she wasn't planning to fly home right away. Now she appears to be working on her album in NYC. Spyfriend Ella Yelich-O’Connor a.k.a. Lorde is also in town, working on new [redacted]. One afternoon she picked me up and we headed over to the Greenpoint showroom of antique-Japanese-textiles dealer Sri Threads, which is a spot Erin’s been following for a minute but one we’ve never hit up IRL. Letemtalk Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 She's taking the New York City subway again. This reminds me of the Melodrama era where she would ride the subway while listening to her album: Quote “I love the subway. It was really nice, writing this record, I would sit there and listen to the work, and it helped me kind of be around people, you know, because when you’re working in a studio, you’re very isolated and hang out with kind of just a couple people,” said Lorde, “I feel like [the subway] reintroduced me back into society.” https://www.wmagazine.com/story/lorde-new-york-city-subway Quote Because Lorde moved to New York City to wrap up the album, she did what all New Yorkers do and tuned everyone out on various trains and cab rides by listening to music. Except Lorde was listening to her own album. Or at least the early demos of it, to figure out what worked and what didn’t. “In a lot of ways I felt like a little monk, drifting down into the subway, being very solitary and just thinking about the music all the time and not really socializing very much,” she told Rolling Stone. https://www.vulture.com/2017/06/lorde-melodrama-guide.html

Letemtalk Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Lorde seen with Jim-E Stack and 'How Long Gone' podcast host, Chris Black in NYC on Saturday 2nd December. I'm not sure if Jim-E Stack was a podcast guest, or maybe it was just a night off from recording. https://twitter.com/Lorde_fix/status/1731451407440769286 https://twitter.com/LordeBrasil/status/1731392567005094008 The last time Lorde was seen in NYC as late in the year as December, was probably late 2016, when she was finishing Melodrama. Not long after that, in early 2017, we found that she was booked for multiple festivals for what became the beginning of the Melodrama tour. Most years she would be back home in Auckland by early December, probably spending time on the beach. 2

Letemtalk Posted December 13, 2023 Author Posted December 13, 2023 Billboard: Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo & More: The Year Of Sarcastic Songwriting "This sort of tongue-in-cheek accountability .... harks back to a pivotal album released a decade earlier. Lorde’s 2013 debut, Pure Heroine, was defined by its pointed pop songwriting, with couplets that bemoan the singer’s own shortcomings just as much as they deride and analyze the world around her. Ten years later, pop music in 2023 has proved that not only is this style of songwriting here to stay, but it has also become increasingly reflective of diversity and representation in popular media." https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/taylor-swift-olivia-rodrigo-sza-sarcastic-songwriting-pop-hits-1235547745/ 1
