Spoiler

Aaliyah - One of my favorite Aaliyah songs and I think it's the first one I ever heard too, I like your reasoning, I hope you love what you discover in Aaliyah's discography and send in some amazing choices this season :heart2:

Bastille - Laura Palmer is an interesting song title b/c it's the name of a character from the show Twin Peaks, so I like that. The song itself is okay, not remarkable but it's cute. The song jump scaring you is also an interesting reason :deadbanana2:

Billie Eilish - Using one of her best songs for your audition is probably smart, I think this song made me a fan tbh. Your explanation is really exceptional, it feels very personal and makes me fully understand why you chose the song :heart2: intelligent king.

Carly Rae Jepsen - This is a bop but an unexpected choice :deadbanana2: but I love Carly and I'm an ex barb so I like it. I see you have a personal connection to the song, so I guess I understand why you sent it.

Charli XCX - ilysm and I love this song

Chloe x Halle - This is actually my first time hearing this song and I understand why you sent it, it's great all around and does show off their versatility, which correlates with your write-up, great choice!

Cocomelon - I'm sorry sis, but I'm not a toddler and I'm not indulging this troll choice because I don't want to hear these children songs more than I have to :deadbanana2:

Demi Lovato - I'm not the biggest Demi fan but she has her moments and this is definitely one of her better ballads for me. Your write-up is personal and touching and we're all rooting for you sis :heart2:

Doja Cat - Well I love the song choice, your explanation is cute, like you :gaycat4:

Ellie Goulding - I've been an Ellie fan for like a decade now and I barely know this song, it's actually really cute and I like your connection to it, shine bright like a diamond sis.

f(x) - I can't help but think of the little drummer boy while listening to this, it's a cute bop tho. I like your reason for sending it, it's funny how certain songs can impact our lives for such a long time.

Ginger Root - This is a quirky choice, Loretta is my grandmother's name :deadbanana2: It's nice, not bad. Your reason for sending it isn't that deep, but I too enjoy happy songs, I'm glad the algorithm worked out for you.

Halsey - This is a cute song but I feel like there are definitely bigger/more dramatic songs of hers that would make a bigger impression, but this is fine.

Kesha - Iconic song, it's still such a fun/good time song, I love it. Your write-up sounds like why it's important for Ke$ha but not for you necessarily :deadbanana2:

King Grizzard and the Lizard Wizard - I'm surprised I liked this song a lot and your explanation is really cute and personal, it's a sweet little story that links you to your song, great job :heart2:

Kylie Minogue - A nice Kylie bop, I'd say it's a good example of what Kylie has to offer, not the best but it works.

Lana Del Rey - This song is definitely classic Lana, it's a good intro for her for sure but I feel like you could have went a little more in-depth in your explanation, but it's fine.

LOONA - Well this is a fun/light song, I liked it, I can see how it would bring you happiness.

Miley Cyrus - This classic, I hope you don't get as low as Miley did sis, stay away from Cody Simpsons :heart2: you can and will find better.

Mylène Farmer - I quite liked this, your explanation described it perfectly and I understand why you chose it, good job :heart2:

Red Velvet - This is so lovely, it feels like a very comfy song, I liked it a lot, it reminded me of Super Mario Odyssey, which I loved.  Your reasoning is perfect too, I kind of read it in Frozen's Olaf's voice when I read 'warm hugs' :deadbanana2:

serpentwithfeet - This song is cute, I'm not familiar with the artist but I guess it's a nice intro, the trumpet mouth sounds or w/e though.. :deadbanana2: Your reason for sending it is good tho, I liked it.

Shakira - I've never heard of this Shakira song, a very interesting choice, the song itself was just okay to me but I loved your reason for sending it, I can see why it's important to you.

Shania Twain - We all know Shania is a versatile queen, I like that this bop shows multiple sides of her, your reasoning explains that too, so good job.

SHINee - I love why you chose this song, your reasoning shows me why it's such a meaningful choice to you, which is what we were looking for.

St. Vincent - Your write up is personal and really lets me know why you chose this song, which I also really enjoyed, probably one of the best write-ups here. :heart2:

Sufjan Stevens - Loved your write-up about this, I see why you sent this song and I get why it hits you hard :weeps:

SZA - Normal Girl - Sis you went over the word limit or whatever but this is a cute song choice and I did like your write-up about it, ty for giving us a more personal/deep reasoning for sending your song.

