Because a huge chunk of America's queer history is tied to discrimination, the AIDS crisis, etc., so the reality is that a lot of queer history is depressing. But I think the amount of new films recently means that we'll start seeing less depressing content.

If you're looking for some film recs, I suggest:

God's Own Country

Just Friends

The Thing About Harry

Hawaii

Taekwondo

And Then We Danced

Cousins :toofunny3:

We need more writers who are LGBT to tell more honest and realistic stories.

Movies shouldn't always have to be a happy or sad ending. Make it believable.

Because LGBT life is still hard, yeah it may not be for you, but for many others it is very hard to be an LGTB member. It’s not only about finding love or a partner, many people can’t even get proper jobs, are harassed everyday, have to settle down for a life inside the closet with anxiety and depression, etc. Not every LGTBQ+ person has the privilege to live the life they want.

Exactly this. And there is this idea in every gay men head or subconciousness that we are all "disgusting" and that "God hates us" or that we are going to hell. When you grow up hearing those messy things it will be hard to heal yourself from it our close year ears to it. Especially when it becomes a learned behaviour. Then the gays have bad relationships and terrible lives and it reflects like that in the movies. Its sad and disgusting.

I was watching a gay anime a month ago, it was so beautiful it brought me to tears so many times :jonny4: It's called "GIVEN" if anyone is interested. Only 11 episodes long too. You will feel sadness/happiness all in once.

Most of the widely accessible films are awards bait and benefit more from showing queer people in emotional pain
