Yeah no CTTR is a small hit - but saying it's a T10 smash is as ridiculous as calling Dope or Soko's song a T10 smash. Like technically you're right - but logically it's more like a normal T40 hit.

This. How can someone be so blinded by their hate for an artist that they purposefully ignore facts?

I'm not a Katy hater sis.

I'd call Chained to the Rhythm a frontloaded hit.

CTTR's success is like Slow Down, Hide Away. They were moderate hits/pop hits. That's the best way to describe them. Peaking just inside of the top 10 at pop radio and charting mostly just within the top 30 on the H100 is pretty standard for pop radio hits that don't really crossover.

Seems the new pop radio hit follows nearly the exact same pattern every time. If the artist has a huge following like Katy they'll have a massive first week or two before then carrying on like a regular pop hit. If they don't then they get the same success that people like Katy do in two weeks over like 10-15 weeks of a rise :michael:

Good for them but god, Despacito has been smashing forever, is this how Canada felt when Call Me Maybe became a hit in the US an eternity after being a hit on Canada? :rip:

Not sure if anyone cares since nobody cares about Artist 100, but it seems the formula to the chart is:

Artists' album sales divided by 1

Artists' song sales divided by 5

Artists' song streams divided by 3000

Social media interaction and airplay counted minimally.

I wonder if they use a similar formula for Top Artists Year-End chart.

It is a Top 10 smash hit. It just didn't last.

Wondering if Like a Stone/Black Hole Sun would be re-entering hot 100

Black Hole Sun never charted on the Hot 100. It was not eligible as it didn't have a physical single, as per the rules in 1994.

Oh that's interesting. I didn't think about that

I think the words Hit & Flop are relative.

For Katy, CTTR was definitely a flop lead single.

Camila's song won't have longevity.

Selena might get her first #1 - depends on how the GP react but I could see it.

Liam's song is the best debut from any 1D member besides maybe Zayn.

@simmnfierzig Is there any chance for "Black Hole Sun" to debut this week? It's had a full day of sales boost

Don't think so. Is it doing anything noteworthy on Youtube or something?

it didn't go recurrent because it was never released as a single, so it doesn't have to make top 50

Billboard can still consider it recurrent despite it never charting on the Hot 100.

Happened a couple of times before

It's gotten 5-6M views since yesterday, but I don't know how many are from the US

Hmmm. Shouldn't be enough to make the Hot 100 this week then. Even if Billboard doesn't consider it recurrent. And I think they will consider it recurrent.
