Considering WCCA didn't debut on the Top 100 after its debut week and only managed to peak at 22 during the height of the Holiday rush (for note, WIR debuted at #3), I think everyone should have modest expectations with charts. No reason to get upset about Billboard numbers due to unrealistic expectations. The album is good which is all that matters.

I believe WCCA debuted at #63 on BB 200 albums chart. For a Christmas album released in October, that was pretty good! WIR was #3, but that was so long ago and right after the success of Stronger.

WCCA also did not have vinyls and the autographed tumbler package from her store was delayed. Amazon also had a delay.

Chemistry will be interesting. She has a ton of vinyls and autographed copies. The Spotify vinyls sold out quickly and the autographed CDs from her store sold out. Seems like she did more though, after being told on one of her live streams they had sold out. iTunes isn’t what it used to be, but it’s been holding on to that #2 spot pre order. It was #1 for a while too.

I won’t even guess a number for debut week because it’s up in the air lol. This week’s #10 spot did around 37,000 copies in total, so we’ll see!

Edit: yep, WCCA debuted at #63.

Good to know about WCCA. I went and tried looking at the week it debuted on Billboard and couldn’t find it so I assumed it just didn’t debut. I’m still a bit skeptical of Chemistry having a strong debut though. I’d personally rather just have low expectations and be surprised in a positive way than the opposite. But it’ll be neat to see what happens.

Yea, I’m not making any guesses, but I hope she gets a nice debut number. If not, I’m sure the album will be great. She has a nice promo week with the Today Show, Howard Stern, Zane Low, Conan O Brien, and Andy Cohen. Also has podcasts and the New York CD signing. Hope all that helps give the album a nice push though!

Miss Indepodcast just put out their episode this week and it is an interview with Kelly!!! I am so happy for them, it was a fun interview. She talks a bit about what success with this albums means for her. Loved her answer. :-)

For those of you that don’t want to listen to the podcast, here’s a summary of what Kelly said success is:

Everything’s a cherry on top. Succes for me is it coming out & whoever might be feeling what I was feeling. Isolated, alone & just really not knowing if you’re gonna make it or crawl out. That is succes for me. The artist in me is more like man, that’s why I got into it. That’s why I love music, it’s connecting through that

And she explained how the writers strike completely changed their ability to do promo. She made it sound like it was a a very significant impact on the rollout plan.

So the supposed lighthouse release has been scrapped huh?

For those who have heard it: how would you compare the title track to her others?? Like Mol and Pxp (original album version) are so well realised- the production value, the replay value, the message, everything is top tier about those songs. Breakaway is nostalgic and easy to play again and again, stronger is overrated but a gem of song. Thankful, I’ve always liked. All I ever wanted is probably the one titular track I completely forget about, but is a great song.

Title tracks:

1. Meaning of Life

2. Piece by Piece (Original version, I don’t acknowledge the others :coffee2:)

3. Breakaway

4. Stronger

5. Thankful

6. All I ever wanted

Chemistry?????

Looks like. It’s not out in my country and it’s already Wednesday. I’ve had all the other tracks drop on time, so (thankfully) I guess they don’t see the point with guest 2 days left.

Unless they announce it in the USA and it then gets released globally all at the same time (I’ve seen that in past but can’t remember who). But I think you’re probably right

It's my favorite title track, it's very different from any of these though. If you prefer PBP original over the piano version it may not be your vibe (not that it sounds similar but just that the production is more minimal and subdued). But I think it creates a beautiful atmosphere, it could have been a great alternative as the album opener (although I totally get why they went with Skip This Part).

Interesting. Kelly's tweet says stay tuned for a surprise tomorrow though. Maybe they will just release the Belasco video for this one. I feel bad that it seems like Kelly and her team had to do a ton of last minute scrambling on promo due to the writers strike.

She really has some of the best title tracks. I like your list, and I'd put chemistry right under MoL.

Honestly should've been a 80/100. Not much direct criticism in the article. They pointed out some flaws in MOL but gave it a 70/100 as well.

I think 70 is a fair score for these album.

I am confused by that rating considering they were really positive overall in the review. Could be worse though! I still can’t stop listening to the album, excited to put it in full rotation later this week so my listens count for streams!

It’s a bit paradoxical to in one breath say hits aren’t happening because the GP are not checking for Kelly regardless and then argue what the GP will or will not care for from Kelly, no? Like, which is it? Do they care at all or do they only care for certain things from her? The generic strategies for Kelly that both RCA and Atlantic thought would make for hits failed with both the PBP era and the MOL era. Obviously the “tried and true” strategy means next to nothing.

You've put words in my mouth there, I never said hits aren't happening because the GP aren't checking for her.

Why aren't hits happening? Well, who knows, it's a combination of things. Being a legacy artist, not capitalising on the hype she had previously, the songs not clicking, ageism, politics, promo, there's a lot that goes into it.

What I said was the GP aren't checking for a 2nd single, which is true. She has interest in the album which is great and hopefully translates into decent numbers.

But in terms of a single, nothing's clicked so far - if you went out onto the street and asked a random if they're excited for the next Kelly Clarkson single what are they gonna say? It needs to be spoonfed to them, that's the whole point of the GP - it's the people outside of the fandom.

I would love Kelly to go for a different route, like the double release with Me/Mine - it's more interesting and hopefully they continue exploring new things.

But people in here are asking for a hit and as I've said, if you want a hit then you need to spoonfeed something to the GP and you have to appeal to as many people as possible, that's the point of a hit. If the GP have clicked with FKOH and it's the most generic/"easiest" song to push then that's the "easiest" way to get a hit.

Personally I don't care for hits regardless as she's passed that point, it would be great sure, but i'm just being realistic in my opinions here.

I’m guessing she’s not performing this week. Jessi is in Europe

I somehow have this feeling they've already recorded some performances beforehand to put out next week.

Seems like this was live premiered? Was this the "surprise"? I don't get why they don't just announce some of these things outright lol.

Sounds even better live. The vocal parts are confusing the hell out of me though... at 3:58 is Jessi taking over the lead? She sounds just like Kelly.
