Snowflake
The viral memes, massive streams (even without AIWFCIY) and appeal to the new generation...is Mimi more relevant than Madge in 2021? Discuss and keep it cute
LosingHimWasBlue
AIWFCIY is arguably bigger than Mariah Carey itself. Madonna still Queen of Pop, and Best Selling Female Artist tho.

Madonna still Queen of Pop, and Best Selling Female Artist tho. that’s not a thing (especially about someone who is one of the all-time best selling artists). There’s a reason Mariah went viral for two months for being The Queen of Christmas, etc. She’s also had other songs go viral on TikTok and has (by far) the better recurrent streams of the two - with and without Xmas. Anyway, we have this thread every week and the answer is always Mariah. Edited January 19 by suburbannature
Truth Teller
Still no. Madame X outsold and outstreamed Caution 3 times over and Madonna can still tour very successfully, albeit not on the level of her older tours. I love Mariah, but y'all need to stop using Twitter to put down Madonna.
Dark Horse
she's been more relevant than madonna in the 90s, 00s, 10s, and now the 20s.
Solar
She kinda is, even musically her legacy has a bigger influence/presence in current pop trends as of now.

Marshal_ac
People listen to AIWFC because it’s Christmas, not because they go out of their way to listen to a Mariah song. madonna has outsold every mariah album since like Ray of Light I think? Definitely bigger sales world wide.

Yes, also this. The pop song/rapper trend was popularized by Mariah, melismatic singing in pop music, the modern day Xmas attempts, the meld of R&B and pop, her remixes

Such a tired excuse for Mariah dominating two months of every year. Y’all wish your faves could

tiagol88
Honestly now...when was the last time both of them released albums around the same time and Mariah sold more? 1994?
KMO
32 minutes ago, LosingHimWasBlue said: AIWFCIY is arguably bigger than Mariah Carey itself. End of thread. OT: in the USA maybe? I don’t think I’ve heard a Mariah song out and about (other than AIWFCIY) since I was a child here in Aus. Madonna’s classics spanning decades still get airplay everywhere. Mariah was huge in the 90s here, from what I gather though, and both are still household names. Edited January 19 by KMO

suburbannature
There’s a reason why Madonna stans are relying on irrelevant Google Trends (that include Blessed Madonna) and ignoring global streaming stats, Mariah dominating two months every year with her own music, and her musical impact in today’s songs, her TikTok relevance, and downplaying Asia. I’ll leave it at that.
