Remmy Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Ready for it Yeah this year could've been stronger, I think singles were significantly better than albums & there were more disappointments than usual.
Pop Life Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I literally only ventured into this section because I hoped you'd be participating again

Thanks for the comment guys. This whole year work has been swamping me so I don't much to constantly keep up. I'll view other countdowns soon. As for right now tho, I'm about to post my full songs list. There's about 75 of them so not too much. Also a lot of trap/r&b this year.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 75. Oli XL - Ribbon Bone [Silk Chaser] (Glitch Pop) Great production. Feature > Main 74. Bad Gyal - Slim Thick (Neoperreo) Solid return. 73. Overmono - Diamond Cut (Uk Garage) Erika De Casier touched this so therefore it's good. 72. Jenevieve - Eternal (Alternative R&B) sweet-sounding. 71. Chloe - Have Mercy (Contemporary R&B) Video version >. Interested in more of her solo. 70. Clarence Clarity - False Positive (Glitch Pop/Alternative R&B) He fell off a bit but this one's nice. 69. Bailey Ibbs - What's My Chance? (UK Garage) Like the sample, and the mid part > 68. Summrs - Mudd Bruddas (Plugg) Melodic trap hits well. 67. Little Simz - Protect My Energy (Synth Funk) Ear-grabbing synth funk. Wish she went more in this direction for her album. 66. Arca - Xenomorphgirl (Witch House) kick iv is evidently her most panned of the series but it has my personal favorite song of the series sound wise. 65. Anz - Last Before Lights (Breakbeat) for lovers of bass and breakbeat hardcore vocals. 64. Grouper - Kelso (Blue Sky) (Folk) She sounds louder here than usual and it works out for her. 63. RXKNephew - Around Da Way (Trap) Both him and papi's vocals are a niche taste. Personally i'm not that into it but the beat choice here overrides that. 62. Glaive - bastard (Hyperpop) I don't mind the current trend of songs being sub 2-minutes long because this sound in particular would wear out if any longer. Anyway, good zoomer pop. 61. Danny L Harle - Boing Beat (Bubblegum Bass, Jumpstyle) His album sucked. Most of us can admit that. MC Boing carried. 60. Poppy - Her (Alternative Rock) One of the only couple of poppy songs that appeals to me. I think her approach to alt 90s rock homage was a bit successful here. 59. Mariah The Scientist - 2 You (Contemporary R&B) The production keeps my attention. Very under the radar artist too. Will probably keep an eye out for future purposes. 58. Yeat - Get Busy (Trap) I enjoy this song cuz it goes hard. The end. 57. Take Van - Time Goes By (Alternative R&B/Liquid Drum and Bass) Why does smooth r&b vocals and drum and bass go together that well? We need this to be the next big thing. 56. Brent Faiyaz ft Tyler The Creator - Gravity (Contemporary R&B) deservingly his biggest song. 55. Doja Cat - You Right (Contemporary R&B) Not a doja fan at all. But if I had to choose a single from her recent album, it's this. Goes with the chill personality and the weeknd fits too. 54. Weiland - Heart Stop (Synthpop, Alternative R&B) A case of rapper turned singer but the retro'd synthpop instrumental meshes adequately enough with his vocals. Got a couple of switches too. 53. Bladee - I Think... (Trap/Cloud Rap) Ahh yes, bladee melodies. Would like some of those. 52. A.G Cook w/ Charli XCX - Xcxoplex (Hyperpop, Bubblegum Bass) I hate how I like this more than the crash singles so far. But HIFN + 7G were a force to be reckoned with for a reason. 51. Dean Blunt - Sketamine (Hypnagogic Pop) Interesting atmosphere. The pair of vocals are fitting too. 50. Earl Sweatshirt - 2010 (Abstract Hip Hop) The beat. 49. Shygirl - BDE (UK Hip Hop) Shygirl is hit n miss for me but with BDE she hits. 48. Azealia Banks - Tarantula (Industrial Techno) A unique approach of delivering a diss track. Her best song since anna wintour too. The story behind this is 47. Raveena - Tweety (Contemporary R&B) Discovered this in the games section and have liked it since. A sunny vibe this has. 46. The Kid Laroi ft Justin Bieber - Stay One of the better hot 100 tracks of the year. Song's a slight earworm in a way where the super obvious influence doesn't feel tired. 45. 100 Gecs - mememe (Hyperpop) The bitpop undertouches really sells the song for me. The hook is also catchier than their past 1000 gec singles. 