Ironically, they'll probably start using SPS next year. I believe they counted February 2016-January 2017, and didn't include January 2016. Makes much more sense through that tracking period. Adele still outsold everyon with album sales. don't know what they're talking about
Destiny Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Mrs Drug Dealers Anonymous makes #1 on album sales The longevity of Beyonce though... Did 24k Magic outsell Anti in 3 months??????
DELE2125 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 But 25 sold north of 4M copies in 2016 Why would they report sales from February and not take into account January?

They use shipments, not sales. More reliable and more relevant commercially anyway. Adele's album came out two years ago and is probably already over-shipped. Edited April 25, 2017 by RobynYoBank

IVY Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Top Global Albums of 2016 (based on Pure Sales): 1. Lemonade, Beyonce 2. 25, Adele 3. Views, Drake 4. Hardwired, Metallica 5. Blackstar, David Bowie 6. Blue & Lonesome, The Rolling Stones 7. 24k Magic, Bruno Mars 8. Blurryface, Twenty One Pilots 9. A Head Full of Dreams, Coldplay 10. A Pentatonix Christmas, Pentatonix But I thought 24k is under performance according to ATRL.
sadnews Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 ? ifpi album list has always been 'physical shipment'(+digital sales) chart. it's nothing new. some of adel's retail sales comes from 2015's shipment. that's all.

The reason is method - it's shipment sales, not retail. 25 was overshipped in 2016; it's not a bad thing - record labels prefer overship album more than manufactured new CDs every month. Lemonade also was overshipped but in 2017.

Of course it is not overshipped as 25 but still - it's normal thing

I've been watching her sales frequently on this: http://www.buzzanglemusic.com/charts/albums/ She always charts digitally, but hasn't been in the chart for physicals for quite a while. Idk about outside of the US.
sadnews Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) it is not overshipped. they always make x2~x3 of expected first week sales to the store. (nowadays more likely x2) it is how distribution works. you can't expect same/similar number between shipment and retail to customer sales. adel's 25 was blockbuster album that expected sell well through the next year. so they shipped bigger number because it did huge number in first week, first month, and did sold its 2015 17.4m shipment and got additional shipment in 2016. that's all. there's no overshipment in her case. and actually there's no overshipment case nowadays due to small overall sales and small physical sales.
