Overprotected Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 GET IN LOSERS! IT'S CRITIQUES TIME Spoiler Aaliyah - Back & Forth - Yes this is one of my favorite songs from her, such a big bop, he who shall not be named made some points. Billie Eilish - bellyache - Yeah I can easily imagine myself listening to this on a sunny road trip to the beach. Except I wouldn’t put this on cause it’s kinda boring. Charli XCX - Unlock It - One of her best songs probably, it’s not giving road trip to me though like the beat doesn’t take off. Chloe x Halle - Do It - Oh absolutely, a modern classic I fear. Demi Lovato - Hitchhiker - I hear it, a chill song for the chill moments during a road trip. It gets a bit boring I must say. Ellie Goulding - Lost and Found - Oh this is surprisingly a bop, definitely perfect for a road trip, it’s energetic, it’s euphoric, great choice. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Fishing for Fishies - A very cute Sufjan Stevens’d bop, perfect for a road trip as well. Miley Cyrus - Malibu - Underrated bop, I agree with everything that you said here. Red Velvet - Hello, Sunset - Beautiful song I don’t know if it’s that road trip-ish to me but your explanation helps seeing it that way. serpentwithfeet - Fellowship - Um kind of? It’s not really giving much road trip energy, this feels more like the song you would play after arriving at your destination. Also I gotta say this is his least interesting song I’ve heard from him so far. Shakira - Whenever, Wherever - This aged a bit but yes such a fun song to play in the car and to sing along to the spanish version in my case. Shania Twain - Come On Over - One of her best songs :oprah: the vibe and the lyrics are perfect for this theme. SHINee - Love Like Oxygen - Uff those vocals on the verses aren’t it, I love the chorus though and it’s the only part that sounds more like a road trip. St. Vincent - Los Ageless - Um parts of it serve well for a road trip but I particularly wouldn’t use it #NotMyRoadTrip. Sufjan Stevens - Chicago - THE road trip song I fear, 10s across the board. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer - Very fitting for the theme but this has to be one of her most reductive songs, very generic Taylor. Tinashe - Save Room for Us - Massive bop but it’s feeling a bit like a reach to me, idk this isn’t something I imagine playing during a road trip. Tove Lo - disco **** - This sounds more like a cute party bop than a road trip imo. I like it though so there’s that at least. Troye Sivan - YOUTH - More fitting for a road trip than the past couple of songs, the chorus sounds dated but the rest is very cute! Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody - Not you wanting to kill us by getting us to dance while driving :wendy7: you are a very sick individual

Kavish Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 ⸸ Kavish ⛧ Kritiques ⸸ ~ @Element – Aaliyah – Back & Forth We love a round that starts with a problématique producer. Bring baby z those controversial ratings! Groovy tune and also a nice fit lyrically, as Aaliyah picks her girls up and goes out to have fun. @shelven – Billie Eilish – bellyache I knew I could count on Billie for a twisted road trip. Not only is it sonically brighter than all the songs that you have sent so far, but this song is also a runaway from her troubles. Sometimes things get too heavy and all we need is to get away for a while. "Where's my mind, where's my mind..." is a good reflection as we leave the skeletons behind. @clue - Charli XCX – Unlock It (Lock It) A great fit for the theme, but I was fearing the day you would send this because it's the one Charli song that irritates me. The dreamy "rollercoaster ride" in the beginning is the only section that I like. Kim Petras' delivery is unpleasant here, Jay Park's verse is bad, and the "unlock it" and "lock it" repetition gets obnoxious after a while. I have tried and I want to get into it, but I still can't get on board. @Not Like The Movies – Chloe x Halle – Do It "You're in the car feeling your puss" Scrihming. One of those catchy and repetitive chorus that people usually like to sing along to, so I definitely see it. The song also talk about calling the Uber and being on their way, so it also fits lyrically. @Rotunda - Demi Lovato – Hitchhiker Nice metaphor and wordplay throughout that reference the road, driving, and anything in between. A chill and loving song to vibe to with your significant other while going on a romantic trip. @touya kinomoto - Ellie Goulding – Lost and Found Such a sweet and warm song. I've never heard this side of Ellie before, so that's a pleasant surprise. I just imagine her driving through the countryside and picking up strangers as they jam to this song. Beautiful pick. @Drifloon - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Fishing for Fishies Oh wow this vegan anthem. A lot of points were made. The harmonica has always sounded like an outdoor-sy instrument to me and its presence paired with the groovy chorus paints a sunny day by the lake picture. I can totally imagine a rebel teenager slipping this track onto the playlist as the family drives to the river to fish, and if they ignore the message, they will all bop to this bright jam. @boys - Miley Cyrus – Malibu Instantly transports me to the beach : it is breezy and everything feels perfect. Not only an essential romantic road trip soundtrack, but also a song to keep listening to when you have reached your destination. It also has a nostalgic sound to it, which is great to listen to while reminiscing about your summer vacation. As for your write up, such a rollercoaster, whew I felt that. **** premium ads. @mokitsu - Red Velvet – Hello, Sunset I pictured the end of the summer or the end of a long day even before reading the lyrics or your write-up, so they successfully captured this feeling through the sound. It feels like driving back home as the sun is setting and you're reminiscing about the times you had. Most entries are about going, but this one is about returning. Love this for a