TheWayWeWere Posted December 16, 2021 Author Posted December 16, 2021 we're getting more controversial this update TOP 50 ALBUMS 42 Barbra Streisand | Release Me 2 "Once I was sure how real it was, now I try to pretend it never was" I ADORE when legends like Barbra goes into their extensive vault to gift us with some unreleased music. Release Me 2 is her follow-up to the compilation of the same name released in 2012, and this one I liked better. More cohesive and valuable this album reassures us with how great she is and was, she not only remasters, but actually rearranges some of her unreleased tracks for it and result is this containing one of her best songs in a while (Be Aware, I talking about you). The fact that most of it was created back in 70s - decade when she released most of her best music - just contribute it to the fact that I liked it so much. highlights: Be Aware, You Light Up My Life, One Day (A Prayer), When the Lovin' Goes Out of the Lovin' 41 P.J. Harding, Noah Cyrus | People Don't Change EP "It feels like all I ever do is pay for your excuses to buy a little time" Artist without last-fm page, Noah Cyrus made some points last year with her pop-folk releases like July and I Got So High and she continues that theme on that collaborative EP with songwriter P.J. Harding. Beautiful little EP with simple production/sound and honest and touching songwriting, I think her voice is perfect for this acoustic/country/folk vibe she's getting on. And their voices blend together so good as a duet. Would've love for it being a little bit longer though. highlights: The Worst of You, Cannonball TOP 150 SINGLES 122 Sia, David Guetta | Floating Through Space "You made it through another day, let's celebrate" I know we hate modern Sia here, but let me say this is one of the few examples when she actually releases a bop. It's cute, generic bop with a bit of silly lyrics, but I kinda love it. It's such a earworm that I can't stop humming to it for few weeks. I still need 'old' Sia comeback though. We need another Colour the Small One sis! 121 Bebe Rexha | Sacrifice "I wanna feel your heart every time it bleeds" I don't remember stanning Bebe girl single since...I Got You or I'm a Mess? Bebe is one of those girls who seemingly has everything to smash (or at least make some good music), but struggling to find their sound/image. This is the one, Bebe! This is a fucking BANGER! We need more euro-dance smashes from you! We don't need your hip-hop invasions or major ballads, just have fun and release everything that you like sis! 120 Surf Mesa, Madison Beer | Carried Away "You look so good in this light" Yup, I lowkey like this song better than all the singles from Life Support, it kinda reminds me of Dear Society (her best song) musically. Very comforting, catchy, warm. We need more of that instead of sweet ballads tbh. 119 Dawn Richard | Bussifame "In case you niggas been missing' it, I been giving you hits" I don't remember such a hard-punch songs from Dawn since Blackheart, and I'm livin to it! Not the best from Second Line, but it hits you hard - electronic, dancehall, rap, hip-hop, funk, pop merged in just one song! Great bop to shake your ass off. 118 Coldplay, BTS | My Universe "They said that we can't be together, because we come from different sides" Okay, drag me sistrens I know this is generic bop and 'trying to get quick hit', but I kinda bopped to that explosive chorus a lot And I'm glad Coldplay got that #1, even this way. But Chris serves 'i'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom' in music video, which is embarassing 117 ionnalee, iamamiwhoami | summer never ended the damage was all mine "Intentions scattering like hymns in the meadows" iamamiwhoami remains one of the most interesting projects from last decade both musically and visually. But I struggled to actually like Joanna work outside of that project. But she proves me wrong with this masterpiece. Haunting, ethereal, dreamy piece of art that concludes with the amazing music video. 116 FKA twigs, Headie One, Fred Again… | Don't Judge Me "I didn't choose to be me, so why discriminate me?" Welp, do we've needed Judge Me interlude extension? No. Does it better than anything she did before? No. Far from her best work, it's still nice gift for fans, I love instrumental, but the rappers weren't needed tbh RECAP Spoiler On 12/10/2021 at 11:11 PM, TheWayWeWere said: R E C A P TOP 50 ALBUMS 41 P.J. Sbbmsve Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 The graphics holy shit Quote Iamamiwhoami remains one of the most interesting projects from last decade both musically and visually. But I struggled to actually like Joanna work outside of that project. But she proves me wrong with this masterpiece. Haunting, ethereal, dreamy piece of art that concludes with the amazing music video. Hmm I actually liked her solo albums. Not as good as her Iamamiwhoami stuff but, still interesting. This song was good too.
