I’ve been feeling like this since week two of BMS…but after a few passive aggressive subliminal posts in base I stopped posting here altogether.

Bey, historically, changes the lead single all the time and it’s usually one of the last songs recorded that they end up going with. The signs of this being the case with BMS have been there from the beginning. Starting with them not having a artwork ready at release…

I don’t know, could’ve missed that…I was mostly basing it on Freedia’s interviews the day of or the day after the song was released. She said she got the call about the sample about a little while ago and then she met Bey’s team and Bey herself in LA about a week ago.

She posted on her IG on June 16 about being in LA and also how she just found out Beyonce has a new album coming. It’s not concrete but it definitely seems like this was when they met and played her the final version of BMS

Really interesting observations!

Much as I take up for Team Bey and there being "strategy, strategy, strategy" behind it all, your points do make me think...what if it really was a last min pick as single?

I also remember those Big Freedia interviews and the timeline was interesting af when put into context.

It seems like there wasn't a huge gap between Freedia finding out Bey sampled her song, flying out to hear BMS, and it coming out as "the" single.

Why that puzzled me mainly was things like the vinyl (which would have had to be finalized a long time ago), as well as the slim-to-none chance that Freedia didn't approve it. That would have meant Bey would have gone to to print with an album vinyl that included a song she couldn't legally drop? Slim to none chance Freedia wouldn't jump to work with Bey again, but it's definitely food for thought when it comes to the "what ifs".

Then there's the timeline of the music video too.

Everyone was up in arms about seeing Freedia shooting the other day, but forget or don't know that she mentioned in an interview the week BMS came out that she was on set with Bey. She mentioned not knowing what it was for (specifically) and described "a huge production" and (if my memory serves me correctly) mentioned "a wall of handbags".

Who knows.

What I know for sure is that I'm going to get life everlasting reading those behind the scenes articles her team tend to seed post release of a project that lift the lid on the lead up and provide so many nuggets of info and insights. They did it with Homecoming, TG, BIK. Even ST.

I’m bored with this era already. Just give me the music and call it a day like previous era. Should have known better to not expect any roll out from this woman

It’s not going to have that radio audience. It would need 2 million + updates everyday from now

I agree it was bold, but I see radio boosting the airplay on album week (hence my prediction). It will actually need to average exactly 2M. Even at 85M it will likely go #1.

It is odd that Frieda didn’t fly to LA and hear BMS for the 1st time only a few weeks before its release (if that’s really how the series of events went). I don’t know much about the logistics of vinyl pressing, but that’s definitely cutting it close.

It’s shipping upon release so it was pressed some time ago. The music has been done.

She probably cleared samples prior, but didn't include as to what it was

Maybe Big Freedia was recently filming for the remix video :giraffe:

Here’s the article and it’s behind a paywall but i just hacked and read it.

https://www.nola.com/entertainment_life/keith_spera/article_ddb4d79c-f1dc-11ec-9dd9-8776c7118cb0.html

Freedia’s team heard and approved of the song in late May. That’s 3 weeks before the announcement and release. That’s not last minute. That’s plenty of time to shot a video and make other arrangements.

Parkwood flew to NYC to give Freedia’s manager a listen. Then the manager contacted Freedia (who was booked and busy) and asked her to run to Parkwood LA headquarters to listen to the song.
They had no idea it was going to be the lead until it was announced. But they knew it was track #6 on the album (this gives me hope that the album has been very well thought out, not that I doubted it but we now have confirmation)

The only shocking thing in the article is that they didn’t negotiate Freedia’s cut until the day the song dropped. Im sure the deal was just your regular deal but it’s still wild.

so yeah the silence since BMS dropped is still unjustified. They had time but she probably went to the Dominican Republic for a vacation :toofunny2:

The only vinyl available is the on her website and I doubt that’s doing big numbers. Getting that limited vinyl pressed wont take much time.

But yeah the music has been done. Typically if you’re doing physical, you need to turn the masters 6 weeks in advance which matches the timeline

Matches the timeline exactly…

I don’t know about going no1 on the hot 100. She would need to get at least 20 mil streams for that week and at least 75 mil radio audience. It has a greater chance in the UK though.

Just because it was done in May doesn’t mean BMS was supposed to be the first single. She had 16 options to choose from.

There has to be some kind of promo coming. She usually does trailers or something….

Them not knowing which song to make the lead until the very last day would be worrisome and just opens another can of worms. There’s no need to defend every single decision they make.

Now lets just pray the video drops on July 29

Was freedia at least flown around private

Them not knowing which song to choose for lead makes me think that they had loads of options :coffee2:

I definitely don’t see that as a bad thing.

I suspect BMS was the safest choice, as great as it is. I think the overall album is going to be extremely experimental :chick1:

I read that as Freedia didn’t know it was the lead until it was released, not Bey. They literally only give info out on a need to know basis, it prevents leaks.

Seriously what was the strategic genius behind hiding the formation video and not releasing it on iTunes or streaming? Everything they do isn’t the right decision and it doesn’t seem like they have learned. The art will always speak for itself, just let the music and rollout do what it’s supposed to do by releasing it the right way.

I don’t see her dropping the video that close to the album…it will eclipse the event.

Especially if there is a visual component to the album as a whole. The only thing I see is her releasing the video as a “preview” to the film the night of release, like she did with “Already” the night BIK dropped.

which begs the question…what are her plans for the visuals…

The fact is, ST really fed her ego and she started to think was above all that.

“One is befuddled, Yvette. To solicit that an artiste—as one so aptly considers themselves to be—make one’s perfected art readily available to the masses is beyond any comprehendible scope. One might suggest that thou learn decorum when addressing kings and Queens. Thou seeks approval for ideas with an artlessness and an unsophistication. Ideas thou shall not ruminate for one second more. Understood?”

“Yes, Majesty”.

Netflix has given no indication that she’s debuting anything on their platform, but doesn’t she have a deal with Netflix?

Exactly what I’ve been saying. However that is starting to feel like the likely scenario. :clownny:

Yes she has a 3 project deal.
