50. ionnalee - summer never ended the damage was all mine

Queen of cryptic dreamy synthpop!

49. Lorde - Mood Ring

While Solar Power wasn't the girl I hoped she'd be, this song gave me everything I needed. The early 00's pop vibe along with her breathy vocals are stunningly executed on this.

48. Uffie - Cool

Her best song since Difficult, what a major bop!

47. Ibeyi & Pa Salieu - Made of Gold

Ibeyi make a triumphant return with this banger. I love that Naomi is taking center stage on this song and her R&B influence is more apparent here.

46. Sigrid - Mirror

Big bops as the kids say!

45. Lights - Beside Myself

Skin&Earth was a miss for me, but this is a major step up. I just really love her vocal performance and the melodies on this.

44. Braids - 2020

They just can't do wrong for me. I can definitely tell that this is a Shadow Offering leftover but I don't even care, it's so good.

43. Arca & Oliver Coates - Madre

Arca's best song of the year wasn't even on one of the Kick albums. The Vulnicura teas are strong on this one, whew. Just beautifully dramatic and hypnotic.

42. Vince Staples - Law of Averages

The production on this is so sick.

41. Jenny Hval - Jupiter

This didn't feel quite as major as her other project this year or even The Practice of Love, but it's still a really captivating, unique song.

25. SPELLLING - The Turning Wheel

While this didn't grab me as much as I had hoped, I cannot help but be utterly impressed by the technical achievement this is for Cabral. It's obvious that a visionary with ambition is behind the control board here. The complex production with full band arrangments mixed with her narritive songwriting really push this far beyond anything she has released before.

Highlights: The Future, Boys at School, Revolution

24. Samia - Scout EP

Samia Finnerty absolutely blew my mind with last year's debut "The Baby". She can write the fuck out of a song and continues to do so on these four new songs here. I really liked the elevated sound, especially the more electropop leaning songs, where "The Baby" only had slight traces of it. Really excited to see what comes next.

Highlights: Show Up, As You Are

23. SaliYah - Sanctification EP

Sprawling, hypnotic synths make up SaliYah's second project "Sanctification". Across these six dreamy soundscapes, SaliYah meditates on their newfound confidence as a trans person and shares the inner workings of their mind through captivating, ambient music. There is a really great variety of styles on this, while still feeling like entirely his world.

Highlights: Sleep, Strength of the Sun, Connected

22. Sofia Kourtesis - Fresia Magdalena EP

This really made me miss dancing with a crowd. Through these 5 five songs inspired by trips to her home country of Peru, Kourtesis produces some extremely infectious, joyous and danceable music. The field recordings and her voice play through beats made for dancing with a smile on your face.

Highlights: La Perla, By Your Side

21. Lana Del Rey - Chemtrails Over the Country Club

There was no way Lana would top NFR! with this album but I still think it has several highlights that continue her legacy. I appreciated that, unlike NFR!, there was a bit more lightness and sonic variation to this album and when it hits, it really goes for the goosebumps.

Highlights: Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Dark But Just a Game

Agree about Mood Ring, it’s the only song on the album I’ve listened to multiple times ffff. Beside Myself is her best song in a while, I thought she was beyond over ngl. Jupiter beautiful
