A part of what I love about these games is writers sharing visions of their own concepts. It shows how dedicated people can be to what they’re doing. I’ve done something like that before as well because it’s fun. Seeing your posts here about your own concepts feels inspiring!
Hug Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Round 6 Reviews~ @Prisoner @Aurora @Auburn @Jackson I was meditating, you guys.
Galah Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Oh, I was just about to get some shut-eye. Thanks for the review, and happy to hear you found it intriguing Hug! Surprised at there only being four submissions though. Hopefully some comebacks next round? Unless next round is the Top 3 finale...
Prisoner Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Thanks for the review Hug! I totally agree about you saying it starts off weak because the verses were the parts I worked the least on, I wrote them in one take I think

I don't wanna be OUT from the game yet

Rence Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Sorry I won't be able to post today (or tonight if you're from the West). I was doing my reviews then I just suddenly felt sleepy. I can't even think straight It's probably because of the meds I took a while ago. Again, sorry for the delay
smholiv Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Spoiler @Aurora- This was a very interesting and amusing approach to your topic. I noticed "Satire" was a genre so . I liked your chorus a lot, it had a really tight structure that helped inform your concept as a whole. Your imagery is particularly interesting this time around because you did something that a lot of others have experimented with - a lot of mundane descriptions become something more meaningful or interesting. I like that! It makes sense with this song just purely because nothing really happens - instead it's more of a mood piece. I feel like this is a pretty abstract or conceptual piece which makes sense to me. I would've liked to see more of a story carved out of this personally, but strongly written as usual. @Jackson- Not the emotive song leading into a sex bop. This was a pretty cool approach, I liked the duality and felt the contrasting made sense. I was more struck with your second half because I think you played to your strengths there. The descriptive imagery worked surprisingly well with the "sex pop" nature. You lost me at the rap but I mean that's a personal preference. I just felt like it faltered from the rest. Overall it was a risky entry, but I think there's a neat concept in there. @Prisoner- This was super engaging! I like the way you approached this. It wasn't too on-the-nose or immersed in like.. biblical terms of phrase etc. I feel like you found a natural "click" between your usual sense of songwriting and the new topic. There was a tight structure that I admired here, and I felt like every section was really purposeful. @Auburn- The poetic this was really pretty. I like the tone a LOT and honestly I've discovered that that is one of your biggest strengths. You have the ability to capture a mood and really stick with it, making sure everything reinforces it so that we get pulled into the world you've created. I really liked this entry, great work!

Galah Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Thank you for sharing your thoughts minho and funnellegs. It's interesting to see that the satirical nature of the piece was obvious to some and unidentifiable to others, but I like that we all have different approaches to readings.

Galah Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Thanks for the feedback Rence—I'm glad to hear you liked it, at least conceptually. I'm also pleased you mentioned thematic coherence, because I intend for there to be somewhat of a thread connecting each of the songs (the genesis theme was used in the chorus of a song I wrote earlier in the season, "2", which follows this round's submission in the track list, as well as the consecutive tracks "Riverbed" and "Into My Sea" featuring water imagery, for example). While I do agree that "Aurenaissance I" works better in a for-the-album context than as a standalone piece in comparison to "Aurenaissance II", I do picture "Aurenaissance I" as more of a short album intro, while "Aurenaissance II" would be a longer mid-album interlude bridging the two parts (leading out of "Into My Sea" and into "Creation". My intention was for "Aurenaissance I" to not only establish the tone of the album, but to in turn establish the tone of the song "Genesis" so that it would not be taken at face value having been prefaced by questioning theology, raising doubt, and provoking the reader's own imagination. This is probably giving a bit #AuthenticallyMinimalist but I appreciate the comments and suggestions from all of the judges and should I make it to the next round I will take them on board. This will in all likelihood be my final double entry for the season but it's been fun experimenting with something like this since I haven't actually done it in any other season before.
