BnPac Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 (edited) House is not necessarily EDM. That confusion comes from the fact that now all dance music falls under EDM umbrella for whatever reason. But House was originated from Chicago and was very much urban music : the DJ who invented it was mixing Diisco, Hip Hop, soul and RnB songs. The name actually comes from that club's name where he used to work : Warehouse. But lbh nowadays even black people don't consider House, urban music anymore, just like rock, it's now considered white people music by unwise people. So I understand the comments about alienating her RnB fans. Not only that House is not liked by everyone. Edited July 15, 2022 by BnPac
Kassi Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 As far as promo goes, I’ve never been one to care if she went on like Carpool Karaoke or late night shows. But I’d be lying if said I didn’t wanna see her on Hot Ones Her reaction would be so cute and probably funny as hell. She might even pull out her own hot sauce from her bag.

So when Bey initially dropped, there were all those articles about how she’s bringing “house music back to the mainstream”. Well, my white circuit queen friends were NOT amused. I tried to reason with them that the articles were referring to 90s house, not EDM, but they pushed back that all house music is a type of EDM and there are variation in it like techno house or big room house (e.g. Calvin Harris). Taking this melody as an example, would y’all accept that both are house music? Deep House (vocal starts at 1:00 min) Techno House Or I guess how would you draw that line? Is it more of a stylistic difference than a genre change? Like, how would you react if Bey a song like the Techno House version vs the Deep House version? I know it’s wordy, but thought I’d throw in a bit of discussion not centered around dragging Bey. EMD is a subset of dance music most associated with European DJ's, mainly from Sweden and the like. I hate to say it, but it's dance music for people who can't actually dance. It's mostly a fixture of the festival scene where the only dancing happening is white boys fist bumping and doing coke Disco, House, Go-Go etc. are dance genres born out of the underground club scene and are fixtures of the ball scene developed by mostly brown and Queer POC. They're about competitive dance and tend to be centered around movement and rhythm. I'd put trap music and ska etc. in the same category though they're less gay but still genres that are fixated heavily on movement and rhythm. Alot of white gays are EDM queens, and even though I like parts of the genre it's easily the only form of dance music that involves very little actual dancing.
Tripthelight Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Knowing Bey, she would try every hot sauce beforehand, have Jay record the entire process, then ask Blue to help her pick the best reactions.

ShouldersSideways Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 I actually think the hot sauce would barely affect her

satellites.™ Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Knowing how supportive Bey is, shes probably laying low until next week to let Lizzo have her album week.

The deep house version sounds better to me, and more aligned with the roots of house that I’m hoping she’s going with.

Dreajae Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Do we really give a damn about alienating the urban community? After what alof of them stayed during 2020 and tried to do at the launch of this single? They had a decade to carry sis and they didn't come through like they should have. They don't have the same loyalty to the women like they do the men. Black female artists have to be everything or nothing to garner a strong enough fanbase to carry them. And this is where Beyonce is shining. 25 years in and no in can pin anything to messy or degrading to Beyonce's legacy. Her catalog is not wholly dependent on one demographic despite her making black/urban leaning records. And don't fall for those "goddess" and "infallible" claims. They should be glad that a black legend wants to be represented well at all times. They want mess to identify with.
Planet Mars Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Wait, so the adds only appear when you aren't signed in?
Mitsouko Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Mother knows what's what, and she's playing her cards right by releasing a dance record at this time in her career. Not saying she's about to turn into Cher but everyone knows which...demographic ...supports women's careers into their 40s and beyond. Anyway one dance/club-oriented era won't erase 25 years of outstanding contributions to R&B and soul from her fans' consciousness, and it's not like she hasn't served popstar for most of her career.
Beyle Street Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Tbh, BMS would have fell out of the top 100 on AM by now if she were completely alienating her base. Her name and urban fans are probably the main thing keeping it afloat on there.
*No Angel* Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 I'm really curious what the pose boxes are. Who am I kidding... it's a plain black box with a plain black shirt with white font inside

Relying on the urban market during such a pivotal time in her lif worked well. But... the urban crowd only gets you so far. Very hard for a modern r&b record to sell over 3x platinum. That market is the toughest to appeal to with the least payoff. Chris wasn't totally wrong with his rant. But he still gets more support than the average female r&b as a man. I think BMS is the perfect mix.. It is a black genre at its roots but rap and r&b has overshadowed that fact. It educates urban and pop audiences while appealing to worldwide audiences.
ShouldersSideways Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 They're putting Renaissance posters up in China. Did she even bother promoting Lemonade there?
ShouldersSideways Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 I hope the video - if it exists - is groundbreaking. There hasn't been a great video in too long. All of this Dave Meyers CGI absurdity is going to look so dated and its all so boring/uninspired.
giRLbye. Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Beyonce never really been into the heavy CGI type of videos...right?? i can't think of one

Otherwise no. Hold Up used CGI sparingly and tastefully. Find Your Way Back made gorgeous use of it, too. I still marvel at the space scenes and the slow zoom in on her in the desert.
