I sometimes wonder how much bigger Hilary would be if she kept releasing albums after dignity and didn’t take a break

I think she would have had success but at the same time I feel like she eventually would have crack and had public breakdown like most child stars do

which might have tarnished or destroyed her brand

There's a lot that should've and should've not happened with her and her career. Firstly, the sophomore as much as I like it, was too serious coming after Metamorphosis and a big portion of it aged badly and even for it's time, a bunch of them were objectively badly written songs and made no sense for her then demographic. Then of course the break post Dignity and the stupid roles she kept accepting that absolutely didn't help. What the **** was she thinking with that sharon tate movie? Younger and Breathe In definitely helped patch things up and basically saved her from complete irrelevancy but even then, she ****** things up with Chasing The Sun, the Tinder sponsored video for Sparks etc. It's a mix of bad management, lacking business savvy instincts and laziness.

Her management wasn't it tbh there are so much awful choice around her career.

She's still relevant because she is a likeble person and nostalgia

Her second album lowkey bombing has always been so interesting to me, considering how famous and popular she was during 2003 - 2006. I hated the album for so long but then randomly got into it a few years back and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s just funny that they tried to make her go the Ashlee/Lindsay/Avril route when it doesn’t suit her voice whatsoever. Mr. James Dean is just :rip:

The whole thing was just stupid thinking on their part. Too rushed, not a single-worthy album track in sight, it lacked what made Metamorphosis successful, took itself way too seriously as an album for her listeners back then, hell, she could barely sing half of it let's be real.  I get that she was trying to prove herself as an artist or whatever but she clearly lacked critical thinking. An album full of Wake Ups, Beat Of My Heart, So Yesterday, Why Not should've been the plan. Fast paced, fun, silly flirty, a little pop rock mixed with dance and maybe throw in some of the better serious Hilary Duff tracks in (Underneath This Smile, Who's That Girl, The Getaway, Hideaway) to mix it up and show a different side. That album did way more damage to her overall career than you'd think, Dignity could've been more successful for instance.

I NEVER thought about this, but this is actually a VERY true statement. I think that album was clearly inspired by her relationship with Joel and it's a very messy and all over the place album, but I agree with you, she should have made a teen dance pop/rock album. Also, The Getaway not being a single will always be one of the biggest blunders of her music career, even if it would have bombed, it would have been nice to see it released as a single.

Also, on the film side of things, I wish she would have gone straight into doing independent films after The Perfect Man came out, I feel like that's the film to completely end her teen movie era, Material Girls was a waste of time mess, and the script even then was very problematic.

Definitely, if anything, it worked as a darker and a more mature subsequent to Come Clean, both confessional pop rock tracks with a shouty chorus.

Obviously they thought Fly would do better cause of Raise Your Voice and I did love Fly a lot when I was a teen but

a) The Getaway was catchier and radio would've played it more b) Fly never worked for her vocal abilities.

Never get the love for The Getaway, it's nice but not the standout I always read on here. Fly is much better, both music and lyrics are on top.

There are also better songs on HD than The Getaway (Shine, Dangerous To Know or Underneath This Smile - that should've been the title of the album).

I never thought about HD being a wrong choice in her career but I can see it and it is an interesting point of view.

Seeing Heidi revive her music career after all these years makes me believe the same will happen for Hilary one day

She snapped in 2007 with Dignity. That's her musical peak and tbh many have peaked worse.

I’m hoping urban gives us another Hilary vinyl this year they have pretty much given us one almost every year since 2019

2019 metamorphosis

2020 Lizzie Santa clause lane

2021 Santa clause lane repress

2022 most wanted Hilary duff dignity

2023 breathe in breathe out

2024 the best off????????????

or they might do a Cinderella story to go with the 20th anniversary of the movie since it’s so popular

With ashlee Simpson and Heidi making musical comebacks this year

I think it’s very possible that music might be the next step for Hilary in 25

although she said she wants to do a movie

I feel like she should release a remastered What Dreams Are Made Of for shits and giggles.

Like at least make some type of coin now that HIMYF is over. (I still think HIMYF ended because she got prego but that’s a discussion for another day)

I want new music for sure but no remaster, no remix. We have enough of those, we desperately need new material lol.
