I think Bey and her team are in a bubble, I don’t think they really understand fans frustrations.

You think so? She trolled Hive for a reason with those "What is B7?" updates. She's made jokes about no promo and has explained in interviews how she feels about it. She can log into her social media but prefers Andrew or whoever to curate her posts.

She knows.

Not necessarily. Crazy In Love was done the night before the album was due. The original first single was gonna be Naughty Girl.

With the album drop, radio, and video - it looks like Break My Soul will be #1 on album release week - which ultimately is what we all want.

Before the album was due is completely different then changing right before a 6 week “announcement:rollout” of a new era.?

It may very well still go number one, fingers crossed. With streaming slowing down now, I feel like the best impact would be to release it now and not have to compete with streaming from the other songs on the album. Also, some of us were hoping for the second single to be released.

I get that it’s all a moot point however it’s not like we have much to discuss or go off besides maybe it being a dance album.

There has yet to be a reasonable argument as to why this “ strategic” or “intentional” withholding of the video will make a difference that it wouldn’t have done on day 1 of release. If they changed the single at the last minute that is a bit of incompetence.

With all due respect, the justification is literally right there. If she drops the video in alignment with the album release THOSE STREAMS COUNT TOWARDS THE ALBUM'S FIRST WEEK SALES

So, for argument sake, assuming Columbia are crunching the audience data they have now and it's looking at more of a 250k launch than the bigger figures were all hoping for first week, then it makes TOTAL SENSE to USE the video to bolster those numbers. It literally could be the difference between a <250k launch and a 300k+ launch.

As a cherry on top, the song also gets a re-peak too with the arrival of the album + said video. It's a literal win-win.

I know I'd much rather higher first week album sales than fuss over the top 10 peak of a song few of us had (total) confidence would even go top 10 as a solo track pre it dropping.

Make no mistake, I also wanted the video three weeks ago, but I'm so confused at how fans (especially we stans who follow this ish much closer than the average) seem to be missing the bigger picture and likely play Bey's team are making.

Also, changing a song last minute while arguably messy, is not incompetence. We're talking music here. Granted it's the music business, it's still "supposed to be" about creativity and artistic conviction. As such, if Bey felt "compelled" to make a switch (for example), that is not incompetence. More an inconvenience (at worst).

Beyoncé dropping everything to fly to Dusseldorf to perform Telephone randomly while completely ignoring BMS feels like a very on brand Beyonce thing to do, honestly I’m perched

WgFrKkq.gif

Might as well perform BMS right after too, run those german streams up

Or they were locked and loaded with a different single and then went with BMS (something I'm sure we already appreciate given the amazing response to the song).

I’ve been feeling like this since week two of BMS…but after a few passive aggressive subliminal posts in base I stopped posting here altogether.

Bey, historically, changes the lead single all the time and it’s usually one of the last songs recorded that they end up going with. The signs of this being the case with BMS have been there from the beginning. Starting with them not having a artwork ready at release…

Fans better stream the hell out of it album week and not ignore it for the newer songs

It will still be heavily playlisted so it will still see a boost. Plus it’s Track 6 which is early in the album

For week 1, I estimate

1. 20M+ streams (Double if a standalone video lands on youtube)

2. 95M Radio Audience

Looks like a #1.

I agree with the user that it is smart to save things for album week especially if they are forecasting 500-600K units first week.

The streams and video will count towards the album release regardless, again, the same outcome will happen. Keeping fans in the dark for the same payoff doesn’t justify the means to me.

I understand where you are coming from though.

Didn’t the insider mention break my soul was the single a while ago though? Wasn’t there a text thread that was leaked?

Also I know we want multiple #1 records this era, but with multiple acts - that might help.

The streams for the video would have not counted towards first week sales if it were released with the single.

I don’t know, could’ve missed that…I was mostly basing it on Freedia’s interviews the day of or the day after the song was released. She said she got the call about the sample about a little while ago and then she met Bey’s team and Bey herself in LA about a week ago.

She posted on her IG on June 16 about being in LA and also how she just found out Beyonce has a new album coming. It’s not concrete but it definitely seems like this was when they met and played her the final version of BMS

I feel like some fans are missing how amazing this is. I’m really happy for this single’s performance on charts. :clap3:

It’s not going to have that radio audience. It would need 2 million + updates everyday from now

They too busy complaining and bitching about what they want and what “should be” to realize how epic this is, especially after B completely avoiding radio for almost a decade.

The song is really doing great despite the lack of attention it was given, it really shows how people completely were wrong about how she was over after EiL and TG underperforming.

I just can’t see her releasing the video for BMS at the same time as the album. It would just take attention away from the album as a whole. And we all know how Bey is about us experiencing a “body of work”.

I really don’t know what she has up her sleeve, if anything.

Just unfathomable to me that she hasn’t already released the video to BMS. One thing we have never had to worry about with Bey is the visuals. But here we are…

Really interesting observations!

Much as I take up for Team Bey and there being "strategy, strategy, strategy" behind it all, your points do make me think...what if it really was a last min pick as single?

I also remember those Big Freedia interviews and the timeline was interesting af when put into context.

It seems like there wasn't a huge gap between Freedia finding out Bey sampled her song, flying out to hear BMS, and it coming out as "the" single.

Why that puzzled me mainly was things like the vinyl (which would have had to be finalized a long time ago), as well as the slim-to-none chance that Freedia didn't approve it. That would have meant Bey would have gone to to print with an album vinyl that included a song she couldn't legally drop? Slim to none chance Freedia wouldn't jump to work with Bey again, but it's definitely food for thought when it comes to the "what ifs".

Then there's the timeline of the music video too.

Everyone was up in arms about seeing Freedia shooting the other day, but forget or don't know that she mentioned in an interview the week BMS came out that she was on set with Bey. She mentioned not knowing what it was for (specifically) and described "a huge production" and (if my memory serves me correctly) mentioned "a wall of handbags".

Who knows.

What I know for sure is that I'm going to get life everlasting reading those behind the scenes articles her team tend to seed post release of a project that lift the lid on the lead up and provide so many nuggets of info and insights. They did it with Homecoming, TG, BIK. Even ST.
