I think Mariah has the next 3 weeks, but next might be close She had 3 weeks in 2019 and 2, with Willow in between, in 2020. A return to #1 after is certainly possible, but also a pretty long time away Which is similar, yes. But she also didnt greatly benefit from the old rules there, which is what some Adele fans have been arguing over and over. It made the surprise release more possible, sure It also meant people had to know about the album and go to her website. You couldnt stumble across it in a store doing something else. But absolutely most people who wanted to buy the album knew about it being out, I'm not arguing against that. I said it before, and since we are repeating old and tired arguments over and over, idk if she would have sold a bit less or a bit more with a traditional release ala Adele now. I'm really not sure, but I dont think the difference would have been big either way Everyone knew about the album, everyone was at home on the net 24/7 locked down. Folklore was unavoidable. And yes she did, because it allowed her to sell eight covers on CD and eight covers on vinyl which all counted for her first week because of the old rules. There is no way she could possibly have had all those ready to ship, which would have effected her opening week big time !! Not to mention she also had an array of merch bundles which came with a digital copy which counted for week one. Swifties are incredibly loyal and Taylor sold a tonne of Folklore merch and every item was counted as a sale. I have no doubt she benefited greatly from the old rules.

Its impossible to have almost 900k physical copies ready to ship. Far easier when you can throw a free digital download and tick yes its a sale. Stop acting obtuse. Uhm… they were ready to ship to stores worldwide no problem And she didn’t sell 900k physical copies first week btw. They would’ve only needed to ship 500k.

Seeing as she sold millions of copies before merch bundles were a thing, I’m going to point to that not meaning much She wouldn’t have had those ready to ship, because she was surprise dropping the album and had just finished it right before it’s release. Taylor has had no problem having first week physicals in stores for her proper releases (this was also before the vinyl backlog).

I thought it would be 200k or something with the way stans are acting like that was a huge handicap And not all or majority of those 67k sales are physical CDs in store They talk as if folklore would be any close to 288k in the 2nd week with CDs available

Her fans ordered online and they know that. There may be tens of thousands of copies she'd have sold in store from casual buyers/listeners, but acting like she would have sold 300k more or whatever is pfffft

confetti Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Easy on Smash I remember people predicting only 2-3 weeks at the top.
Harry Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 is 10 weeks doable including after the Xmas freeze

I have only pushed back on the narrative that folklore had only things going for it and nothing against. But of course it also had a lot of stuff going for it. No question
