If you could add a album in a year she didn’t release which year would it be?

You can’t change years where she did release just add one?

I dunno if I would've released a studio album between her debut and Stripped because I would be afraid there would be no Stripped if it wasn't for her being so constrained in her first record. Also, I think it was a badass move for her to do what she did with Stripped in her second album in.

In my opinion, I think we could've milked CA a bit more after COOB. I feel like "So Emotional" could've been a great fifth single released in the fall of 2000 (then we would've finally gotten that goddamn diamond album perhaps?)

I wouldn't have released another album in 2004 either. The Stripped Era lasted until early 2004 (I think the Grammys was the perfect farewell to the Era). She needed a break to get inspired and come up with Back to Basics. Plus, we also got Car Wash and Tilt Ya Head Back that year so it wasn't like she didn't do anything all year long.

I would've released Bionic in 2008 instead - if she hadn't gotten pregnant by then. There would be no greatest hits and we would've avoided all the Pollow da Don and Ester Jean tracks and kept all the original Bionic collaborators.

She also should've released an album in 2014/15, agreed. A more HAC driven album a la Say Something and We Remain. This could've increased her likability among the HAC fans just like P!nk and Kelly Clarkson did at that time. I mean, if pop perfection Your Body didn't take off, I dunno what else would if she wanted to stick to pop music.

I agree with this. It was very important that Stripped was her second album.

Agreed. She should have milked this more & her Spanish album. Falsas Esperanza’s & So Emotional deserved especially if she had no plans on releasing anytime soon.

This is where i start to disagree. Stripped was two years old. She took a massive break between debut & Stripped. It was a really bad move not to keep the momentum going with the respect she gain from Stripped. She canceled the tour she should have gotten back in the studio for a quick follow up even though she had the Grammys coming up. She could have had songs sent to her during the Stripped era.

I also think it was a bad move not releasing another Spanish album in the middle of the Stripped era. It would’ve easily sold millions with bare minimum effort just base off her name. She had Stripped songs ready to go in Spanish so unsure why the ball was dropped.

It might of seem like a lot with a second album 2002, Second Spanish album 2003 & third album 2004 but she was young. Artist have done it before milking their prime. Again Spanish era would have had minimum promotion.

I'm just saying that it made sense, in the grand scheme of things, that she took a break between Stripped and Back to Basics because B2B reflected her life post-Stripped. She got married in the meantime, so on and so forth. When we listen to her discography in chronological order it made sense that Stripped approached her troubled childhood, her beginning to explore her sexuality as a young woman, her first love, her relationship with people who let her down, her then-found new love. And then you get Back to Basics which comes as a breath of fresh air when you look back at everything she went through with Stripped, she finally found happiness in her marriage.

But then again, the GP doesn't care anyway. :rip:

Also, if I was Summer and Matt I would be FUMING at miss Xtine. Like, Jordan got an entire album dedicated to him and Matt got one song??? :rip:

Max also got a whole album and a song dedicated to him and Summer got nothing? :deadbanana2:

I remember way before Liberation came out there were rumors of a track called Summer Rain. I wonder if that was ever legitimate.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I think the problem Christina has is she takes things/herself way too seriously which is honorable but also her downfall. Sometimes your albums don’t need to be this dramatic theme with hidden messages.

Just record great pop music & release it girl :deadbanana2:. She found her lane, sound & fan base with Stripped to not follow up with a similar sound with a twist was a mistake. Waiting four years then returning with something that sounds nothing like Stripped was the beginning of the end.

I love this about her, tbh. I think this is what really sets her apart from 99% of the other popstars. She had the ambition to try new stuff out, remember that even Beyonce highlighted this back in the day.

I think X kinda got lost in the way when they decided to make Bionic sound more commercially appealing. And then Lotus followed up. It was clear that they were prioritizing a radio hit rather than trying something new. Thank God for Liberation for being something a ted more authentic.

But yeah, commercially wise her long breaks sort of killed her. A whole new wave of popstars emerged in between Back to Basics and Bionic and she sort of missed her spot. Again, she's not in competition with anyone so we're happy if she can:

1) deliver GOOD music;

2) commit to touring.

I love this about her as well but it shouldn’t take four to six years to do this.

Sadly. Remember also during this time the United States was going through a recession. People just wanted fun music! & a new generation of kids were teens. All the heavy hitters released in 2008 while Xtina & Avril didn’t both felt the consequences because of it. It was such a crucial year to release.

Releasing a full studio album & a soundtrack to a film in the same year is one of the dumbest management mistakes ever. RCA should be burn to the ground.

