QueenofCopyPaste Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 THIS CHART STORY BELONGS TO EVERYBODY Def Jam's Logic has emerged as the clear winner in this week's Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart race, taking the #1 prize with a total north of 251k for third album Everybody. The rapper made a strong D2C showing, thanks to his rabid fanbase. For much of the week, it was a real squeaker of a race, and Mercury Nashville’s Chris Stapleton battled admirably through the final inning. The bearded troubadour’s From a Room: Volume 1 wrapped things up at #2 with a strong 222k. (On the Album Sales Chart, Stapleton did in fact receive #1 honors. His set moved approximately 206k units, while Logic’s moved 199k.) It’s also worth noting that his breakout set Traveller—originally out in 2015—leaped #33-22, up 67% with upwards of 23k, in tandem with the release of the new album. As for the other debuts, Russ’ There’s Really a Wolf (Columbia) bows at #7 with 49k, NOW’s Now 62 comes in at #9 with 36k and Diana Krall’s Turn Up the Quiet (Verve) appears at #14 with 30k. Hollywood’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 sees a big jump this week as a result of the movie’s opening. The soundtrack bounds #9-4, up 134% with 87k. By the way, Awesome Mix: Vol. 1—originally out in 2014—re-enters the chart at #29 with just south of 18k. And there’s another film-related re-entry worth mentioning. Republic’s Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack flies in at #21 with 24k, as the DVD hits stores. Strange choice for a Mother’s Day present, but we ain’t judging. Mommy…? When it comes to SPS marketshare, UMG is #1 with 69% (…hehe, 69, hehe…) and WMG is #2 with 16%, while SME follows with 14% and the indies hold 1%. Streeting this week are albums from Columbia’s Harry Styles (in case you hadn’t noticed) and Southern Ground/Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band. YOUR TOP 20: A RACE TO THE FINISH (UPDATE) The duel for #1 at SPS between Logic and Chris Stapleton keeps taking more twists and turns, with the battle causing both projects to blow past their initial (and even updated) forecasts. After the latest surges by both titles, Logic (with big streaming and D2C) has edged into the lead, while word of mouth on Stapleton remains stellar. Expect more drama before they reach the finish line. It looks like Logic and Chris Stapleton will split the two big charts next week. After one full day of sales and streams, Logic appears headed to the top of our SPS chart while Stapleton will likely take the sales crown. GoneHome Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Logic That's amazing. Chris too. Great numbers overall this week
iamvladd Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Couldn't really get into Chris (haven't listened to his last album in full) but I'll give him another try. Slay tho!
fridayteenage Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) I was expecting 300k+ for Chris. His album was pretty huge, esp for a country artist who radio is meh about. tons of longevity too Edited April 26, 2017 by fridayteenage
Recordyear Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Would be cool for Chris to end the drought of Billboard 200 #1 country albums since Jason Aldean's They Don't Know.
dussymob Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Logic needs to come through with that first number one.
QueenBLadyG Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Chris and Logic, SLAYING! Talent truly winning!
Rentboy Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) Streaming is certainly hip hops new best friend. A platform country acts certainly cant compete on. Edited April 26, 2017 by Rentboy
fridayteenage Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I mean, in theory they could. But country esp females generally never got on a level playing field in terms of digital sales, Taylor excepted.
FanOfPop Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 HDD updated their estimates: Quote Logic (Def Jam) 225-240k SPS, 155-165k albumChris Stapleton (Mercury Nashville) 185-200k, 175-185kRuss (Columbia) 36-41k, 18-20k
alexanderao Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Amazing for Logic. Surprised to see Chris's decrease, but those are still very good numbers.
Otter Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 I only know logic because I stan the guy who painted his albums cover. The white hip hop stans have come out in force
Otter Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 The fact that he opened higher than all pop girls not Beyonce, Taylor and Adele