Taylor Swift - One of Taylor's best, a great choice, and I loved the write-up too :heart2: very nice

Tinashe - Love seeing the softer side of Vercetti, this is a lovely pick and your write-up is nice too, can't wait to see what other amazing Tinashe songs you choose this season :heart2:

Tove Lo - Thank you for sharing this personal write-up  I understand why you chose this song, I liked it a lot.

Troye Sivan - Very nice song choice and I love the write-up, loving the personal stories :heart2: ty for sharing

TWICE - A K-Pop song I actually know! This is a fun bop, I get why you chose it, your reasoning could have been a little more in-depth but at least the song choice slays.

Whitney Houston - Well the last part of your write-up is very true :heart2: sorry you've been such a victim of this server, we don't deserve you

Zara Larsson - Perfect choice for Zara, I love this song and your write-up about it was cute :heart2:

First things first, I did not anticipate this round being truly personal. These are some very solid entries and I want to give most of you a hug cause :weeps:

Round 1 Crits

Spoiler

Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody?

Oh, you’re bringing the classic straight out the gate. You not really knowing her discography is perfect timing too with all of her material available on streaming, finally! I always bop to this song. Timbaland’s verse serves as a quick break and Aaliyah just pulls you back in when you think it’s over. The chorus is just really catchy and that beat is just a work of genius.

Bastille - Laura Palmer

Wow, this is actually great. You’re definitely onto something with Pompeii not being all that, as this also makes me want to explore their music. It’s a very good song to me. I especially like when the strings kick in throughout the song. Very solid song.

Billie Eilish - Everything I Wanted

Some of the personal best songs IMO are the ones you can really connect to. So with your explanation, I can really see why this song is important to you. As for the song itself, it’s not my favorite but I think it’s great for an audition. I honestly like the way she’s singing while trying to explain her sort of inner turmoil.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Tonight I'm Getting Over You (Remix)

This was… certainly an interesting choice. Your explanation is fair and similar to others in how this song got you more into them. To be frank, the beat kinda saved this song from being a complete disaster. But that sort of turned it into a bit of a random club bop for me. It doesn’t make her really stand out or anything really.

Charli XCX - Gone

Your explanation is short and simple but you said what you needed to. This song is a perfect match for what you said. It’s a really good song and that’s saying something from a Charli hater. My only complaint is that I wish there was a bit more lyrically but it’s fine considering that I didn’t even realize the song was 4 whole minutes lmao. That’s how I know it’s great. :bibliahh:

Chloe x Halle - Warrior

Love the explanation for the choice and why the song is significant. The song itself is one of my favorite from that album (which I think is underrated). You’re right about the beat being this sort of whimsical, mystical vibe that you otherwise would not typically expect. This is a solid empowerment song that has been elevated by the beat and their vocals.

Cocomelon - Apples and Bananas 2
Very repetitive. It doesn’t seem to have a good base like other kids’ songs do. Hell for one verse they tried to say “I like to ate” only to rhyme it with “ay-ples and ba-nay-nays”. My 4-year-old intelligence felt insulted by this. And THEN they did “ite” and “ney”. It was here that I saw the vision. They were doing a vowel thing. That gave this song a sort of progression. A dumb progression, but a progression nonetheless. The beat is a generic kiddie beat. I always wish they add some bass to these types of song. I'd personally advise that you give her better songs to listen to immediately.

Demi Lovato - Sober

Like the Billie’s sing, I can see why this song is important to you. It has a message about her challenges and failures that she’s expressing. Honestly, it’s heartbreaking to hear about it and make you want better for her. The song is sort of stripped-down yet powerful all the same.

Doja Cat - Tia Tamera

I can’t make this not bop. I like the vibe, I like the beat, I like the feature. I can see why it would be your favorite, enough to make it a gamertag, but I was hoping for a little more as to how it comes to mean that much to you.

Ellie Goulding - I'll Hold My Breath
Not a bad song at all. I especially like the chorus which you picked a line from. The song’s importance to you was made clear. Great job!

f(x) - Rum Pum Pum Pum
Good, solid kpop song imo. I can see why and how this started your journey into that world. It’s very fun.

Ginger Root - Loretta
This is an interesting song (in a good way). I like the upbeat vibe of it and I can see why you’re bringing us this article. Your explanation makes sense, namely how you discovered it and how it makes you feel.

Halsey - Ghost
This is a nice song. I like that you were able to connect with this song later in life after you first heard it.

