No music video during release day

No physicals, lead single merch on release day/week

She didnt post about it until people freaked out about music video.

No performances or any appearances

No interviews about the song.

We all know very well why there was no promotion: they were betting everything on the success of Joker 2, hoping for a Lady Gaga at the peak, everywhere and on everyone's lips. They believed that would be enough for the song to succeed.
Unfortunately, the success didn't materialize for the movie. And, as usual, they had no plan B.
That being said, I think she wanted to avoid doing media interviews or appearing on talk shows because they felt uncomfortable with Joker 2's failure and didn't want to face questions about it.

her team and joker team really did a great job about joker bombing/flopping tbh. the lashings didnt last that long. I know its gonna have a 2nd wave of lashing by awards season but they really did a great job avoiding a huge mess on its release month. it couldve been 10000x worse

8 songs doing over 700k on a regular basis is amazing. Really wish PF could become one of those streaming classics that keeps charting in the Global Top 200. It's so close, but never gets there (outside of a few special holidays).

I agree. Moving on to Disease quickly was a good plan even if they ended up sacrificing the song as a sort of lightning rod. It wouldn't do much better than it's doing now with more promo, save better peaks first week.

I'm still confused if Disease is the lead or the second single :ryan3:

Claiming that they "quickly" released Disease to distract from Joker feels like wishful thinking, imo. First, Gaga herself announced the single before Joker premiered. Since there were no pre-release screenings, they couldn't have known the audience's reaction in advance—they could only rely on their own opinions if they even saw the film before its debut at the Venice Festival.

Second, she began teasing LG7 as early as December of last year. The album was completed by May, and she even shared a snippet during the Chromatica Ball special, which ended with the "LG7 GAGA RETURNS" announcement. So, a single release in October wasn't exactly out of step with what fans were already expecting.

It's time to accept that her team does not match her greatness.

disease wasn't released to distract people from joker. it was always scheduled to be released o joker's release month. unless she and her team anticipated the joker bomb? :deadbanana:

Honestly they were probably expecting Joker to smash & DWAS to not perform as well as it did. And she stuck to her word when announcing an Oct single release a couple weeks after DWAS (without truly knowing how big of a smash it would be long term).

So they thought Disease would ride the Joker hype without being overshadowed by DWAS & it would get a cute Halloween viral moment like Bloody Mary.

& they thought Feb would be good for the album so it can coincide with awards season so her name would be everywhere with both music & film.

I see the vision but yeah, none of it played out like they thought.

It's the second lead single and first buzz track from the album. I thought everyone knew this.

It's the lead. DWAS was a standalone single that is now part of the album. That's it

Here's to hoping that Coachella + Copacabana push it into the Global top 200 which leads to the Spotify algorithm recommending it more (if that's even how it works, idk). It still has insane longevity regardless, getting its highest number of both Spotify streams and Youtube views in 2024 proves that.

this exactly, with the harlequin album - joker - disease they really thought the album + disease would ride joker's massive success/hype

anyways, dwas is smashing harder than any song in the world, we got disease - a song and video that could rival her 2008-2011 creativity peak, and I honestly enjoyed joker too :rip:

hopefully, they have a new plan for the next single + lg7. coachella headlining and copacabanna are already next level gigs. the grammys they're def bagging atleast 1 win and there's a possibility of a performance so dwas will forever stay at the top I fear :deadbanana:

disease doing 800k daily with literally zero promo and gp relevance is crazy tbh. you cant even compare it to stupid love cause stupid love was promoted better

The most ridiculous thing about the Disease release was tying it to Halloween, but giving it literally no runway in advance of the first Halloween weekend and then doing even worse by putting the video basically on the day. At no point was it ever going to catch on with playlisting, etc. with literally hours of time to be promoted with the holiday.

Whatever, luckily DWAS has saved the LG7 era so far by acting as the actual lead now anyway. :rip:

Yeah this 100%. Would love for Gar to reveal if the first time she saw the completed film was in Venice and what her honest reaction was, though she never will. I'm sure Haus was in shambles & scrambling when the pannings were rolling in.

However in hindsight Harlequin turned out to not just be a career highlight effort but also luckily a good Plan B for the (few) late night interview shows that were just Gaga, not JFAD related. She was able to pivot the conversation around being inspired by her character's frenetic freedom to record covers from songs in the movie  the way that Lee would in her head. So brilliant, and a project that only Gaga can deliver.

They just bit the bullet with Disease. It makes no sense why the MV wasn't released at midnight or 12pm EST 10/25 the very latest with a countdown. That's just pure incompetence. I understand the lack of physicals tho cause her DTC sales are the pits I'm sure. Even back in 2020 I think like 3k from SL's 53k was from her website, when bundles were still a thing no less. :deadbanana4:
A 7" vinyl with dope packaging would've been cool but oh well. Hope they deliver with the album variants and QUALITY. I understand the clothes looking like **** but vinyls shouldn't be from an artist if her caliber.

I'll add that I don't put that on Gaga. Sure, she could influence it all, but it's incumbent on her team to know when Halloween playlists are finalized and whatever else. The song never even got added to the Halloween Party playlist on Spotify, and only had a few days on the Apple Music version.
