She didn't avoid putting out visuals to prove a point, or to serve a message.  She worked on them, teased them for ages, and didn't release them.  It served nothing impactful

Okay anyway sorry for calling the lack of visuals iconic. You're right. It's totally NOT a notable aspect of this era and absolutely NO ONE has noticed or mentioned it before...and the success she has had despite not enacting literally the most iconic part of her album rollouts for the last decade is of no consequence and can provide no context whatsoever.

If you are implying I enjoyed those shirts, I absolutely did not, moreso for their ugliness than for their content.

i wasn’t implying you enjoyed them, i was merely drawing parallels between your statement regarding the lack of visuals being iconic and twitter hives, such as that Danny person, who eat up anything parkwood serves them. lighthearted banter if you will !

we agree on those shirts being very hideous, whoever was responsible for that should’ve been thrown in the beysment :biblio:

Regardless of whether the absence of music videos is iconic (:skull:), regardless of whether you care about ever getting them, you have to be quite unserious if you think that in the future any diehard fan of Beyonce will be looking upon their absence with fondness or admiration :deadbanana4:

y’all noticed those dramatic tweets everyone’s tweeting today ? "the media’s trying to pull a MJ on Bey" and stuff like that  :biblio:

i do see the switch up since she’s the new media darling tho, the articles are getting a little too brave lately (ESPECIALLY variety) but we aren’t at the "Beyoncé sleeps with children" level yet bffr

Unless I forgot an instance, I don't think I said a fan would find it "admirable" nor look at it with "fondness".

I was speaking about music historians talking about the situation neutrally (adding "if not fondly", since people tend to nostalgize bold choices) because they would likely not insert their personal vendettas into the discussion, and would presumably contextualize her choices within the scope of her career. You cannot deny that discussing the lack of visuals of the era certainly has a rightful and perhaps important place in the discussion of the era itself, both historically and contextually.

I really don't want to keep talking about this any further, as I'm having to repeat myself, but I also don't enjoy being misquoted.

I wasn't directing my comment at you, because I know you don't think that. It was more toward the delusional twitter hive. Sorry if it sounded that way.

This is an interesting discussion on the lack of visuals for this frustrating era. It leads me to wonder if something can be both traumatic and iconic?

Side note: when did Variety become such a trash publication?

It's fine. It's just the second time this has happened today where someone has referenced my opinions second-hand and added a context or an implication I was in no way arguing.

...

Anyway, I truly don't wish to go back-and-forth so much so I will drop the topic, even more people come downvoting me saying I find it iconic that we don't have visuals yet the era is a success. I understand it's a touchy subject that everyone has not been able to let go of so easily, so I'll just leave it at that.

Since Bey basically put them on mute when she made sure to ignore their review

Variety don’t like her for whatever reason. Remember when they made an article saying her album leaked.

exactly, Variety has been shady towards her for a while now so idk why they are shocked… but it does feel like people are getting bolder when it comes to her now, even inside the industry

like sir, where were you half a year ago when the tour started ?

Bey is a black woman whos been successful in this industry for 25+ years. This is an absolute anomaly. There are so so many who want to see her fall, and they will.continue to try their best to come for her. Thats why Bey is so legendary - she manages to survive and persist, way more than we probably know.

And the most powerful thing about her persisting is that it's due to sheer quality and her superb talent. Now THATS a statement

It feels like Variety wants a better working relationships with Bey’s team, and she (understandably) wants nothing to do with them. I wouldn’t be surprised if Parkwood passed along stale tea to further discredit them.
