Kelly’s Xmas discography has now gone over 100m Spotify streams this year. I’ll be home for Christmas should exceed its total for last year tomorrow. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas has had a striking season. Really interesting. Looks like most people stream Christmas music from playlists at this stage as other than the day after thanksgiving we haven’t seen a huge impact for the EP (yet). There has been a minor one. One I’ll keep my eyes on of course.

Love Kelly but I hate the arrangement of some of the covers on WCCA.

 

Last Christmas, IBTLALLC, and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree would benefit from different productions, toned down vocals, or both.

 

Also why is she the only artist with original Christmas songs that are consistently better than covering classics?

Random thought, I wonder if Kelly will perform on this season of the voice, especially considering she didn’t do it last season for reasons. I doubt it due to geography, timing and other commitments but would be cool if she could squeeze in a visit

Jumping the gun, but here are some things I’d love to see in 2024:

 

• a strike while the iron is hot post Xmas season push for a track from chemistry. Whether they opt to push lighthouse properly (still highest daily streamer after mine, FKOH and me) despite no playlisting, or down to you (my standout and the next highest daily streamer on average recently - higher than the playlisted on release tracks). I also think Atlantic should put some coins out, she’s surely more than made them a decent return with over 1 billion streams on Spotify for Atlantic tracks alone - and WCCA will likely do 100m Spotify streams per year from now on. I *think* her deal was about $1m per main album (as that’s what RCA was rumoured to offer). MoL tour was her strongest grossing tour ever, chemistry vegas did about $1m a night and WCCA seems to be an extra album + Kellyoke, she’s clearly made them money 

 

• a hook girl moment. I wouldn’t mind if it was a relatively local artist, but her voice is perfect for a hook girl track a la bebe rexha/Ella Henderson. She even stated how guetta’s remix gave FKOH a new life for her, I’m sure she could get on one that’s fun and keeps her name out there and builds up a listener base for streaming services’ algorithms. Atlantic must also have someone on their roster they could team up with.

 

• do a track with Demi. They’re begging for it and have been for so long. A little collab on an album track would be cute.

 

• Kellyoke vol 2

 

• that’s right on a commercial for the summer (travel company would be great). I think we forget how much the Toyota commercial did for stronger, a cute little commercial will keep it out there.

 

Naturally I doubt any of these will happen but that’s my Xmas wish list 

 

im very excited for what 2024 might hold for us though. I keep thinking back to this sia track she mentioned on one of the live streams, and she seems so happy I’m sure the artistic juices are flowing. We also have some sort of mention of a movie track? (The Nick Jonas thing??)

Underneath the Tree was just certified gold in Italy today. Her first certification ever there.

 

Also, discovered that RCA had her German certifications updated earlier this year:

 

Since U Been Gone, My Life Would Suck Without You, and Heartbeat Song are now gold there. Because of You already was gold there.

 

Underneath the Tree is platinum there. (I think I remember this being discussed but I can't remember if the other German certifications were or not).

Do you know if Germany and Italy automatically certify or do record labels have to pay for them? If so, that’s impressive from RCA.

I have no clue, tbh. I'm so used to RIAA foolishness I forgot that auto-certs is how a lot of international certification bodies work. I was just going off the fact that all of them were updated on the same day earlier this year, but maybe it was just the time that the BVMI (Germany's RIAA) got around to them.

Despite Atlantic not getting the singles release spot on this era (imo), and the overall streams for chemistry lacking *at the moment*, everything has led to a significant increase in listeners. A significant push for a single early new year could make an impact. I’m hoping for down to you (still think it would’ve been a great lead), but will take anything.
 

Having lighthouse as the lead track for this EP is an interesting move that I’ll follow closely. I like the tactic (it deserves more streams anyway). The song has been doing between 8-14k a day recently (dependent on day of the week and the rockerfeller/thanksgiving impacts). 
 

Merry Christmas Baby has been doing better this season than previous - is fighting Glow to be the next one to pass its total from last year (IBHFC passed its total 2 days ago), but it had previously been doing about the same as MCTTOIUTK whereas this year it has already done 200k more, so I’m really pleased to see it get more focus as well. 

 

The Christmastry EP is probably getting about 1.5k-2k extra streams on Spotify for each song per day than they otherwise would have. Let’s see if this one has an impact too. The tracking day after thanksgiving was a comparatively really strong day for Christmastry (I guess maybe because the stream counter were further delayed than normal).

Also, I wonder if we’ll get another one of these EPs closer to Xmas itself, maybe one with SCYHM/Christmas Eve/UTM

 

Interesting differences to note between the two EPs:

 

• This one’s track listing is 5 tracks v 6 (curious especially as Kelly said in an interview she likes albums to be even numbers 😂 even though her discography doesn’t match that, and EPs are often 6 tracks)

 

• This EP hasn’t mixed the two albums one-two, one-two etc, like the other one.
 

Based on the Chemistry tracks included in this one, Goodbye could’ve been a cute little addition at the end. 
 

final note, the christmastry EP probably got a fair amount of thanksgiving plays due to people searching “Kelly Clarkson Christmas”, so I’m surprised they didn’t play on the SEO with the title, something with tree in it would’ve been smart.

As an FYI, to see if these EPs do have an impact on the chemistry songs included, the album (deluxe) is currently tracking to end the year on 87m Spotify streams. I would love it to reach 100m for year end but I doubt that will happen now. If we get to 90m then we can say they had some impact if note.

Similarly to how team KC removed the singles for m/m, fkoh, rfc and lighthouse from Spotify - while keeping the singles that had “collabs” on them (IHL, mine remix, FKOH remix), roses has been hidden today. They’re all still on the service but hidden from profile. Given they did this, I’m surprised they kept the mine live track on there.

 

I also wonder if this means that roses might be on another one of these EPs next week.
