it is not overshipped.

they always make x2~x3 of expected first week sales to the store. (nowadays more likely x2 due to less album sales, especially physical)

it is how distribution works. you can't expect same/similar number between shipment and retail to customer sales.

We're not talk about first month of sales but about first year. Both albums are selling well so Sony overshipped albums for next half of year because they know that sales will be still good. Especially 25 was overshipped before Xmas 2015

it is not overshipped when the product is selling well, and sold most of its shipment.

overshipped is for albums with big shipments due to hype and previous albums's success but failed to sell that.

So clearly lots of the sales of 25 last year were from the 2015 shipments!

But what's the truth about tracking period? Jan-dec or feb-feb?

Congrats to Adele, Bey and the others :clap3:

Agreed, over-shipment seems a lot less likely in this sales climate.

Makes no sense to include SPS for songs two years in a row, but pure sales for albums. :rip:

Makes sense sis. It basically measures the most popular albums and songs. You ain't making an album more popular by streaming the same song for like 1000 times. Only the song becomes popular, not the entire record.

This has been my take on this sales plus streaming mess by Billboard 200 chart.

makes no sense because Adele outsold everyone on here with Pure sales ???

IFPI counts shipments

OT: surprised TIWYCF didn't make the top 10 :biblio:

well Stressed Out is #10 with 9.9M copies sold. Why is it hard to believe CSTF & TIWYCF are below that? They are probably in the top 15.

They use shipments.

Adele 25

IFPI:

2015 Shipments: 17,4 million

2016: Shipments: 2,4 million

Total 2015 + 2016: 19,8 million

Mediatraffic sales estimations:

2015: 14.970.000

2016: 4.668.000

Total sales (2015 + 2016) = 19.638.000

Their total estimations for 25 are almost on point though :clap3:

Queen Adele selling almost all her shipments :alexz:

With the 2017 sales 25 is already over 20 million

Despite of including streaming the 2016 singles chart looks weak compared with the 2015 singles chart (because the 2015 singles did great in sales)

I said it long time ago, sps being main album chart around world, make it more difficult to estimate pure sales.

because there's no way to separate sps number and pure sales unless the charts gave away the numbers

(two 10k sps album can be 5k pure 5k streaming or 1k pure 9k streaming)

and they only release those information for top 5/10 albums or some interesting albums.

so this sps album chart makes mediatraffic much more difficult to estimate during 2016.

not to mention the pure sales went downhill much faster in EU and Asia than US.

(his method like +10% for small eu contries, +10% for asia don't work well with sps era.)

so.. from mediatraffic to ifpi official shipment

lemonade 170k off, david bowie 80k off(or less who knows), albums with less streaming have less difference.

while album with huge streaming have bigger difference. drake 350k off.

coldplay and twenty were 2015 releases.

i don't get why IFPI still doesn't include streams in their top 10 albums, since almost every country includes streams in their main album chart now :rip:

now the top 10 albums list looks so weak, best selling album is at 2.5M...

Posted

Metacritic is the worst source of sales

From the age of streams, his estimates no longer make sense

I guess because they all use different method. and maybe different gross?

like If we use UK method on US numbers... they will be like 50% down.

but yeah. they should make sps album chart too.

it will be some hard works and making rule for it.. blahblah

but since they can access to global streaming numbers, why not?
