Instead of hit singles or sales number this album deserves/needs a great mtc score and more critics praise to get people‘s attention. WCCA only got 2 reviews which weren't even enough to get a mtc score. And even MOL only got 8. All her projects from Atlantic are CRIMINALLY IGNORED by the industry. Yep. I'm beginnig to stop caring. I've told numbers doesn't matter to me because I'm more on the indie sides of things. But even indie people do interviews, the albums get reviewd, there's pieces on the albums written for the Rolling Stones or other magazines. It helps with the understanding of the work. But at this point it just feels like she's crapping on the work other people put on the record. I'll wait until the album drops to see if this opinion still stands, but I'm not on Mrs. Clarkson side for this one. She's doing dirty, for sure.
Ab1818 Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Kelly made the album mostly for herself. The other people that worked on the album got paid and I’m sure they’re happy to be on her album. She isn’t “crapping” on anyone’s work. She didn’t have to release anything. Kelly is not the 20 something year old who needs to go on everything to promote will do whatever fees right. There are things coming. It’ll be fine. FKOH is supposedly out in 10 days, The Voice performance in 2-ish weeks, and the pre filmed Belasco showS.

But at least show some enthusiasm, if your asking your fans to invest their hard earned money into this project. I’ve followed her for some 18 years, and this is the first lead up to an era, she seems too distracted- too many things going on. She refused to tour this album because she’s too busy- gurl you had the whole summer to plan out. Just my observation- don’t like it? Don’t care. There’s others that feel the same You can feel like she's not giving her effort for the promotion, but I don't understand your comment about her asking fans for their hard earned money and she's not following through. If you're using your hard earned money to buy the album, then you got the album. That's what your money paid for, not the promo, the interviews, the concerts, etc.

The “project” doesn’t just mean the album, but everything that encompasses it. Like any fan, you INVEST your money into the whole era, which INCLUDES everything mentioned above. When she promotes she is also promoting the residency (as she should) which named after the thing she is promoting (Chemistry). She’s/the vendors are selling merch, specifically for chemistry. Fans are buying flights and booking accommodation, for the album she PROMOTING. Her team is asking us to invest in the project. And they be doing the bare minimum. Whatever- she’s content being a daytime host. I hope I’m proven wrong and she does a promo blitz closer to the album release Again, everything you mentioned fans pay for they get the product they paid for. Pay for the album? Get the album. Pay for the vegas show? Get the vegas show. Buy the merch? Get the merch. What are they being cheated out of exactly? You can say the time you're investing in isn't getting what you want, which is numbers and acclaim for the project from what I can gather. In that case, stop investing your time. But the money you spent/will spend, you're getting what you paid for.
jpsketch Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Y'all are ******* bananas. She released two amazing songs. She's releasing another amazing song next week. And a top-tier album next month. Y'all mad that a 41-year-old legacy act isn't plastered on every tv show? Exactly what would that do anyway? We saw with MoL that it doesn't move the needle.
KellBell Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I'll add that I spent money going to the Belasco show and it hasn't gotten much attention in the media, not many pieces, not much hype at all in the GP. But the money I spent was worth it cause she gave me a SHOW, which is what I paid for.
Irvine Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 i'd love her to promote this more but they way she talked about everything it would probably be too difficult for her to sing those songs over and over again she knows that the fans want new music and she'll give us just that and because it's more personal than ever before, she keeps a little distance maybe crossing fingers we'll get some more promotional work from her as the album gets released

rmmas Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 As a fan I just want the music, beautifully designed merch and that’s all. So I’m really satisfied with what we got so far.

We've gotten good art from the album so far, the vinyls look good, the merch has looked good. I guess my expectations for the promo part of this is lower than other people's because I haven't been bothered by the rollout so far.

All this disappointment in how she's not doing promo or not being engaged is just weird to me. But it seems to impact other peoples' enjoyment. I'm just pointing that out.

