Domination Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Honestly if DWUW was the lead it would have buried Roar, no question.

Why re-record it? I don't think anyone's clear how deep R. Kelly's credit's go on the song. Apparently he's still credited on the solo version as well.
Mikeymoonshine Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 DWUW was so good and it apparently didn't have the feature til pretty late in it's creation which is why the solo version exists. The R Kelly lyrics also ignore the whole point of the song which is about the media trashing Gaga. Maybe it is best for her image to just forget it entirely but it's such a shame.

That's why I feel it would be such a slay if she reclaimed the song as her own and re-released it. Probably is best to just never bring it up again, but it's such a shame because it's such a great song with huge streaming potential. I almost feel like addressing it head-on is better than just ignoring its existence and sweeping it all under the rug.

The era would have ended in a week be serious and even with a solo version, she would have never won that chart battle. Like, ever. She was bound to fail simply because she had turned off way too many people by that time. Applause's problem isn't quality, it's a solid bop that had longevity and aged very well (as proven by it randomly going viral recently). It just that her antics became so tiring that the GP just latched on to whatever other biggest, safe, inoffensive pop star they could find at the time, and that was Katy. If she had chosen a different week to launch the era maybe things would have ended up being a little different, who knows. Also the way she opened the era... But I'm glad things turned out the way they did. It gave her a much-needed perspective and was a giant wake up call to re-adjust her focus and how she wanted to be seen long-term as an artist. Also, ARTPOP may be messy and overwhelming but at least both the album and the era have a legacy and a lot of retrospective love from stans and critics alike precisely because of its overlooked and underappreciated status and her passion at the time. What exactly is PRISM's legacy?

That was the narrative we accepted for awhile, but ARTPOP underperforming did not really effect her future that much Gaga had recorded a majority of Cheek to Cheek with Tony Bennett, before ARTPOP was released, in January 2013. Even if AP was a success, C2C was coming in 2014 regardless. Gaga showed interest in breaking into the film industry before AP was released. She had her first golden globe nomination in 2012 with Elton. She began working on her legacy the day she made Born This Way the lead single for her first album after TFM. Instead of releasing an easy digestible pop song that could ride off of TFM’s success, she released a pro-gay 80s themed anthem. This move would lead to long term success. Like, imagine if Katy released an inspiring political anthem instead of Roar after Teenage Dream. Her career would have been in a much different spot. She traded long term success for short term success

Chromatica Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 TEA and Brooklyn Nights are for sure coming imo, probably anything DJWS and Monson did. Idk about the Zedd tracks tho, would he have to agree? We need Temple and Onion Girl.

True, but honestly I don't think we'd have seen the same passion and fire within her and the desire to pursue jazz and film ventures seriously if it didn't underperform. She was really pissed and was determined to crawl back to the top. But I see what you mean. She's always been an old-school, theatrical performer so those two were in fact very natural routes to take for her in hindsight. I often think about this moment. 18 minutes ago, Vroom Vroom said: She began working on her legacy the day she made Born This Way the lead single for her first album after TFM. The whole stretch between 2009-11 – extensively touring with TMB, BTW (the song) and the album really secured the ride or die part of her fanbase.

Chromatica Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Remember where Gaga said the clock will start ticking at the final artrave? DJWS has a track with that title on the same EP the Ratchet instrumental is on

The rest of the tracks including the Azealia Banks tracks were scrapped If they wanted they could revisit the album and include 'new' tracks but who knows? At this point we've heard a lot of demos but not new songs.

Archetype Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Why do y’all keep giving him attention? Idc if he’s talented, he’s been giving interviews about ARTPOP and Gaga to media outlets for over ten years without her permission.
luckythisway Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Heard BM on the radio for the first time before. 2am on Z100 but we’ll take it And it sounds like a SMASHA. Like godly on the radio. I think it’s going to have some staying power