theblackestday Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Bussifame is a smash I love how you drag Don't Judge Me in a writeup for your top songs of the year but you didn't lie. It's probably her worst song, but she has such a solid discography that even her worst is still good.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 17, 2021 Author Posted December 17, 2021 flopping a bit I see TOP 50 ALBUMS 40 WILLOW, Tyler Cole | The Anxiety "You're the only one that is around when I fall" Even though I always been interested in Willow's music, since she's amazingly talented, diverse and creative, I absolutely missed this release by my radar last year, discovering it thanks to 'Meet Me at Our Spot' success (we'll talk about that song later). Album is short, aggressive, mad, vibing, vulnerable, sometimes bright, sometimes romantic - with such a range of emotions spread over the tracks it is showing off anxiety disorder's symptoms. Despite loving some of her tracks here and there, I find myself realizing it's one of her best projects to date. highlights: Hey You!, Poolside, Are You Afraid?, After You Cry 39 Coldplay | Music of the Spheres "They said love is only equal to the pain" I was in the minority, but I actually didn't saw any problem with Coldplay going more pop last decade - they still served both bops and hasn't lost their magic and creativity. But this is... just lazy? Like.. the concept seems a bit strange to me since the beggining, but Higher Power and especially Coloratura gave me hope. In the end we got so-called album with just 8 songs and bunch of absolutely pointless interludes (I'm okay with interludes, but they should serve some purpose or at least musicality). And these new songs aren't even that good. Collabs seems a bit pointless and trend-hopping this time. I don't really find myself wanting to return to this album after first couple of listens. They still has IT (it's clear thanks to some precious finds on this album), but I feel like Chris needs to find some pride and confidence again. highlights: Humankind, Let Somebody Go, Coloratura TOP 150 SINGLES 115 WILLOW, Avril Lavigne, Travis Barker | G R O W "Being confused ain't right or wrong" Seeing Avril Lavigne being an inspiration for so many MPG this year seems like a bit of surprise, but I'm so happy for her. This song is so fun and seems like a celebration of 00s punk/pop rock, Willow really made some points with this. And not this being better than Bite Me 114 Sigrid | Burning Bridges "I could tell you the truth but you'd call me a liar" Sigrid sis gave us two major bops this year, this one is more angry and punchy, lyrics are very 'straght-into-the-face' and explosive chorus makes some points! 113 Jessie Ware | Hot n Heavy "I just wanna be your dream controller" This song is pure sex - full of passion, lush, desire! Ugh, Jessie knows damn well how to make hot bops without swearing or reffering to main topic openly! 112 Anne-Marie, Niall Horan | Our Song "When I hear it, I just can't stop smiling" After releasing bunch of shit quick singles for a year, Anne-Marie finally backs on tracks with this vanilla nostalgia bop, I love Niall's voice and he finds his place here so well. One of these songs, that you hear and can't stop humming for a long time. 111 Troye Sivan, Kacey Musgraves | Easy Remix "I'm not a saint, so just gimme the blame" I LIVE for these random collabs tbh Easy was already a great song, but Kacey's angelic voice and delievery takes it to another level. Great bop with pretty good updated production thanks to Mark Ronson and amazing video too! 110 BANKS | Skinnydipped "I aired out my sheets 'cause they smell like you" After 'The Devil' (which was a bop for a minute, but aged badly), I felt like Banks kinda lost her touch and direction, but Skinnydipped proved me wrong. I love haunting sound, wilderness in it, and especially 'screaming' parts - ugh, sis really can make some beautiful dark bops. 109 Natalie Imbrulia | On My Way "I'm done looking for trouble" This one is such a 'feel-good' bop with some early 00s pop nostalgia vibe, so I genuinely loved it.
