Tbf, there's been some talk that the studio wasn't happy with the sequel but figured audiences would eat it up anyway. That alongside the fact that Todd clearly intended for the movie to piss off fans of the first and basically be a huge middle finger to the current film/studio culture, I think they may have had some inkling that the film could underperformed post-filmimg and closer to release.

 

I dont think anyone (aside from probably Todd) expected the film to be so completely DOA at the box office, but I think they sensed something was potentially off.

You're right and that does make sense and maybe it's really wishfull thinking. I just found it pretty strange how, in this day and age, she didn't have the music video done and ready to go with the song. The song being released so close to Halloween was also not a great idea. So what I think could've happened, but is also definitely in the realm of tin-foil hat conspiracy theory is the following: they had decided on a song to serve as the lead and then decided to switch gears and just release something as fanservice. This would explain how the music video was only recorded in october when she had the entire year to do it, and also why it wasn't ready to go (and there where rumours of her recording music videos earlier). 

So maybe they always planned on starting the era as soon as it did but switched singles after DWAS smashing/JFAD bombing.

But this is probably just putting too much credit into her team lmao. I guess if we find out she did record visuals earlier than october my suspicion would be slightly more reasonable.

And this is what happens when she releases quality. The song may not be her best performing yet, but it is already showing much better longevity than Stupid Noise. Let's hope the album follows the same path (I still think Chroma is one of her best albums, but there are so many meh songs in it).

 

I keep dreaming about her releasing Alice, Replay or even 911 as the lead. I bet Chromatica would be performing much better than it is right now.

Also, the album yet to be announced + released makes sure that Disease will still get nice boosts over time.

 

A bit nervous to see what will happen now that it's out of TTH, but it may not effect its numbers that much.

It needed a week to catch up on playlisting and get the word out so it can appear on the playlists of many halloween parties, and still many people don't know that Disease exists.

I still have a bit of hope that  the next single will do well. They usually go all out for the "right before the album" single. Even now with DWAS, they definitely had something planned before (other than JFAD hype).

 

If it is the TW collab, it will for sure do numbers. But I hope she goes solo one more time, even if her solo efforts are usually not the songs with more commercial potential.

I do genuinely wish I could enjoy it authentically but I just never clicked with any of her projects… maybe outside of her cover of The Joker and Bamg Bang - both were moments.
 

I would love Gaga to do something not too dissimilar to Dua's "Live at the Royal Albert" release. I think fans would appreciate something like that.
