Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 2, 2022 Author Posted January 2, 2022 30. Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3 - Tkay Maidza (July 9, 2021) Quote Tkay Maidza serves yet another amazing mini album with the third installment of Last Year Was Weird Her charisma and presence is still the driving force here. And she also leans a little more heavily into R&B on this one and it's kinda intresting actually. Even though Vol. 3 isn't as outwardly catchy as Vol. 2, but this mini is made of the same substance such as strong flows, instrumentally varied with strings and keys mixed with trap beats, and a lush, floral atmosphere. Her vocals here are both intimate and confidently playful which is very good to hear She's fully formed on this era and honestly i can't wait for her next project or her long-waited second album to arrive Top 3: Kim, Syrup & Cashmere Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 29. In These Silent Days - Brandi Carlile (October 1, 2021) Quote After a very successful era of By the Way, I Forgive You by earned 3 Grammy wins and also be a part of The Highwomen that consist of her, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires back in 2019, Brandi Carlile is back with a new album this year In this album, she proves to be an excellent performer with some strong lyricism in particular. Also the way the transitions from soft piano ballads to full on rock grooves feels so satisfying here. Maybe people would find these slower songs to be boring but i honestly find it more engaging and want to see what's happen next after each songs were done playing Brandi just hasn't missed a beat. She just keeps managing to top herself and this album motivates me to listen to what else she has to offer next Top 3: Sinners, Saints and Fools, This Time Tomorrow & Broken Horses Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 28. Atlantis (Repackage of Don't Call Me) - SHINee (April 12, 2021) Quote Well since the repackage album feels like a full album, i decided to put it in the list It's kinda insane how SHINee still manage to release really good album and the GP would still check it out, especially for a boy group who's been in the industry for more than a decade where loyal fanbase is the only way to sustain their career longevity It's been 3 years since their last comeback and i honestly feel like this album exceeded my expectations. Sure the title track 'Don't Call Me' is bit underwhelming if we compare it to their other title tracks, but even the title track still has infectios hook that i can't get it out of my head. This album is by far not the best album they've ever release ('1 of 1' is still THAT girl!) but it still manages to engage me with good variety of songs that still manage to be cohesive. The new songs for the repackage are mostly good, especially Atlantis which is a SHINee type of bop Amazing vocals, good ass production and Minho still hot as fuck? yeah, SHINee is back! Top 3: Attention, Heart Attack & Atlantis Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 27. Second Line - Dawn Richard (April 30, 2021) Quote If you ever a big fan of girl group Danity Kane, you absolutely would know who Dawn Richard is On her sixth studio album 'Second Line', she's doing a futuristic take on R&B and electronica and also exploring the world of retro house music and modern UK bass. I've never listening to her whole albums before this so this is a perfect way to intorduce her music to me and she did incredibly good job to convince me to diving into her catalogue. While this album isn't completely new territory, but she has a lot she has a lot of artistic integrity and ambition that her idea can be put into one album so well Overall this is a solid album from her and i can't wait for what she's going to offer next Top 3: Jacuzzi, Perfect Storm & Bussiframe Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 26. Never Enough - Disclosure (August 20, 2021) Quote Disclosure is back making another great house music with this new EP. Although this isn’t a perfect house project, but hey can continue to make memorable and booming house grooves laced over hypnotic UK garage beats The vocal sampling on this minis is also very good cause the Catchy vocals and hooks can be found everywhere on these tracks ans some songs are kinda of remind me of something from a Janet Jackson classics. If you really love their debut album 'Settle' you instantly will love this record. Top 3: Another Level, In My Arms & Never Enough Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 2, 2022 Author Posted January 2, 2022 30. Insomnia - YUKIKA (July 9, 2021) from the EP Timeabout, Quote The serotonin that the song gives me everytime i hit play on this song is not healty. Also the Japanese vesion is really good as well Forget about porn addiction, how about YUKIKA addiction for once?! At least you can openly disscus it with your friends and your parents Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 