ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted March 15 ATRL Moderator Share Posted March 15 A year later and it's still March! Somehow we've all survived arguably the worst 12 months of our lives, which calls for a celebration — and a new edition of the annual tournament you've all been waiting for. You don't even have to wear a mask. Yes, it's that time again. As college basketball fever sweeps the nation, we here at ATRL turn to what we do best: pitting celebrities against one another. We've already crowned the dreamiest song by a teen idol, the supreme girl group track, the most bloody brilliant British single, the most iconic album cover, Oscar's gold standard Best Original Song, our favorite female video, the one-hit wonder we'll never tire of, the best Record of the Year winner, the greatest #1 hit of all time and Hollywood's hottest hottie. For our 11th (!) edition, we're leaning into our veteran status and turning our attention to another controversial cultural institution that honors the stars of yesteryear. Hate it or love it, nothing else in the music industry confers legacy and legitimacy quite like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. From ABBA to ZZ Top, more than 220 acts have been recognized by this shadowy cabal of industry insiders over the past three and a half decades for their artistic excellence and their impact shaping the history of rock and roll. Now we'll decide which inductee is the most legendary of them all. Throughout the tournament, everyone will have a chance to participate by voting for their favorite artists in one-on-one match-ups, whittling down the field of 64 icons until we reach our champion. But I need your help before we can begin! Please nominate your list of the top ten Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees (no ranking necessary) in the thread below. You can find the entire list of performers who have been honored here. These ballots will be used to determine the final list of competitors and help decide their tournament seeds. Now get to it, because the fun begins in just a few days and you don't want your picks to be left out!

andresg770
Oh dear, only ten? I'll have to be strategic to get at least some of my faves into the conversation... Roy Orbison R.E.M. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers The Pretenders Peter Gabriel The Cars Elvis Costello and the Attractions The Clash Talking Heads Bruce Springsteen Sheesh, felt terrible not voting for Prince, Bowie, Elton, Janet, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music ( ), The Cure, etc., but there are just too many artists to choose from -- and most of these don't need my help here
andresg770
Oh, and if we were doing singles by HOFers, The Ronettes would've made my top 10 without hesitation:

touya kinomoto
It's that time of the year again, huh? Ready for my selection to flop again. Shortlisting 10 is a daunting task. Even coming up with the list below was already hard. I don't know how I would select my final 10. Spoiler ABBA AC/DC Beastie Boyz The Beatles Bee Gees Otis Blackwell Blondie David Bowie Ray Charles Eric Clapton Earth, Wind and Fire Fleetwood Mac Aretha Franklin Green Day Hall & Oates Whitney Houston Janet Jackson Michael Jackson Etta James Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Billy Joel Elton John Janis Joplin Lynyrd Skynyrd Madonna Bob Marley Joni Mitchell Stevie Nicks The Notorious B.I.G. Laura Nyro Elvis Presley Prince Queen R.E.M. Radiohead Bonnie Raitt Otis Redding Smokey Robinson The Rolling Stones The Ronettes Linda Ronstadt Santana Tupac Shakur Simon & Garfunkel Nina Simone Bruce Springsteen Donna Summer U2 Stevie Wonder BUT LEMME TRY AND COME UP WITH 10 ARTISTS. THIS IS BASED ON THE MUSIC I GREW UP TO: 1. Stevie Wonder 2. Earth, Wind & Fire 3. Green Day 4. Joni Mitchell 5. Janis Joplin 6. Bruce Springsteen 7. Fleetwood Mac 8. Bob Marley 9. Bonnie Raitt 10. Eric Clapton I decided not to include Madge, Janet, Whitney, Donna, Aretha, Stevie, MJ, Prince and Bowie since they will most likely get more votes and will make the final draft. Looking forward to the final bracket @supaspaz!
touya kinomoto
Kinda shocked to find out that Kate Bush, Allison Krauss and Natalie Cole aren't HOFers yet. Also surprised to see Carole King not inducted as a performer. Hoping for more female inductees in the coming years. Rooting for Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman and Garbage. Hopefully to start being addressed this year when Carole King and Tina Turner finally get inducted as performers.

That's true, the Madonna voting block is pretty strong here... But surely at some point all her singles would start to split the vote, right? (Sorry, I spent all of last night on Goldderby ). Anywho, stream "Be My Baby," people!!!
