Can’t believe they’re just certifying “The Cookbook” because I could have sworn it was more successful than “This Is Not a Test!”

The cookbook had the smash hit Lose control but it was during the transition of digital when more singles sold than albums Legend was STILL getting it. 6 platinum albums is very hard to come by. I'm going to do my research to see how many rappers in general have that and special recognition to the ones pre streaming/digital because that was a bigger feat with pure shipments vs unlimited downloads/streams

The 90s had that special sauce when it came to superstar legends. Lauryn getting a diamond plaque Missy getting up to 6 platinum albums (after having gold or platinum hits in 3 decades)
naval23 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Her consistency is UNMATCHED Under Construction having a 10 week #2 iconic hit with "Work It", and notching 2 other top 10s with "Gossip Folks" and then "The Cookbook" having Lose Control ugh

Things were different back then. the marketing was to get to platinum and then they'd stop. Also The rain didn't even chart because in the late 90s they had this horrible rule of 75% airplay 25% single sales and she didn't release a CD single I believe and rap wasn't dominating in the late 90s after Tupac and biggie got murdered teen pop took over. Still classics but they rarely promoted beyond platinum for female rappers.
