Ewan Chaos Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Remi Wolf Great top 3. Great Majid Jordan album too. Liked that Jimmy Edgar album even tho I haven't seen anyone else talk about it! Me listening to the album: "Look at this genre, it's wonky" Great song picks too. Omar, of course. I liked that better than his song with Kali that came out this year, which is kind of a bummer! Their last song was cute but I was hoping they'd deliver on a second song. Ah well, third time's the charm?

Yeah this hits the nail on the head for me. The first time I listened to it I wasn't too keen, but her personality and charisma is what makes a lot of her music.
Lazuli Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 planet her is a bop after bop and like you said, doja sells them well! white dress an immediate highlight be sweet is SO catchy! deja vu IS the best single you are definitely right!
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Happier Than Ever, Jubilee, Heaux Tales, Division, Montero, PARANOIA, Times, Call Me If You Get Lost and Lately I Feel EVERYTHING on Album HM Leave the Door Open, Have Mercy, Baby Powder, Heat Lightning, Wild Side, Coastin’ and Save Your Tears (Remix) on Songs HM --- Planet Her feels like a bunch of songs collection for me, i don't mean it in bad way though. Like, she has songs already recorded it and decided to put in on her next album I haven't listen Majid Jordan in a long time. Maybe i should do it Addicted, Be Sweet and Chemicals praise
worldwide angel Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 what a strong HM list need to get into yebba and genesis owusu
K$Ellie Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Billie, Spellling and St. Vincent deserved to make it onto the main list Willow, Tyler, Pearl, Maggie and Japanese Breakfast also had great albums Doja's album was so good as expected, almost topped Hot Pink for me Remi's song + album
Pink Matter Posted December 24, 2021 Author Posted December 24, 2021 Albums of 2021 10) C. Tangana|El Madrileño Over the past few years I've started getting into non-English speaking albums more and more and I'm glad I was able to stumble upon this. Great, rich production and C. Tangana's vocal performance helps him stand out greatly despite each song having a feature! Listen: Nominao (feat. Jorge Drexler), Te Olvidaste (feat. Omar Apollo) 9) 454|4 Real I don't like describing music as a vIbE!11! nowadays cuz social media beat it into the ground but that's the best way to describe this album. The sped up, almost chipmunk like processing of his voice, combined with the trap beats and the occasional 90s R&B samples sprinkled throughout made for a fantastic debut. Listen: LATE NIGHT, ANDRETTI, GEORGIA 8) Mother Nature & BoatHouse|SZNZ If y'all are looking for some dope femcees, look no further. Another pleasant surprise, this dynamic duo provided a great bars and great flows over great beats. Can't ask for much more than that! Listen: DELIVERED, GEMZ 7) BROCKHAMPTON|Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine I kinda stopped checking for them after Iridescence (not because I thought the album was bad, just kinda got over them for some reason). But after checking out their lead with Danny Brown, I had to check out their new one. And quite frankly, I love it! Probably my favorite of theirs since Saturation II. A diverse album with lots to offer with pop rap bangers, deep posse cuts, and even nostalgic 2000s'd pop songs. Listen: I'LL TAKE YOU ON (feat. Charlie Wilson), DON'T SHOOT UP THE PARTY 6) Little Simz|Sometimes I Might Be Introvert I only got the chance to listen to this a few times through, but it's quite easily the best Rap album I got to listen to all year! Amazing lyrics that painted vivid stories that were complimented by rich instrumentation. I'm not usually a fan of UK rappers cuz of their accents but I love her voice and she's got one of the best flows out there. Listen: Woman (feat. Cleo Sol), Protect My Energy Songs of 2021 20) Jazmine Sullivan & Ari Lennox|On It I want to SiIiIiIiIiIT on iIIiT So tell me why (Why) yoOoOoOu deserve iIIiIT The way these ladies harmonized over sitting on d*ck is sickening Me any time I listen to this: 19) Little Simz|I Love You, I Hate You It's easier to stargaze and wish than be faced with this reality (I love you) Is you a sperm donor or a dad to me? V simple Great bars, great flows, great production. Can't ask for anything more! 18) Billie Eilish|Happier Than Ever You call me again, drunk in your Benz Drivin' home under the influence You scared me to death, but I'm wastin' my breath 'Cause you only listen to your fuckin' friends An instant highlight from day one. Love the folks-y first half juxtaposed to the second, more Rock-like second half. This song has a very nice slow and steady build up with a very satisfying climax. Probably her best song (so far). 17) Ari Lennox|Pressure Takes a lot to excite me baby give it all you got I’m a tough cookie baby hit the right spot A big bop with an infectious beat and vocals that are smooth like butter. This deserved to be a smash! 16) ABRA & Boyz Noise|Unlock It (feat. Playboi Carti) My baby say shе don't fuck with these bitches, okay, cool, uh (Cool) I told her I don't fuck with these n*ggas either, okay, cool All hail the Dark Wave Duchess! It's so good to hear ABRA after this long ass hiatus she's been on. I'm not a fan of many songs that are sub-3 minutes nowadays cuz typically they're usually half-baked and end before they get good, but this song is an example of a short song that sounds complete and doesn't over stay it's welcome. Points for also making Playboi Carti listenable! 15) Syd|Fast Car Do the little thing you do And I'll reach out my hand to you, ooh (Disregard this depressing ass cover ) Slinky, silky, production with Syd's delicate and soft vocals. What's not to like! Add in a sick guitar solo that gradually builds up and you have one killer song that, in a perfect, just world, should've been a huge hit. 14) WILLOW|Lipstick I think we live in a labyrinth That was created by my mind Controversial? Maybe_so.gif, but I was very impressed with Willow's output this year. While I liked transparent soul a lot, I liked this one even better. Very bombastic and packed with lots of energy! 13) Mother Nature, BoatHouse, Sir Michael Rocks|CLOUDZ So we switch gears like we timezoning LA to Houston, hustling students Built from the ground, more than just music Increase the intellect, teach thru da Internet Ethers don't disconnect, synergy taught us that I'm honestly running out of ways to describe some of these songs lol Like there's only so many ways I can say a song so well put together song! A perfect catchy rap single, with great bars and flows, where everyone did their thing. 12) VanJess|Caught Up (feat. Phony Ppl) Wish you'd be clear, need answers, 'cause Your intentions ain't obvious to me Whew, here come my girls. When I say the just don't miss! This was my early SOTY way back in February and it held up quite nicely. Funky production mixed with the way their sensual, sultry vocals overlap with each others (one much softer and the others much more deep and rich) combined with a solid guest feature make for one of the best R&B singles released this year. 11) Kilo Kish|American Gurl MAKES ME FEEL LIKE FLYING TOP DOWN BACKSTREET DRIVING DUSTY ROAD, ALL ALONE I'm actually shocked at how under the radar Kilo went on all y'alls lists (and in YECs in general). Just shocked. A vibrant, edgy, electropop banger that gets better and better with each listen. Drop the album Lakisha ?