But I’m also very VERY aware her days as a leading pop star are well and truly over. I simply want promo because she can go more in depth about the process of making it and how the last few years have impacted the music. That’s the promo I want (she doesn’t owe me anything lol). Not based on sales. The Ange podcast was excellent- I’d like one solely based around the album and songs. 14 minutes ago, Black Berry said: @kelli101 Kelly and TSwift have some of the worst most holier than thou fans, sis don't take anything personally and KEEP having your opinions. BravoTangoWhiskey Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 what is going on it’s like we’re on the express train (layered reference ) I’ll throw my two cents in then… and let us remember we all have different ideas and expectations based on our own lives etc etc etc I'm still really excited by the music coming out and hope that the project gets some level of attention that we can be proud of - and confident that people have actually heard her music… for example, MoL, I’m proud that it went gold and LSS went platinum, everyone I know heard it but it had little replay value and the lead single wasn’t it for my local market or my friends. Also, the follow up singles felt a bit experimental with Atlantic trying to figure out what to do with her, so judgement withheld a they tried some stuff (example of what I mean: positives, but some areas that should have been focused on to improve) As a forewarning, like I’ve said before, I enjoy looking at numbers and analysing them, but I’m not chart obsessed and very much aware that Kelly is unlikely to see numbers she saw previously. That said, I also know she has a viral moment within her, could surprise out of nowhere and also the project could strike a goldmine with how a song takes off. Also, despite not being chart obsessed, I must say, I am becoming certification minded though, as for me, that’s a better indicator of a project’s reach and success. That said, Kelly is horrendously under certified in countries that don’t do it automatically (glares at the USA) - but that’s for another post..: Back to the chemistry project: The current numbers for mine/me are wildly underwhelming for even the lowest expectations I could have had. It did not chart anywhere of note and won’t. An Avril throwaway collab overtook mine’s Spotify streams in around 10 days and it looks like a Rita Ora rehash will do about the same (I say that as fans of both those artists, but it does not bode amazingly well for the song’s trajectory unless something changes). I hope it is considered by Atlantic as buzz single (seems like Kesha is doing the same so it could be the new industry move for artists of that generation) re promo, I understand some of the frustrations. I hope they have longer term plans and are thinking of pivoting if they were relying on the talk show. In terms of the online promo, I originally was intrigued by the promotion tactic. I liked how they teased it on socials and Spotify, it seemed like they’d thought through things… that was until they tried to use *only* KC stans (and the cringey ones us more lighthearted fans get embarrassed by in our group chat, but I digress). These people were people who would have searched out the music in any case… and while they celebrated on socials, they hardly had any reach. So what started off as a nice idea and had potential, was m naively executed and targeting the stan demographic (unless we consider this project to be solely a project for the fans - which I don’t think it will be based on how much Atlantic will have had in the game - this album has been a long time coming after an underperforming previous main project MoL). Part of me wants to hope that the intention was to release mine/me as a “for the fans” start and to get a divorce song out before going a bit harder for the natural lead of FKOH which is happier (based on what those of you who’ve heard it say). For me, that would make sense based on what we’ve seen so far. The label clearly believes in the quality of this music (see Julie’s comments), so I doubt they want it to underperform at all. Kelly clearly cares about it given the effort in the aesthetics of the covers (single and album) and her writing on the project. But she could be more articulate in garnering public interest in the music. I think the writers strike probably did affect some of their plans, but it’s not as if TV changes too much about her target audience. I imagine Atlantic would think her audience would likely consume the project one way or another sooner or later, so could be eyeing the shows return for a push for promo for another single and a longer era. Last night I saw a simple tweet from P!nk quoting someone who didn’t like her music. It went somewhat viral… I don’t think doing something like that is too hard, even if it’s not Kelly live tweeting it, it’s not hard to think of ways someone with her following could do to garner interest in her new project through some funny engagements with her socials. Like hey, just get Kelly to read out mean tweets style video and see (thinking of that pink tweet). I’ll stop rambling on, won’t take any responses to heart, and will continue to enjoy the music and indulge myself with following the numbers. But I’m excited y’all for what’s to come soon!!!

Not promoting/performing because it doesn’t move the needle is exactly the problem with the industry nowadays. Dropping music & then dipping is exhausting as a fan. Kelly’s not the only one. I’m not trashing Me or Mine but they’re, nice. Definitely not the kinds of songs to keep anyone fed until the album two months later. One performance (on her own show), no music videos, etc.. a very boring era so far. What’s the point in even dropping an album if you’re not gonna give it life.. I don’t think anyone is doing the most.

MOL was never going to move anything tho especially with LSS as the lead. it's a cute album that showcases her vocal but it's honestly not that great. the hooks are lackin & lyrics aren't all there either. i'm happy she's still releasing music and performing live. i don't really care for promo. my only wish is that this album is amazing and has more replay value than MOL. I had about 3/4 songs in high rotation for about a year before i moved on. so far she's 1/2, personally. i hope favorite kind of high is more my taste so we can be 2/3.
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted May 9, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 9, 2023 Not to dog pile, but I am only slightly disappointed that there aren't any interviews about the music. There was that one podcast, but I would appreciate more interviews about the making of the album, what it was like to navigate making an album about divorce while being mindful of her kids, etc. We haven't had a good blitz of interviews since 2017 and MOL. I miss Kelly's interviews. I find her talk show personality a bit meh cause she's hosting and it doesn't feel like "her" as much. It got so bad that I thought I just grew out of her and just didn't care for her personality anymore. But, then I watched that recent hour-long podcast interview with her and I loved every minute of it. Kelly shines when she's openly talking about herself. You see her humility and strength of character there more than you do when she's acting as a talk show host. So, yeah, I'd like more interviews. Hopefully there are more once the album is dropped. Maybe the album is being held for the summer for after the end of the current TKCS season and so she can do more with promo/interviews once its out and the dual single release was just to hold over fans (especially because skepticism about there actually being an album was common lol).
Julianna Calm Down Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I love my girls KC and always will. Her voice is out of this world, her personality is unique and she is funny as hell. Not to mention her legacy, which has become solidified in recent years. She is respected and liked by her peers and many young artists/vocalists are inspired by her. But this roll out is not it. Mine and Me are wildly underwhelming. The silence after the release is just strange, and comes off like the new music is nothing to invest in, discuss or promote. I don’t care if you’re twice the age of Rod Stewart. I don’t care if you’ve had a career larger than Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley and the Beatles combined. If you work on a project, and decide to share it with the work, you obviously want it to be heard and appreciated by people and for it to be successful. My enthusiasm for this era and album have been somewhat diminished by the two lacklustre single choices and the absolute silence since their release. I don’t connect with Mine at all sonically. Me sounds like something she has already done three times over and much better on MOL. She should have taken control for this era fully and done it differently. She should have released a more straightforward divorce song and dropped the album at the same time. Especially since she argues the importance of hearing the new album from start to finish because it describes a whole relationship. I love her but I’m disappointed in the choices and the subsequent development. And this comes from someone who loves her, defends her, understands her age and the stage at which she is at in her career as well as how personal this project is to her and that she is busy, and a mother with priorities that have shifted dramatically in the last 10 years or so.
