Green Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) Puerto Rican singers Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee are heading for the top spot on this week’s Official Singles Chart with their latest track Despacito. Despacito, which translates to 'Slowly', made a massive climb on last week’s Top 40 to Number 4 following the release of a new mix featuring Justin Bieber. As of today’s Official Chart Update (May 8), the song has overtaken last week’s Number 1 single, DJ Khaled’s I’m The One, with a narrow lead of 1,300 chart equivalent sales at the halfway stage. Should Despacito keep its place at the top on Friday’s Official Chart reveal, it’ll be the first foreign language single to reach Number 1 in the UK since Psy’s Gangnam Style logged one week at the top in September 2012. The last song featuring Spanish to hit the summit was Sak Noel’s Loca People in 2011. Despacito collaborator Daddy Yankee previously reached the top tier on the Official Singles Chart with 2005’s Gasolina, which peaked at Number 5. The original version of Despacito has been a hit across the world since its release back in January, topping the charts in over 20 countries. Priyanka Chopra Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Despacito. They should do Spanglish versions of every reggaeton hit. Vente Pa' Ca, Chantaje, etc. should be international hits too!
Green Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 Quote Despacito collaborator Daddy Yankee previously reached the top tier on the Official Singles Chart with 2005’s Gasolina, which peaked at Number 5. I didn't know Gasolina was a top 5 hit in the UK
QueenofCopyPaste Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Despacito potentially #1 in UK & US at same week

BGood2Me Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Yeah, i remember when S&M only counted for Rihanna, even with the Brit mix feat.

Really? I didn't know that. That's why Sean Paul wasn't credited for Cheap Thrills I guess.

Yes, you can look at his OCC artist page, "Despacito" is not among his singles that charted in the UK: http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/6002/justin-bieber/ Also on the last week's singles chart he is not credit as the artist, only Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/

NumbSoul Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Symphony deserved better At least it did hit #1... Damn at Bieber though!
MAGIA Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 "Despacito collaborator Daddy Yankee previously reached the top tier on the Official Singles Chart with 2005’s Gasolina, which peaked at Number 5." Wow, I didn't know that!
Buyonce1814 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) I wish it was the Me Llamas remix that had this popularity :(! But it's amazing that a foreign song can go #1 in such a hostile environment! Music has no boundaries! YAS! Edited May 9, 2017 by Buyonce1814

This is stupid lmao. He is the only reason a 90% spanish song is even in the top 20 in the UK lmao.

UnusualBoy Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) Despacito is such a smash and one of the few tolerable reggaeton songs out right now Edited May 9, 2017 by UnusualBoy