Kesha - TiK ToK
This is a tolerable Kesha song for me. I don’t really hate it but it doesn’t move me. I think you missed the mark on the explanation bit. You’re just telling us about the song’s success, which I guess would be a reason to send it. But where is how you feel about the song? Where is the personal connection?

King Grizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Shanghai

This isn’t a troll entry? :deadbanana2: The lyrics are kinda a serve. I like the beat/dinging(?) thingy. Man idk. This is a good song and I can see how you connected with it. I’m very intrigued by this artist now. Well done!

Kylie Minogue - The One
This is definitely is a good song. Very fun, I can’t really hate on anything really. I wish you provided a bit more in the way of explanation but it’s fair.

Lana Del Rey - Video Games
It’s a nice song, one of her better ones for sure. It’s very nice that you have memories connected to this song.

LOONA - Hi High
I remember when someone tried to send this song for a SAD round somewhere. I’m so glad that you got it right with that here. The song itself is great, very good very fun very boppy.

Miley Cyrus- Adore You
This is certainly a nice pick. I agree this song expresses how we want someone by our side.

Mylène Farmer - L' me-Stram-Gram
WOW. This is very well-produced. It’s not overbearing or anything. Her vocals are pleasant to listen to. Your mom knows what’s up!

Red Velvet - Milky Way
It’s a nice, solid choice for this round. I appreciate how you found a connection to their own real-life story at the time this song came out.

serpentwithfeet - Same Size Shoe
I’m ashamed to admit that I only heard a couple songs of theirs (and I’m pretty sure they were on someone else’s album?) cause this is very much up my alley. I definitely can see why you sent it, just wish for a little bit more personal meaning. But all in all, I believe this to be a great entry.

Shakira - Costume Makes the Clown
Um… I won’t be too harsh on the song but it’s just alright. I blame the beat more than anything tbh cause the lyrics and meaning make sense. I love your explanation, however.

Shania Twain - I'm Gonna Getcha Good!
This is a nice song. It makes me more interested in the rest of her album. I can see why she captured your interest as an artist.

SHINee - Good Evening
I’m loving these kpop entries, it feels like y’all are actually serious about going far into this competition and not shying away from it. The beat is kinda infectious and the bridge or what sounds like it anyway is very nice. Very good song and sad but positive explanation.

St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
Beautiful sing, beautiful song. The explanation is really strong too. Literally a perfect entry. Cannot ask for anything better.

Sufjan Stevens - The Only Thing
This is a solid song. Your explanation does a great of telling us why this song is important to you.

SZA - Normal Girl
I love SZA but this song is just alright. It’s a shame about your write-up’s word count cause I can see what you took from this song.

Taylor Swift - State of Grace
YES! Red’s Taylor >>>>
This is a great song to send and your explanation is perfect.

Tinashe - Aquarius
A fun pick and I love your write-up. I have faith in you with Tinashe. Very interested in seeing how far you can go.

Tove Lo - Anywhere U Go
This song is alright, I enjoyed the lyrics and beat. And of course, another great explanation.

Troye Sivan - Heaven
Literally one of my favorite songs of his before he released Bloom. I can definitely see how you related to the experience surrounding this song.

TWICE - Fancy
Great, GREAT song. I can definitely understand how this song got you into them and exploring their music.

Whitney Houston - Greatest Love of All
You know what… you DRAGGED in your explanation and I love it. A winner in my book. #OldLivesMatter As for the song itself it’s a nice Whitney song. Ain’t nothing to hate about it. A good vibe.

Zara Larsson - Love Me Land
This beat always, without fail, pull me in. It’s crack, it meth, it’s caffeine, it’s something. I appreciate your explanation for sending this song as well.

MY CRITIQUES

Spoiler

Aaliyah - A cute little bop from miss Aaliyah, not big on the baby noises but other than that I enjoyed it!! Your explanation was interesting because you chose an artist whose discography you’re not familiar with but you sold it very well and I would definitely like to see more of Aaliyah throughout the competition.

Bastille - I was expecting to hate on this entry as soon as I saw the artist but it was actually quite cute, the chorus was nice although I feel like the song ended a bit abruptly. Your explanation was a bit of a kii idk what dog howl you’re talking about but you go girl!

Billie Eilish - Oop not you bringing in the big guns for the audition, I love the chorus and lyrics, a very lovely song and your explanation enhances that so great job.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Erm not a Nicki remix… Anyways Carly is someone who is either semi hit or miss and this edm remix is a miss for me, I’m sorry, if you make it past the auditions and come to hollywood I’d be very surprised. Congrats on getting over your ex though.