44. K$upreme - Speeding (Trap/Cloud Rap) Surfgang bitch 43. Halsey - I am not a woman, I'm a god (Electropop/Futurepop) Never in a million years have I expected to put Halsey on a best of list. Time's changing though. The Pretty Hate Machine era electro-industrial beat just haunts me. 42. DJ Manny - Never Was Ah Hoe (Footwork) 41. SahBabii - Boofalay (Trap) She bounce on that vroom vroom vroom. If you know you know. 40. If I Die First - My Nightmares Would Do Numbers As Horror Movies (Post Hardcore, emo pop) One of the best rock songs of 2021. The emo pop sensibilities in the vocals are strong. 39. Bear1Boss ft ATL Smook - Crazy Girls (Trap) fun and bouncy~ 38. FBC ft Vhoor - Nao da pra Explicar (Funk Carioca, Electro) 37. Thouxanbanfauni - Oceanside (Trap/Cloud Rap) carti print 36. Kero Kero Bonito - The Princess and the Clock (Electropop/Synthpop) One of their best produced songs. The chiptune bit music touches makes the instrumental glow a little more. Sarah's melodies shine here too. 35. Summer Walker - Ex For A Reason (Atlanta Bass, Contemporary R&B) They made the right choice of this being a single imo. The energy is more my speed than the ballads. 34. Silky - Playing Games (Remix) (Bassline) Club banger. Will always appreciate uk garage. 33. Parannoul - Colors (Shoegaze, Emo) The state of rock in 2021 was pretty dire unfortunately. Luckily I found them through RYM and they had some worthy songs. At 8 minutes long, colors was still the most impressionable and it didn't seem like a waste of length. 32. Aespa - Lucid Dream (K-Pop, Contemporary R&B, Future Bass) Next Level placed them on the map but it was Lucid Dream that kept them there. My favorite of their limited catalog production wise. 31. Ken Car$on - Run + Ran (Trap) The switchup to ran > 30. jonatan leandoer96 - Under Heaven (Dream Pop, Ambient Pop) Yung Lean strikes again. I don't know much of this particular alias but from what I took, this song is emotional and melancholic. It's not so much about his vocals but how he uses them. 29. Slayyyter - Over This! (Noise Pop, Hyperpop) A Crunchy pop punk sense. I think the aggressiveness suits her attitude. 28. Sickboyrari - Spaz With Them Bands (Cloud Rap) 27. Shawny Bin Laden - Attic (Gangsta Rap) Came for the More Than A Woman sample. 26. Kehlani - Altar (Contemporary R&B, Neo-Soul) Nice vocals, nice hook. Overall her strongest vibe. 25. dltzk - Your Clothes (Noise Pop) 52 Blue Mondays was my early song of the year but as the year went on, I went on to prefer their more realized noise pop/indietronica mixed sound. 24. Kasper 939 - Back 2 the (N)ineties! (Hip House) big bop. 23. Namasenda ft Hannah Diamond - Steel (Bubblegum bass, electropop) A striking duo that I wasn't ready for. 22. Joyce Wrice ft Freddie Gibbs - On One (Contemporary R&B) May be a reach but she reminds me of Crystal Kay a little. This needed to make more noise. An impressionable single and gibbs gives it a "complete" feeling, 21. yeule - Don't Be So Hard on Your Own Beauty (Indie Folk/Dream Pop) The only indie folk song that mattered to me in 2021. 20. Izaya Tiji - Wanna Be The Goat (Pop Rap, Plugg) Personal anthem. 19. Babytron - Mermaid Man And Barnacle Boy (Detroit Trap) Love babytron's sampling sources. His humor and lyrical references hits the spot. 18. Boyz Noize ft Abra - Affection (Electro, Miami Bass) Boyz in their comeback era. Electro is another sub genre that I wouldn't mind making a comeback in the mainstream. Abra's chopped up vocals in the hook does work. 17. Doss - Strawberry (Shoegaze, Trip Hop, Alternative Dance) The mixture of genres incorporated just fits like a glove. Vocally gives off a yaeji impression but idt the latter has the range for that anymore. Btw, if you like this, check out Guitar - Sunkissed. It's literally a whole album with this sound. 16. 454 - Face Time (Pop Rap, Plugg) Love the high-pitch'd vocals and the switcheroo into a slower and mellower roove. 15. Yukika - Insomnia (K-Pop) Another insanely catchy song from her. Have to admit this was a late bloomer for me but it hits. 14. Normani ft Cardi B - Wild Side The amount of times i've replayed the extended bridge of this song Sampling one of my favorite songs of all times benefitted normani so kudos to her. Not even Cardi can ruin this for me. 13. Sematary - Rituals (horrorcore, witch house) Kinda spammed this on Halloween. The hook is ear candy! RITUALS! 