Yet DWAS Dropped to #20 on pop Its just %100 clear, they're not playing her music. Its simple as that. This song literally #1 everywhere since its released and radio barely touching it. Like wtf you need to play her music? Its #1.
Bad News Posted September 10 Posted September 10 What's wrong with radio? I'm completely out of the loop.
Reginald Posted September 10 Posted September 10 When the runaway success of Smash With A Smash completely overshadows LG7 and JFaD Thank you, Michael, for keeping PopGa alive. I just know she wants LG8 to be a ballads album 1

Kimi Posted September 10 Posted September 10 i don't think they expected such a smash, idk how a new single is gonna fit next to this behemoth. 1

Ricardo1993 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 5 hours ago, Pop Art said: A preemptive warning: this post ended up being far longer than I intended it to be. 😅 I just find this phenomena interesting and it directly correlates with Die With a Smile, so I thought I would share. __________ Die With a Smile's performance on the charts is a true testament to why being global is so advantageous. The song is performing like a normal hit in the Anglosphere (and even underperforming in some other Western countries), yet that's more than made up for with the absolute smashery in other parts of the world, namely SEA. This also showcases how much charting power and importance has shifted over the past decade and why it's important to take note of these changes. Just a few years ago even, countries like the US, Japan, the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Canada, and the like were seen as THE places you needed to do well in to be considered a global success, which made sense because we didn't really have the level of WW numbers we do now and these countries were (and roughly still are) the biggest music markets in the world in terms of monetary value. It's of course still very notable to do well in these countries, but since charts are (mostly) based on units and not revenue and as more and more consumers from different countries enter the streaming market, different countries have stepped up as more influential to a song's success than others as more public data has become available (namely Spotify's detailed country charts and Billboard's Global 200). For example, let's look at the biggest music markets from 2023 and the amount of streams the #1 song on Spotify in each did yesterday. 1. US: 2.1M 2. Japan: 366K 3. UK: 566K 4. Germany: 776K 5. China: N/A 6. France: 500K 7. South Korea: 257K 8. Canada: 284K 9. Brazil: 1.5M 10. Australia: 394K Now let's look at the markets that are the biggest streamers on Spotify (per the #1 in each country). 1. US: 2.1M 2. Indonesia: 2.1M 3. Brazil: 1.5M 4. Mexico: 1.4M 5. Phillipines: 1.3M 6. India: 1.1M 7. Germany: 776K 8. Thailand: 732K 9. Spain: 650K 10. Turkey: 636K Quite a different list, isn't it? Now let's look at these same lists but showing where Die With a Smile is charting and with how many streams in each country yesterday. 1. US: #2 (1.8M) 2. Japan: #89 (71K) 3. UK: #6 (325K) 4. Germany: #33 (152K) 5. China: N/A 6. France: #29 (159K) 7. South Korea: #15 (21K) 8. Canada: #3 (236K) 9. Brazil: #21 (532K) 10. Australia: #3 (286K) 1. US: #2 (1.8M) 2. Indonesia: #2 (1.9M) 3. Brazil: #21 (532K) 4. Mexico: #41 (462K) 5. Phillipines: #2 (1.2M) 6. India: N/A 7. Germany: #33 (152K) 8. Thailand: #9 (172K) 9. Spain: #59 (95K) 10. Turkey: N/A As you can see, the song is performing "just" well when we look at the markets traditionally seen as being integral to global success, but when we look at the markets that are actually most important to streaming units moved in 2024, it's doing wonders comparatively. This explains its exceptional global numbers — since markets like Brazil and Mexico overall pull significant streams nowadays, Die With a Smile even just doing moderately well there puts it in the same category as a song doing exceptionally well in traditionally "bigger" markets like Germany and France. To reiterate, this is really all to say that it's impressive how well the song is doing overall even if its performance in what are normally target countries like the UK, Germany, France, and the like is mid or even arguably at an underperforming level. I've seen people say for years that the power of SEA streams isn't something to underestimate, and now we're seeing that firsthand. Hopefully it can remain stable there and simultaneously grow in these other markets that it has yet to hit with at that same level. I'd also like to add that this time around, the song resonates to all walks of life. This is the first Gaga song in a while where I've seen a lot of POC jump on board especially since Bruno is asian and hispanic.

- JED - Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Would you guys go see Joker 2 if Gaga wasn't in it? Sincere answer: most probably not. Maybe I would give in to group pressure if my usual marvel-obsessed friends insisted on going, but that's it

I still remember Die For You, Flowers and Cruel Summer getting more than 700+ spins in a normal day. This is how you top the pop charts. DWAS barely got 70+ spins yesterday. If this song wont go #1 on Pop radio then none of her future releaes will. We said oh shallow isnt radio friendly thats why that #1 smash peaked at #19 on pop We said oh rain on me is that pop smash but it didnt serve longevity thats why its peaked at #10 on pop We said oh Bloody mary is that viral smash with longevity but it peaked at #10 on pop because it was a old deep cut. So whats the excuse for DWAS?

You can easily get your song to #1 there as long as its worth payola. You cant even say the song is terrible and noone wants to hear it while its currently #1 on spotify and apple music. Real metrics are apple music and spotify.
Canonical Ensembl Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Wait. Pop update is correct, but other formats look like they're not updated yet. Let's give it a few hours, but it will still be another slow day on radio anyway.
Bad News Posted September 10 Posted September 10 If her most easily digestible song in forever, which also happens to be the most streamed song in the country, is performing poorly on radio, then there's zero hope for LG7