Charli XCX - Wow your explanation was very um deep and straight to the point I love that. Now I’m not the biggest charli fan but I can admit this was a cute inoffensive bop.

Chloe x Halle - Never heard this album before and this song wasn’t what I was expecting to hear from them for the audition but your explanation definitely came through to really sell me on your choice and the chloe x halle experience, a job well done.

Cocomelon - I wanna know who let you on stage, I feel very uncomfortable with you even staring at me.

Demi Lovato - Never heard this one before and it’s quite sad :loser: your explanation also made me feel sad too.

Doja Cat - Wow this is a big bop ngl, your explanation was very um

Ellie Goulding - This song left no impression on me, I feel like you could’ve chosen something better for your audition. I mean this is your chance to make it into the game. That said your explanation was lovely and very cute so there’s that.

F(x) - This was a nice bop! I enjoyed reading your explanation too, I think you did a great job at selling why your song is meaningful and important to you and I could connect to that experience.

Ginger Root - I loved this song, it was a very pleasant surprise amongst most of these other artists, I also like that in your explanation you let us know why not only is it important to you but why it’s also important to the artist. Good job!

Halsey - This song kinda passed me by, if it wasn’t for her avocado voice I wouldn’t have noticed it at all, the explanation on the other hand was cute but kinda vague you could’ve given us more.

Kesha - A smash hit classic, not a big fan of her music from this era but I just can’t help but bop when this comes on it’s true. That being said, I think you might’ve misunderstood the assignment when it came to the explanation since you didn’t give us anything about why the song is important to YOU.

King Lizard - This was an unexpected indie serve, I’m intrigued as to what more they have to offer. Your explanation was lovely and very effective, it made me feel emotional, great job.

Kylie Minogue - First time listening to this Kylie song and I’m enjoying it quite a bit, it’s a bit of an euphoric bop like you said in your explanation.

Lana del Rey - A lovely song, very simple but with some very nice touches sprinkled in the production, I like that. Good job with the explanation too.

LOONA - Oop this is very fun and catchy, I love it. Sorry about your unhappy life tho :(

Miley Cyrus - I wasn’t expecting this choice at all but I’m pleasantly surprised, it’s a very cute classic, you spilled in your explanation I fear.

Mylene Farmer - Wow I’ve ascended with this ethereal bop. Loved the explanation too.

Red Velvet - Another serve, obsessed with the jazz vibes in this song. Nailed the explanation too, you effortlessly related your experience with them letting us know why this song is important to you and the group. Great job.

Sepentwithfeet - Not one of my favorites from his latest album but it’s still cute and overall I really enjoy his sound. The explanation could’ve gone a little more personal but you brought up some important points.

Shakira - Very odd choice for Miss Globalkira but a nice one, I wish she would go back to this sound from this song and her first eras. Lovely job on the explanation too.

Shania Twain - A massive banger, thank god you sent the red version too. Your explanation didn’t hit like some others but you did a good job still at letting us know how this is representative of her as an artiste.

SHINee - This is a cute bop and reading your explanation about it just made it a sad bop. Good job overall.

St. Vincent - Another double serve I fear. Love the chill yet haunting production and the lyrics and your story made it quite emotional, excellent job.

Sufjan Stevens - The storytelling in his songs is amazing and he’s great at making music that make me feel both happy and sad.mp3

SZA - Nice song, lovely production. 104 words though…

Taylor Swift - A bit of a classic I must admit, it’s very cute and you snapped with your explanation.

Tinashe - One of my favorites from her, very chill and ethereal, good choice!

Tove Lo - Not a fan whatsoever but I think your write up was very good and personal, it made me appreciate the song slightly more!

Troye Sivan - Very lovely song and I think the song and your story resonates with a lot us f words here so nice job.

TWICE - A bit of a bop yes but your explanation was kinda lacking in this case, like I understand reasoning behind the choice but you didn’t sell it very well.

Whitney Houston - Bye not trans-age :ahh: Whitney served here as usual and I think your explanation was good because it did make me cackle.

Zara Larsson - Wow I’ve been missing out a bit on this bop, very cute and I think a lot of us can relate to your story

@OverprotectedCheck Laura Palmer's music video, it was so sudden/random and the audio is a bit louder when it comes to that part.
