TheWayWeWere Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 TOP 50 ALBUMS 36 Sia | Music - Songs From And Inspired By The Motion Picture "Let's leave the past where it belongs" When I think about artists who've falled a lot from their prime, Sia is the one who came to mind. Loving her music since Colour the Small One, I was happy when she found success with 1000 Forms. Even though at the same time I was a bit worried about more generic sound, but it was kept with a great sence of creativity, art and songwriting. After 7 years it becomes more and more difficult to imagine her doing something in the veins of her old work. Music is a spiritual soundtrack to a movie which I've never seen (and probably wouldn't in the future sans the plot and everything around it). But for an album with the word 'Inspired' in the title, album feels too much uninspired, formulaic and random. There is some cute bops, couple of cute ballads, but that's it - some of the other tracks are pure trash or just rehash of her previous hits. I still believe she's not over yet, her Christmas album was amazing and haunting, her work with LSD was somewhat fresh, but this one is just not it. highlights: Courage to Change, Beautiful Things Can Happen, Oblivion 35 RAYE | Euphoric Sad Songs "One touch, I'm a victim, one kiss, I'm addicted" Robyn invented sad dance bangers 10 years ago and now RAYE taking her steps. Entire EP, almost album since it's 9 tracks, full of dramatic dance experience. Sounds like a dream. RAYE tried herself in many genres through the last years, but I think she finds her niche for now, I've got catched up last year thanks to 'Natalie Don't' and rooted for her since. I'm glad her label drama is over now and I hope she'll be able to do her art free-minded and opened to the music world. highlights: Please Don’t Touch, Natalie Don't, Love Me Again, Walk on By TOP 150 SINGLES 101 Garbage | The Men Who Rule the World "The violator, destroy the violator" Welp, this is how you get into politic musically So stricking, energetic, angry, anthemic, truthful! Ultimate protest song tbh. And that ending SLAYS. 100 Coldplay | Higher Power "I'm so happy that I'm alive at the same time as you" Another questionable choice from that band, but I need to say that I really loved this at first, catchy, memorable, explosive - that's what I love in pop, but this aged fast though. I would've loved more heavy sound on it (like in the first 5-10 seconds of it) and maybe not such a generic lyrics, but welp, its Coldplay in 2021 99 Normani, Cardi B | Wild Side "Drop this pussy down low like bombs away" Cultural reset didn't happen Welp, I still kinda hate Normani persona (just like almost every member of that 5H band), but she can actually slay, when she's not lazy or pretentious Motivation was cute bop (it aged pretty good, I need to say), but Wild Side is the real tea, smooth and sexy, fresh, silky - and Cardi was so in place on this song. This is where she finally unfolding, I pray she could stop with all these twitter rants and embarassing and just release good music, you can make it sis! 98 Tove Styrke | Mood Swings "Don't argue with me, it's non-negotiable" I was excited for her comeback so much, but the lead single was a bit...underwhelming at best? But I don't really know what she puts in her songs that I get obsessed over them in some time - yeah, this song is too generic, simple, a bit over the place and boring for her standards, but I love it in the end, it's super catchy, fun, ear-pleasing, and I adore these vocal distortions. I think the main issue with this is it's length and absence of the bridge - like WTF Tove? 97 Chloe x Halle | Ungodly Hour "You're hesitant, but you could give me more" Easily one of the standouts from album, produced by Disclosure (we need to get them to mainstream again!!). Groovy, magical, vulnerable and boppable - amazing combination. You just feel hypnotic while listening to it. PS: I really hope they're not done as a duo 96 Birdy | Second Hand News "I'm a book of mistakes and it's just getting worse" This is so bittersweet, both peaceful, full of hope, but so heartbreaking. I can't get enough how Birdy is capable of putting so much emotion and sadness in her songs. 95 Alessia Cara | Shapeshifter "Did I get fooled or are you a fool just like me?" Okay, this is how you get back on track after bunch of flops. I kinda just liked this song when I first heard it, but video made me fall in love with it. This song is such an cinematic, personal, smart experience with some magic of Salaam Remi. Kiiii at #100-98 making the top 100 but the writeups have several complaints Wild Side is alright, I enjoy Higher Power, and then Mood Swings left my mind minutes after listening to it Okay the title wasn't clickbait because UNGODLY HOUR IS HERE!! There's no way they're done as a duo, and if they are then I feel like something fishy would be going on behind the scenes.