29. Enter Sandman - Rina Sawayama (August 26, 2021) from Metallica's tribute album The Metallica Blacklist Quote Metallica's tribute album was a massive failure, isn't it? The way most of the covers of their classics are butchered by these artists that incorporate their own style of music and ended up being so horrible that I bet James Hetfield regret doing it in the first place. But don't worry, Rina saved all these massive shit and clean it with her cover of "Enter Sandman" The way she made the cover flawlessly that i bet more people especially gays who never heard of Metallica's music in their entire life decide to check it out and appreciate their discography. That's how you protect a legacy. Give Ms. Sawayama her flower already! Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 28. Rare - Nas (August 6, 2021) from the album King's Disease II Quote The beat switches during the middle of the song it's literally perfection. I can considered it as a key track from the album I was completely floored Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 27. We Go On (feat. Cola Boyy & Mick Jones) - The Avalanches (March 18, 2021) from the album We Will Always Love You Quote We Go On' is bright, happy-sounding song, despite the lyrics being sadder, a common theme on the album The Avalanches serves yet another masterfully crafted songs that feels really essential on the album and their discography Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 26. Listen!!! - Aly & AJ (January 15, 2021) from the album A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun Quote I think it's ok for me to admit that Sky Ferreira is never going to release that second album and let Aly & AJ do what she's failed to deliver for over 7 years This is sooooo GOOD! Remmy Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Albums~ Kiiii for some reason Daughtry releasing new music always catches me off guard, haven't paid attention to him/them in so long. evermore only #60 oh wow Deserves better but cowboy like me & closure are discography lows. Wow #50-41 has plenty of artists I either can't get into or straight up dislike star-crossed is mostly enjoyable, just didn't serve nearly as hard as Golden Hour tbh! I can pretty much say the same for 30 as well (compared to 25 and especially 21.) Last Year Was Weird Vol 3 || Singles~ Pasadena ayyy such a grower bop!! Coastin washed F.U.C.K honestly. How Does It Feel The Easy remix is solid, both versions are pretty much on the same level for me. Love Again is cute, just never loved it as much as most do! star-crossed great album opener yup! Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 5, 2022 Author Posted January 5, 2022 25. Red (Taylor's Version) - Taylor Swift (November 12, 2021) Quote Red is always my favorite Taylor's album and it was one of the first CD that i bought with my saving money back then, so i had my excitement when she about to release this one as the next re-recording album after Fearless All the re-recording songs bought me so much nostalgia that i wish i can go back in time to relive it again, and even one production change on "Girl At Home" feels very much needed and making this album even more fresh. But i feel like all the Vault songs sound very much like a long lost album i never knew i needed until now. There's nine of Vault songs on this album, compared to Fearless' six and i feel like this one are so much superior than Fearless' too. from a genius satire on 'I Bet You Think About Me' to Joni Mitchel inspired track that talk about coming of age as a female musician in a toxic industry feaures the one and only Phoebe Bridgers 'Nothing New' and of course, the much anticipated Ten Minute version of All Too Well appears as the last track on the album. The song is a piece of art, with no dry moment, only a sociopath would be left unimpacted by this flawless track Overall, there is no songs that is not improved from this album and i can't wait for what the future is hold for the next re-recording. Please don't abandon your debut album Taylor Top 3: All Too Well (10 Minute Version), Nothing New & The Very First Night Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 24. to hell with it - PinkPantheress (October 15, 2021) Quote 'to hell with it' is a debut mixtape from university student turned singer/songwriter PinkPantheress. I discovered her couple months ago and honestly is one of my favorite discoveries in 2021 Drum and Bass has been getting a lot of revamping lately, so imagine my shock to find a full project of that sounds in 2021. This mixtape not only a great introduction to the work of drum and bass but also a direction that drum and bass have needed for a while. Even though most of the songs are all really short (the total length is 18 minutes!) but this is still really sweet stuff and so nice to listen to. makes me genuinely happy that something like this is getting popular Pinkpantheress has outdone what most artists that breakthrough using