Was kinda hoping to see you do the alphabet soup again this year, but I really respect (and wish I could also do) the fact you're doing more concise lists! Trendsetter!

Not THOSE being the HMs, it's already a serve :jonnycat: A lot of great picks!

Since Heat Lightning made it in HMs on last minute I expect at least one of the other 2 being higher :gaycat4:

Love to see times from SG, such a king :heart2:

DAMN Pearl Charles just missing the mark for song and album. Yeah there's too much talent here to comment babe! Hope Laura's album sneaks into your list!

Albums of 2021

15) Doja Cat|Planet Her

What I've come to realize the more I've listened to this album is that the selling point of Planet Her is Doja herself. While some of the production choices are a smidge generic, she breathes so much life into each track with her colorful, animated, rap-singing style. The songs are pretty addictive and even the songs I didn't like initially grew on me a ton.

Listen: Woman, You Right (w/ The Weeknd), Options (feat. JID)

14) Remi Wolf|Juno

A very welcome surprise in a year that, in my opinion, had very little music I felt like going back to. Much like Doja's Planet Her, the selling point of Juno is Remi herself. Much like Doja, Remi breathes so much life and personality into each track with her delivery. But what sets the two albums apart is the much more interesting production choices that can be found all throughout this album. If I sat with this one more it would probably be higher on my list!

Listen: VolkianoFront Tooth, Buttermilk

13) Jorja Smith|Be Right Back

Pretty sure this is an EP, pretty sure this is also a collection of leftovers, but I don't care! This kinda eats up Lost & Found :santa:

Great vocals, great lyrics, great production. All killer no filler. Can't really ask for much else.

Listen: Bussdown (feat. Shaybo), Weekend

12) Majid Jordan|Wildest Dreams

ahhhhhhhh my fucking faves

Again, don't have much to say. This was one of my most anticipated albums of the year and they delivered. So many songs that slap hard af :jonnycat: I love the 80s pop sound they went for and they made it their own. Would be higher if not for Forget About The Party :oxygen2:

Listen: Dancing on a Dream (feat. Swae Lee), Been Through That, Sway (feat. Diddy)

11) Jimmy Edgar|Cheetah Band

*pots and pans* *bleep bloops*

If you're into that SOPHIE'd (rip queen :heart2:) hyper-pop sound, this is for you. One of my early faves from this year. A very addicting album and all the features did their thing.

Listen: GET UP (w/ Danny Brown), CRANK (w/ Rochelle Jordan), CURVES

Songs of 2021

30) Lana Del Rey|White Dress

Down in Orlando, I was only 19
I only mention it 'cause it was such a scene

And I was seen

It wouldn't be a best of without my girl! Such a calming song and the storytelling is some of my favorite from Lana.

29) Ama Lou|All I Can Say

It’s not like me to settle down

But you left me spinnin’ with no doubts

Sis just gets better and better with each EP release, and this here is the clear standout from her latest EP. Love the UK garage sound!

28) Remi Wolf|Sexy Villain

I can move to Pasadena

Just to be your serial killer, killer

An instant highlight for me. Extremely catchy, great melodies. The lyrics kinda don't make any sense to me and I don't care!

27) Omar Apollo|Go Away

There’s something in the way I feel your skin

It's honestly a crime that this wasn't a hit.

Extremely catchy, great melodies [2]. Just a wonderful pop tune all around.

It's a stark difference from his R&B roots, but it shows his versatility very well.

26) Jorja Smit|Addicted

You’re the only thing that I need

You should be addicted to me

Love the clash of the muted verses and loud chorus. It adds to the emotional aspect of an already melancholic song.

25) Japanese Breakfast|Be Sweet

Be sweet to me baby

I want to believe in you I want to believe in something

This is some funky shit :katie2:

24) SG Lewis|Chemicals

Cos I feel like my dreams have always been about you now

Easily the best non-Impact song on the album. Been one of those songs I could always go back to since the beginning of the year.

This is some funky shit :katie2:[2]

23) 454|FLORIDA

Miss E tagged on FLORIDA plates
10 years plus ignored the case
It's clear to see as broad as day
You near to me but far away

Pure vibes. Love the use of the sample.

22) Olivia Rodrigo|deja vu

Car rides to Malibu
Strawberry ice cream
One spoon for two

Nothing but love and respect for the SUPERIOR SOUR single :cm:

21) Yves Tumor|Jackie

I said hey, Jackie, baby
When you rest your mind do you think of me?

It's very simple. I see Yves, I click play. And somehow, they never seem to disappoint :allears:

Great instrumentation and great vocal delivery. Short, sweet, to the point, and packs a big punch!

The main problem I had was going back and listening to some of these albums. Most of the time the quality was there. Only a handful of these were just okay.

And sorry sis, only one entry per artist. Keeps it fair and exciting :gaycat3:

times was a good album but it's clear he has lots more potential so I can't wait to see what he's got in store next. Hopefully you like his latest entry in my list :eli:

Have Mercy and SYT Remix :alexz:

HTE was literally on the cusp of making my albums list if I made a top 20 instead of top 15! Such a great evolution from WWAFA.

So many correct picks :WAP:

I wanted to put Chemicals on my list too, but it came out sooo long ago as a pre-album single I just went with One More instead. But Chemicals is in fact my favorite from the album too, so good.

And I agree about 1 entry per artist rule on such short list, I have top 50 so mine is 2/3 per artist max, but rarely anyone even exceeds 1