But Chemicals is in fact my favorite from the album too, so good. And I agree about 1 entry per artist rule on such short list, I have top 50 so mine is 2/3 per artist max, but rarely anyone even exceeds 1 nn I had no idea. Alex Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 On It, Happier Than Ever, Pressure, Unlock It all excellent choices
SLIME Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 Unlock It what made her do such a thing Idk how but Simz just avoids a lot of the UK rap pitfalls like it's nothing, beautiful album. Buzzcut was soooo good but for some reason, rest of BH's album never registered with me, have to try to get back into it at some point. HTE second half payoff is very real it's true. Kilo just seems like an under-the-radar girl kinda but real ones know. I remember liking her singles this year but then I got distracted by other things. And let me peruse your thread some more.

Pink Matter Posted December 25, 2021 Author Posted December 25, 2021 Alright we're going to bring this countdown to a close. At this point I'm pretty tired and don't have the energy to try and write some rambling mess for each thing so just know all these albums and songs were among what I thought were the best pieces of music offered this year. The albums were all pretty much flawless from head to toe (to me at least). As for my favorite songs, some of them clicked instantly and were immediately addictive while others grew on me before becoming my faves. If you want to know which was which or if you want to know why I chose a specific album or song, just ask Albums of 2021 5) Rochelle Jordan|Play With Changes 4) Tinashe|333 3) Erika de Casier|Sensational 2) VanJess|Homegrown Spoiler 1) Snoh Aalegra|Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies Songs of 2021 10) SZA|Good Days 9) Majid Jordan|Waves of Blue 8) Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow|Industry Baby 7) Erika de Casier|Make My Day 6) Rochelle Jordan|Broken Steel (feat.