change. @TruGemini - serpentwithfeet – Fellowship Really like the chill vibe and the instrumental. This one is also lighter and more wholesome lyrically than your previous entries, so it's a fitting departure for this round. I know that you could not really send a summer or driving smash considering your artist's repertoire and artistry, but I think you picked the right song with what you had. I can picture him driving with his friends on "breezy Sunday afternoons" with this as a soundtrack. @Opulent - Shakira – Whenever, Wherever How can we not get turnT up when this comes on. This is one of the songs that you put on high volume and sing along as loud as you can. It's already a banger on its own, so it would definitely be a car-crowd pleaser on the road. It also fits lyrically, as she sings about places, distance, and being present whenever, wherever. @Auburn - Shania Twain – Come On Over A great fit lyrically, which captures the essence of road trips perfectly. We've all had this moment when we just want to take a break, hop in a car and go far to unwind. Sonically it doesn't pack a punch as I would expect a Shania driving song to sound like, but it's still cute and sounds like a fun time on the country road. @diogozsz - SHINee – Love Like Oxygen The vocal delivery on this is ..different.. a bit aggressive compared to the previous songs you sent. Even though the song is upbeat, I have heard some songs from them that are better suited sonically for this round and the lyrics also don't really fit. @Sanguine - St. Vincent – Los Ageless Was really into this song at one point. I think that it's a nod to Los Angeles and what it represents celebrity-wise. She dragged plastic stars with that title, yup. The lyrics allude to running away from that place, but also being attracted to it ("How can I leave, I just follow the hood of my car"). It therefore fits the 'road trip' theme, not only because of its catchy chorus, but because of its own theme as well. A song to listen to while going to a place that is not so pure but one that pulls us in. @Noah - Sufjan Stevens – Chicago This escapism masterpiece. It depicts travellers going through different places and learning and growing along the way. An adventurous song that fits long road trips where you discover new locations, meet new people, and acquire new experiences. The chorus is so catchy and sing-along-worthy, and it doesn't even feel like 6 minutes. The different voices coming together along with that trumpet offers a symphonious experience. @Rence - Taylor Swift – Cruel Summer Definitely sounds like a summer song – it is upbeat, sunny, and has a catchy chorus - and would be a great addition to a road trip playlist. It even references headlights and drunk-crying at the back of the car, so she totally meant for it to be a chaotic summer ride bop. @Tom Vercetti - Tinashe – Save Room for Us Chill with a catchy chorus. It's lyrically not that fitting but I appreciate that you made it work with your write-up. It's also one of the few entries this round that is giving me night-time road trip vibes, so I love that. @ughgabriel- Tove Lo – disco **** Like "Save Room for Us" above, the production feels like night-time to me which I love. Its craziness and fun one-liners promise a great time as you drive out into the wild night. @luckystrike - Troye Sivan – YOUTH Great fit lyrically. I like how the song can also have a dark interpretation. I initially thought that he was singing about dying and therefore staying young forever, but it's probably not that. The chorus is anthemic and perfect for a sing-along on a ride. @PinkBox - Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) Can't go wrong with an absolute classic and a smash on the road. In the song, she feels lonely and pines for love, and we can picture her driving around looking for somebody : "I've been in love and lost my senses, spinning through the town". It is therefore something a lot of people can relate to as they go on a trip. Sometimes we hope for a little romance on the way. ~

Charli XCX - Unlock It Rollercoaster ride in the fast lane :cherry123: Definitely a fun song for the car or anywhere. Chloe x Halle - Do It Me and the girls would definitely bop to this on the way to a club, the beach, the ski lodge, the abortion clinic, etc. Demi Lovato - Hitchhiker It's cute and does fit lyrically, it's a little laid back (boring for me) but it works. Ellie Goulding - Lost and Found I think this sounds fine for a cute little trip, it's a bit bouncy, breezy, light. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Fishing for Fishies This song made me think of A Goofy Movie, Max & Goofy going on a fishing trip, it's cute. Miley Cyrus - Malibu Perfect choice for Miley for this round. Red Velvet - Hello, Sunset I've enjoyed every Red Velvet song you've sent so far, this is very lovely and chill, cute for a sunset drive. serpentwithfeet - Fellowship Your write up really helps here, but overall the song is a bit rough to me, a bit busy and repetitive, but I see how it can work for a road trip. Shakira - Whenever, Wherever A fun summer bop, definitely has the catchy chorus and fun to sing along part of the round. Shania Twain - Come On Over I happen to love this song so I think it would be fun to sing along to while traveling with friends. SHINee - Love Like Oxygen I didn't really get much from the song, I guess it could be sang on a road trip but I'm not feeling it so much. Sufjan Stevens - Chicago This used to be the only Sufjan song I knew b/c of some tv show idr, but I like it's vibe and lyrically it's great for the round. Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer It's a light, sunny, fun bop, it works for me, one of the best from the Lover era. Tinashe - Save Room for Us A chill bop, I would definitely vibe to this on a relaxing trip with friends, it's a bit calming, maybe not the most fun but not all trips are just about fun. Tove Lo - disco **** Love singing about my hard nipples with my friends yas queen. This is definitely one of her best songs and a fun pick for the round. ~