I feel like in their heads Bionic would do fairly well, then Burlesque would come along right after the Bionic Tour and she would have to do some promo, etc. It was meant to be a busy year for her. :doc:

STOP really? :gaycat7: I recently relistened to the 4 new tracks from Greatest Hits album and I loved Dynamite so much. Tbh I always thought about changing Bionic's tracklist a little bit and adding Keeps Gettin' Better and Dynamite to it and removing the ballads. I don't dislike them but I feel like that would make the album more cohesive, cause Keeps Gettin' Better and Dynamite both have that futuristic sound.

I agree about Genie 2.0 tho, well kind of, I don't know if it's better than the original but it's just AMAZING, the way she reworked that song and gave it a completely different vibe :alexz:

I've been listening to Xtina so much these days, her discography is so versatile and interesting, I love it so much :jonny5:

True

2008 is the biggest missed oportunity. KGB is kinda bland but still sounded fresh in 2008.

2014/2015 was the perfect time for a power ballads album. Adele, Sam Smith and Emeli Sandi were smashing hard.

I still wonder why she don't release a duet with Troye Sivan, Sam Smith, Ariana, etc they love her and I'm sure they would kill for a duet with queen.

By the way, dunno if you girlies have been watching Glamorous with Kim Cattrall on Netflix. Legend is HEAVILY featured on it, the director must be a fighter. Ain't No Other Man and Not Myself Tonight are part of the soundtrack and she's also name dropped in one of the episodes.

The NMT scene though... love it.

Can we get a sequel to Bionic?

Yup, it's on the Target Deluxe edition of Sia's This Is Acting album (2016) which was made up of rejected songs from other artists:

This would be the Xtina track intended for her daughter, Summer Rain.

I agree. Timing is SO important in the music industry (which is why Jessica, Mandy, and O-Town were squeezed out by Britney, Christina, BSB, and 'NSYNC).

Xtina missed two crucial release points to release within the music industry:

2008: Bionic should've been released instead of KGB. This was an important year as the industry was transitioning into the digital era and a new wave of pop stars was emerging. Her name and fanbase was still powerful enough to debut "Keeps Gettin' Better" within the Top 10, but by mid-2010 it was too late. Also, 2009 was a huge year in pop culture and Xtina was virtually absent for all of it due to filming Burlesque and re-recording Bionic.

2014/2015: After the success of "Say Something" and death of Gaga/Kesha type pop music, the GP wanted ballads and AC-type music (e.g. Adele). Lotus was released in a year where dance music was still thriving. The success of "Just A Fool" (despite the sabotage) should've made her or RCA get to penning a ballads album immediately. Even Ed Sheeran said he wanted to collaborate with her on The Voice back then and he was owning these years with his music. Imagine a duet?

I agree with every word here :clap3:

I would like to expand on this!

Spanish music: I’m at a lost of words on why RCA didn’t ask her to follow up MI Reflejo. It was a massive success in the Latin market. It completely opened a new audience for her brand. She completely ignore this audience yet still in Latin countries supported her English projects with most of her sales coming from them. There wasn’t really anyone dominating in English and Spanish at the time it’s the way she could have easily been first of her kind. 2003/2004 was a perfect time to follow up! She was mentioning during that time she was recording the follow up yet nothing came.

& For the life of me why didn’t she try to learn Spanish. There is an interview of her in Mexico promoting Stripped where her ear piece fail & she didn’t have a translator. It was really embarrassing. Spanish is probably one of the easiest languages to learn especially with the resources she has.

Yeah, there definitely should've been a Spanish version of Stripped in 2003 since Mi Reflejo is basically a Spanish version of her debut. I guess they didn't want to cannibalize the sales of Stripped with another release. The Christmas album was also misplaced but now in the streaming era, it boosts her streaming numbers greatly so... :michael: But if she had released another teen pop album in 2000 instead, it would've debuted with one million in sales. Big pop acts sold albums like crazy back then.

I also don't understand why she didn't tour Latin America for Stripped when it has Latin songs ("Primer Amor Interlude"/"Infatuation") and she was performing songs from Mi Reflejo... so many questions when it comes to stanning Xtina. Love her forever though. :dies:

Spoiler

And I agree with the learn Spanish comment. She was fluent in Spanish as a child. Even with them leaving her abusive father at a young age, her mother speaks Spanish fluently too so I don't understand why her mother didn't teach her? I cringed when she mispronounced "No Es Que Te Extrañe" in one of her Billboard interviews last year. :priceless:
