Anthem
She was forced to use the baby/nasally tone, yes. Her record label wanted her to have a very distinct, young sound. Britney originally wanted her music to be more akin to Sheryl Crow, and be able to showcase her natural alto abilities. She still would if she’d be given some creative control. brainmaniac
There’s nothing “soulful/rnb” about her first album so probably not
#FreeBritney Activist Enzolorenzo Posted January 23 #FreeBritney Activist Share Posted January 23 She was forced to use a baby voice if anything lol. Her original voice is more soulful

Pheromosa
Yeah they made her sing like a baby and now her voice is ruined for life. Your question is true for P!nk though Edited January 23 by Pheromosa
#FreeBritney Activist Aqua Posted January 23 #FreeBritney Activist Share Posted January 23 Who ever said that? She's naturally a mezzo-soprano but adopted a lighter, more airy tone once she signed her record deal. You can hear the most hints of her natural voice on her debut album though. Jeremiah
No? Actually, they described her voice as very Toni Braxton when she signed, but it’s clear it’s the baby voice the one “enforced.”
Melancholy
her debut has her most natural soulful "sheryl crow" vocals out of all the stuff she released i agree, she was not forced to sing like that however, the truth is the opposite, she was forced to NOT sing like that and instead adopt the baby voice which she used to sing the entirety of her discog thereafter (You got it all and where are you now are from OIDIA are baby one more time discards)
Pedro Labre
She recorded some songs for the album with her original voice
