She's just gonna lose fans if she keeps throwing out albums with no promotion after release day. Constant releases are important but they mean nothing if she doesn't put any effort into the era. Another era like Positions would 100% underperform. Positions was fairly successful for what it is

Another era like Positions would 100% underperform. This. I kinda get why they ended the Positions era when they did. I think they did plan on doing more since they scrapped the pov music video and just randomly abandoned the song after sending it to radio in the U.S. The awkward timing of the Positions release with the pandemic, election, and the music climate at the time probably contributed to that decision. 2021 started with the unexpected rise of Olivia with two huge smash hits & a smash album, Doja released Planet Her with multiple smash hits, Dua was still going strong with Future Nostalgia, same with the The Weeknd with After Hours, Taylor still had folklore & evermore hype, Justin was scoring huge hits in his comeback era with Justice. It was way too oversaturated with new releases. If she wasn't going to promote and actively engage fans like those artists were then she needed to end the era on a high note which she did. Positions was very successful and did great for what it was but another era like that won't be enough. Hopefully she/her team learn from the mistakes made during the rollout/management of Positions and strategize better for the next album. They were probably anticipating Positions to smash immediately like TUN did by relying on Ariana's star power but TUN had a compelling narrative that carried it after the initial hype which Positions lacked. This long wait for new music is good because it will build excitement for her next release but the expectations will be high the longer the wait. I'm cautiously optimistic though because we got Sweetener after her longest break in between albums which started a whole new chapter in her career and set the foundation for her artistic/commercial peak (for now).
James_Dean Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 I'm just begging her to work with NEW producers on the next one
State of Grace. Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I saw her IG post and JUMPED. This feels like the biggest WIN since SYT Remix dropped.
Jude Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 I wish Ariana was as hungry for success as the other popstars but eh, she should do what makes her happy. She's the only female vocalist popstar these days who's seeing success and that's what she should be proud of.
R.E.M. Posted October 26, 2022 Author Posted October 26, 2022 base is so dead we're celebrating a new hair colour

She really walked away from music at her peak (a string of effortless #1s, big albums album sales + longevity, Grammys) to *checks notes*.. become an Avon Lady, judge The Voice, and do a movie that will bomb at the box office.

Yeah, weird career decisions for sure but if that what makes her happy so be it. We should still support her once she comes back (with Max Martin).

genio Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I always had a feeling this deserved to be one of her classics and it seems to turn into reality these days. 400k daily streams for this initially underperforming single is not easy to achieve, especially 3 years after release. Her team is so behind for not pushing her songs and sounds more on tik tok. Her songs go mid-viral and push album tracks to 200k for 2 weeks and then the hype dies down again. Other artists teams take the opportunity and push the songs everywhere. Daydreamin' seems to hold on quite strongly surprisingly though. It is still pulling around 250k daily, which is fantastic for a 10 year old album cut.
Da Vinci Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I wish there was a legit solo version of Stuck With U Reminds me of the classic love songs of the 90s and 2000s, if only the song didn't have that male singer
mxoonlight Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Borderline has grown on me so much since it was first released I truly did not get it the first time.
State of Grace. Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 I hated Borderline in 2018, hate it even more now cant stand the production and how Missy sounds phoned in
Stuart Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Stop trying to make bor(ing)derline happen, it's not going to happen