12. Silk Sonic - After Last Night I feel this represents their best effort of their homage to 70s smooth soul. Every collaborator did their part. 11. Spinabenz - Who I Smoke (Gangsta Rap, Trap) Pretty dark song in retrospect. It's the dissonance of A Thousand Miles sample used in the context of running up on gang members. 10. Beach House - Superstar (Dream Pop, Neo-Psychedelia) They did it again. They can't keep getting away with this! 9. PinkPantheress - Reason (Atmospheric Drum and Bass) The most complete sounding song on her mixtape. One of the best new artists out. 8. Rochelle Jordan - Got Em (Freestyle, Alternative R&B) She was on some Aaliyah shit here, which I love. It's the first song I heard from the album that got me into the experience and it didn't disappoint *hint*. 7. Polo Perks <3 <3 <3 - 4:10 AM (Cloud Rap) The Clams Casino I'm God interception sample, omfg. Literally ascending. Two minutes of straight euphoria. 6. Magdalena Bay - Follow The Leader (Synthwave/Chillwave) The best Mercurial song by far. It's like a mixture of Katy Perry's Tsunami production wise and Visions era Grimes vocally. It also brings me back to a time of early 10s chillwave prominence. 5. Trippie Redd ft Playboi Carti - Miss The Rage (Trap) An approved artifact of the post-Whole Lotta Red landscape. 4. bodyGaard - Auto Salon (Pop Rap, Tread) One of the most creative sounding beats i've heard recently in a hip hop song. Completely matches the cover. 3. Kanye West ft Andre 3000 - Life Of The Party (Conscious Hip Hop) Perhaps the most emotional and introspective song this year. R.I.P DMX 2. Tinashe - Bouncin (Contemporary R&B, Pop, Cloud Rap) Recently hit me as one of my favorite songs from her. Seen the instrumental being compared to a Zelda forest composition and I can see it with how floaty and vibrant it is. The hook is also immediately replayable. I can see this becoming a landmark song for her if not already. 1. Erika De Casier - Better Than That (Contemporary R&B) Speaking of forest-sounding songs Every year there's always that song that immediately strikes me as soty worthy early on and Better Than That was the one. There's a relatable story too of refusing to be taken for granted and crumble. The verses are hook worthy and the breakdown is equally gripping. Overall, a near-perfect song.

Tom Vercetti Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 A lot to digest. My albums list will be posted next week. Here's also a spotify playlist for discovery purposes
smholiv Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 lots of good stuff, great #1 too that was my fav. Other highlights: Arca, Rochelle, PPTress, Joyce, Yeule(!!!), Poppy, aespa of course. I like that there's a solid mix of stuff here and it all feels like it fits except silk sonic. Will be checking out that playlist sometime. Great list!!
bestfiction Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) The MC Boing supremacy ngl I don't know much of the entries but gonna save your playlist to check stuff out. Only recently got into 333 and Sensational but those are quite stellar albums. Loving the Poppy and slayyyter inclusion too Wasn't very huge on BDE but it was decent enough What's the story behind Tarantula and who does it diss? is that Arca or?... Edited December 12, 2021 by bestfiction
Sanguine Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Okay yes lots of classics. Great #1, the best non-single on the album for me MAGABay, Rochelle, Beach House (I forgot to put them on my EPs list mess next year!), Doss YEULE!! Slayyyter, Aespa, Poppy think those are my favorites. Will need to check out some of the stuff here, great list!
Into The Void Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Well Mr Tom you managed to come up with a list where there's only 7 songs I know and most of them are on mine lmao
TheWayWeWere Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Have Mercy very excited for her solo debut Xcxoplex could've been better tbh Bouncin so high it's great banger Altar is low-key my favorite Kehlani song rn I am not a woman
Wicked Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Great songs list! I liked most of this, didn't bother listening to Dojas album, not interested in her honestly. Imma listen to this one cause you like it. Rx crew just works for me, but I actually like Papi the most, I think he's finally entered his stride. Life Of The Party, man... Andre is never going to give us a solo album, but he need to stop randomly dropping perfection every couple years. Great #1 choice although I prefer other songs on that album.
