Instead, she got an extra week at #1 but evermore will be lucky to be in the top 50 next week. That makes it very obvious that no one is really consuming the album at this point. It’s Billboard’s rule, take it up with them. You have two options, either Taylor debuts with 500k+ because they count the sale at time of purchase or she has a week months later like this where they count when they ship Edited June 6, 2021 by Headlock

Toxicity. Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 202K wow. 102k vinyls the gap was insurmountable even with the digital sales anyway. The dramatics from the OTHs

Cloröx Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Now I understand why certain fanbase is mad considering Evermore's 25th week outdoing their fave 1st week
Power&Control Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 I don't like Evermore (or Folkore, or Lover) BUT she ****ing deserve it! She work so hard after a decade in industry and fed her fans with music all the time... Well done Taylor

WildHeart Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 (edited) 35 minutes ago, onewillowsilk said: I'm not coming for folklore's longevity but it is indeed a fact that she had multiple weeks where she kept releasing signed CDs during weak weeks so she could go back into the top 10/#1 when the people had stopped consuming the album that much and it had actually settled into the #30-#40 range on the Billboard 200. When she stopped with that gimmick, the album settled into that range and it has remained there since because that's an accurate reflection of how it's actually being consumed weekly. I doubt she does that with her future singles. I can see music videos but pop radio isn't here for her anymore like it was earlier in her career and she knows that. There really isn't any reason to keep going all out pushing singles that won't spend more than a week in the top 10. Out of her last 9 top 10 hits, 5 of them spent 1 week in the top 10, 2 spent 2 weeks in the top 10, 1 spent 4 weeks in the top 10 and 1 spent 8 weeks in the top 10. She used signed copies only to go #1 or #2. - Very small amount of them in 5th and 6th week - High amount of them in 7th and 8th weeks at #1 - High amount of them during Evermore release week (which helped it to move number #2 after Evermore). This is total of only 5 weeks. Folklore had 19 weeks at top 10 and 32 weeks at top25. It didn't stay in top25 (out of "#30-40 range") thanks to signed copies and where it belonged without signed CDs was not out of top 30. It had longevity thanks to 1M+ SEA units and 600-700k pure sales(without signed CDs) it moved after first week. About singles, they help albums and gives longevity. They are not only for how they perform first 10 or 20 weeks. All three Lover era singles are 3 Platinum eligible(Calm down 4P), this alone adds them to 10M single units which is equal to 1M album units. For Folklore, this is like 200k(Cardigan). This is 800k difference. With 800k units, Folklore could be at 3.5M units in US right now.(You can claim Folklore doesn't have single material which is fair enough but i am talking generally including her future eras). Lover album is doing like 2.4M daily streams and almost 1.2M of them comes from singles. Even the man doing 250k thanks to being single. Pushing singles help much, especially in the long run, not just first few months. Pop radio helps to chart in Hot100 and promote singles to people. Why would she care about that when 3 singles from Lover era with its horrible single choices reached 3+ Platinum in consumption which is the main thing helps albums's units? She doesn't need pop radio anymore. Edited June 6, 2021 by Artistofthedecade
G.U.Y_Del_Rey Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Insane numbers for Taylor, that's higher than many albums' first week numbers.
slw84 Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 58 minutes ago, onewillowsilk said: Of course. Congratulations to her. I think she didn't bother pushing any more singles from folklore/evermore because she knew they wouldn't stick either way. Taylor's singles have been flopping on the Hot 100 since the reputation era. This is a known thing, no? She scores high debuts but they're quickly out of the top 10 and soon, out of the Hot 100 altogether. I think she's reached a point where she has had 4 album eras where the singles she did push served no sort of longevity whatsoever so now, she focuses on pushing her albums (which have always been her true strength on Billboard anyways). I think her team's technique is actually savvy because you kind of forget about her not having massive pop smashes anymore and see that her stanbase is so strong they really go out and support and the numbers of albums benefit from that. It's definitely a way to focus on the strengths 43 minutes ago, onewillowsilk said: All I'm saying is that I can understand her no longer going all out with pushing singles off her albums anymore because she's done so for the last 4 album eras and she hasn't reaped that many benefits from doing so. Yes, at this point she has such a dedicated fanbase they will continue to buy and repurchase so her not having pop smashes anymore isn't as dire. I mean Taylor swift and BTS have very similar dedicated loyal fans when it comes to the purchases of different versions. If the consumers are willing to do it then the team should benefit.
