I'm shocked. Every icon has more than 1 100m song yet miss jackson's most streamed song is at 81m. why???

80's/90's icons with songs over 100m streams

Mariah - 9

Madonna - 7

Whitney - 7

Tina - 4

Lauryn - 4

Tracy - 3

Cindy - 3

Celine - 2

Diana - 2

tlc - 2

Toni - 1

Gloria - 1

Tiffany - 1

why is miss jackson not there yet?

My Tears Ricochet

She's forgotten, that's why. She's relevant only among the ATRL gays.

I would say Scream is a pretty iconic hit though(but it's not a classic either)

I feel like Janet needs her own 'Let Me Reintroduce Myself' to remind everyone that she used to be that bitch. She has one of the greatest discographies of all time full of classics waiting to be redisovered. No one aside from casual listeners is sadly checking out her music.

Together Again and That's The Way Love Goes are both at 80M, both will join the list soon

Yes, I don’t know even one of her songs. Except Scream, but I wouldn’t call that a classic.

She kinda does - I am really unfamiliar with her discography and that may well be on me, but it is what it is.

And yes I know I have a Madonna avatar etc but I'm not being shady - she just doesn't have any songs that made it big where I live since I've been into music since I was like 11.

She has two general classics:

"That's The Way Love Goes" and "Together Again".

She also has a barrage of R&B/Urban-specific classics that worldwide lovers of the genre will always admire and appreciate.

So, yes.

How many does Whitney Houston have, as well as Anita Baker, Paula Abdul, En Vogue, TLC etc.

Curious.

Legend Whitney has many, TLC have Waterfalls and No Scrubs which are their only remembered hits

the rest are fads with no classics

she def lacks a universally loved classic. The closest she has is rythmn nation but it feels like the GP just doesn't go out of their way to listen to Janet.

Her team has done a horrible job at keeping her name and status as a legend on people's minds. She should do more photoshoots, more collabs, more interviews etc. She's too lazy.

Yes, she doesn't have a huge classic. I literally never hear her music anywhere either

Whitney has 7

I'll always love you, Higher love, Greatest love of all, I wanna dance with somebody, I have nothing. I don't remember the other 2. Must be when you believe, Run to you or i look to you

Whitney also has the most remembered classics among all the pre-2000s females

Janet's discography is much more r&b than pop. That limits her global hitmaking power, both past and recurrent. ATRL doesn't take that into account. There's a reason why most of Whitney's and Mariah's global classics lean pop, even though they were both r&b artists.

The sound Janet had during most of her prime was simply not much of a thing outside the US. In the first decade of her career (starting with Control obviously), Janet only had 2 top 10 hits on the European chart (WHYDFML at #9 and TTWLG at #7). She had her first and only solo #1 on the chart with Together Again and then her only other solo top 5 with All For You, aka the 2 pop songs.