TikTok. Most artist that using Tik Tok produce music fall through with boring songs, but she is one of the few exceptions I can spare Top 3: I Must Apologise, Just for Me & Break It Off Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 23. CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST - Tyler, The Creator (June 25, 2021) Quote Tyler, The Creator is back with a new album and i can say that he just keeps getting better and better 'Call Me If You Get Lost' is another worthwhile and hypeworthy record by him. The features on this album are incredible and feature a variety of different artists in the rap and r&b genre. Each song on here builds on top of one another. The transition between one song to the next is great and well thought out. And also it's to no surprise that the beats is the highlight from this album Tyler making a straightforward rap album and evolving his sounds. Of course it doesn't quite reach the heights of IGOR or Flower Boy but it's still a consistently great album Top 3: Juggernaut, Hot Wind Blows & Manifesto Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 22. Querencia - CHUNG HA (February 15, 2021) Quote After teasing this album for 84 years (not really lol) and unfortunately having to delay the release of the album due to a diagnosis of COVID-19, miss Chung Ha finally delivers her long-awaited first full-length album that worth waiting for This album split into 4 sides: Side A (NOBLE), Side B (SAVAGE), Side C (UNKNOWN), Side D (PLEASURES), each separated by titled interludes Chung Ha did an amazing job at making a 1 hour long album really interesting and with that much replay value, hell it's really rare for K-pop albums to have at least more than 45 minutes total length studio album. Also she delivers variety of songs and sung in 3 languages: Korean, English and Spanish. Duo Lingo must be proud Overall this album introduces us to many sides of Chung Ha in an eclectic and varied full-length that is sure to satisfy many K-Pop fans, and perhaps even those unfamiliar with the genre Top 3: Stay Tonight, Flying on Faith & Bother Me Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 21. 4 ONLY - LeeHi (September 9, 2021) Quote I've been following LeeHi's career after she finished as a runner-up on reality survival show 'K-pop Star' when she was 15, around the same age as mine and accomplish more than me of course After leaving her label YG Entertainment, i was so excited to know what is she going to offer with her new music since YG never really capitalize her talent even futher even though she already proven herself on her second album 'Seoulite' which is still my favorite album of hers, and to be honest she exceed my expectation on this album. this album has no skips with very interesting different unique sounds spanning across the album This album has no skips with very interesting, different and unique sounds spanning across the album and manage to be sonically cohesive and blended so well. And she also becomes more confident than ever with great example with songs like "Bye" and "Red Lipstick" Honestly it's so great to know that she still has passion for music and release one of the best releases of 2021. This is just the beginning of LeeHi's new chapter and i'm happy to be a part of it Top 3: Only, Red Lipstick & Bye Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 5, 2022 Author Posted January 5, 2022 25. Angel Baby - Troye Sivan (September 10, 2021) Quote I really love synthpop ballads like these, inject it into my veins! Also Iove how thid song is very pure white heaven vibes and the Troye make it gayer lmao Twinks Right! Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 24. Locust Laced - Sleigh Bells (July 28, 2021) from the album Texis Quote I'm so gratuful that Sleigh Bells is back again and made an 10/10 music that i absolutely enjoy including this song. Peak noise music i fear (chant) I FEEL LIKE DYNAMITE, I FEEL LIKE DYING TONIIIIIIIGHT! Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 23. INDUSTRY BABY - Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow (July 23, 2021) from the album Montero Quote "Need a couple number ones" he sure did bagged another #1 hits in this era including this bop This is such a big pop/rap anthem that everyone can enjoy and sing along to in the karaoke bar somewhere. Also Jack's verse and that Kanye-like horns compliment the song so well Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 22. Savage - aespa (October 5, 2021) from the EP Savage Quote SOPHIE invented pots and pans genre and aespa is about to make it popular in k-pop industry The way SOPHIE legacy still alive and well into this day and age. She's truly ahead of her time indeed Spotify // Apple Music // Youtube 21. What It Feels Like - Nipsey Hussle & JAY-Z (February 12, 2021) from the Soundtrack album Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired Album Quote This honestly should've sweeping big awards for Best Original Song including the Oscar.
