Album ATRL thinks is a flop, but actually did okay

There are actually many parallelisms between ARTPOP and Witness - #4-peaking lead singles that did remarkably in Europe, one more moderate hit, disappointing chart runs for the album that still translated into several certifications around the world... sure, they're both massive downfalls from their previous eras, but they did OK as the thread asks!

Yes that's right - and for example in France, Witness is gold and has a platinum hit and two gold hits. Artpop is platinum and has a gold and platinum hit. Probably the same story in Italy... That isn't easy to get in those markets but the success is down played

Romance, it was just an underperformance compared to her debut :michael:

This... Didn't it chart for 40 weeks? That's not a flop... Made me laugh seeing atrl get their kii over their standards where USA is the only country that matters :dies:

This.

I don’t know about “MOTS” (although it’s currently outstreaming albums such as “Stripped” and “J.Lo”. :toofunny2:) but “AGLM” sold 4M pure copies WW/~7M album equivalents and had three top ten Hot 100 hits.

She was also the “Female Artist of the Year: 2006” according to BB; #4 overall behind Chris Brown/Nickelback/Rascal Flatts.

ARTPOP, Cheek to Cheek, Joanne, and Chromatica. :giraffe: Contrary to what some would have you believe, Gaga has never had a full blown flop era yet.

Witness is certified in nine countries (as many as Joanne and one less than Lover), its videos pulled humongous numbers, and CTTR was a hit.

And here’s where certifications are misleading.

Lover was the best selling album of 2019.

No contest.

They're not misleading, they just show Lover's success was concentrated in certain markets.

Lover sold millions in China and millions in USA and this is “concentrated in certain markets?”????

ARTPOP - certified in 14 countries. People mostly say it flopped because it did worse than Prism, which was released at the same time, and also because the era was messy (media backlash, Gaga losing most of her team including manager, the DWUW music video mess, the era ending few months after release, etc.).

I mean compared to her previous projects the reception was definitely underwhelming, but it was not a Bionic-size flop.

The people denying Artpop flopped :bibliahh:

It has less than 30 weeks on the BB200. This revisionist history needs to stop :bibliahh:

This.

Being a Little Monster (like I was) in 2013-2014 was tough

There was really the feeling that she was delivering the new scripture. That it will be the album of the century.

As a Liddo, I was led into believing that everyone had their eyes set out for Ga. Like many monsters, I believed ARTPOP would change the course of pop music.

But yeah, none of that happened, and that album truly was a flop and the beginning of ha first downfall.
