luckystrike Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 The Kill: this song is kinda good, kinda drags a bit though, but I use :zach: telepatía: this is a serve, didn’t care a lot for her new album but this definitely slays :riri: Take Me Apart: this is good, the production is very interesting, I like it :minho: Isaac: this kinda sucked... that man was annoying and i just didn’t like the song overall :beytay: Swim: this is definitely better than Isaac, it’s quite nice although I’m not crazy over it :bebe: Perfect Crime: this is a bop yassss :asiandance: bitches: this is like bottom half on a godly album that is Blue Lips, but I guess it’s not the worst here :fewpoints:
clue Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 JESSIE WARE - THE KILL I'm personally kinda always just sticking around for the first part just to get to the build-up. The second half TAKES you there. Still a nice song overall, though. KALI UCHIS - TELEPATÍA I fear once you hear one of her songs, you've heard them all. This is pretty and inoffensive, but not my type of thing. It really bored me. KELELA - TAKE ME APART Kinda over this album, but this song is a classic. MADONNA - ISAAC ABSOLUTE classic. I kinda used to write this off when I first got into Madonna, but this is definitely a highlight on the album. She was basically getting back in touch with her Kabbalah roots from ROL. Her mind..... Literally such a fun track. MADONNA - SWIM I used to not like this, GASP! But it has grown on me in a HUGE way. Definitely a career highlight. TINASHE - PERFECT CRIME If I wanna hear The Weeknd's "Secrets", I'll listen to it. Tove Lo - Bitches This sounds like a classic, NGL!!!!!!! Love the production. Navyofbadgals Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Jessie Ware - The Kill One of the best tracks on WYP. Very beautiful and somewhat haunting. Like a silent killer almost, it slowly but surely gets better throughout the song. Maybe not as gripping as some of the other highlights on WYP, but it has its own other qualities as well. Very neat Kali Uchis - Telepatía CLEAR standout on that album. a SMASH in the making me thinks. It's very beautiful Kelela - Take Me Apart honestly electro ish albums always seem to age super poorly but this album just keeps on getting better with time There's a certain level of genius here me thinks Madonna - Isaac time to be controversial and say that I barely like any madonna songs <3 I can acknowledge the classics here and there and the undeniable impact she had, but she just ain't for me. This song suffers a dreadfully long and awkward intro. After that it's.. interesting but it's not really gripping to me. Madonna - Swim It's better than Isaac.. I'll keep it at that. I've already seen plenty of people love it so <3 Tinashe - Perfect Crime very cute, although one of the more basic offerings of SFY. It's nice tho, nothing really here that I hate but it's no winner for me Tove Lo - Bitches I overplayed this so it doesn't hit as hard as it used to do but it's nice. Not my favorite on BL but it's a nice lil moment Spoiler @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @touya kinomoto @Staryu
Staryu Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Jessie Ware - The Kill - Boring, my least fave on WYP Kali Uchis - Telepatía - Cute, kinda boring Kelela - Take Me Apart - A classic Madonna - Isaac - I've always been very intrigued by this song, its a dark bop, love the production as well Madonna - Swim - Love the production of this song, makes me think of waves and the ocean and currents, very peaceful song too Tinashe - Perfect Crime - A bop, little basic but I love a little basic Tove Lo - Bitches - First time hearing this, I really enjoyed it tbh, fun bop
miguel Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 miguel's critiques The Kill - there are only a few songs I use from her, and even those aren't all that great. This is bad, boring and unremarkable. Was SO tired of it by the end of it. Telepatía - this is a cute little bop, i use :lilbit: Take Me Apart - Kelela hardly ever misses production-wise, absolutely love the build-up throughout the song Isaac - to put it nicely, this is NOT for me :kii6: Swim - i mean better than Isaac but ehm, still not something I would ever listen to again Perfect Crime - I explored better Tinashe options for this round alone. This is cute and better than a few other songs here but i'm lowkey mad you got Tinashe banned with this. bitches - ahhhhhhh, this absolute BOP. @luckystrikespread your legs, I'll do the same, already c*ming
Fruity Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Jessie Ware - The Kill: this smooth + breathy disco sound is a wonderful direction for her. the song is beautiful and vibey. the gradual escalation as it progresses is quite gorgeous, actually. a wonderful penultimate track leading into RWYA. this is definitely one of my favourite albums of 2020, absolutely zero skips Kali Uchis - Telepatía: this album was a one listen job for me, most likely never to return. having said that, this was definitely nice. i'm pleasantly impressed. unfortunately it's probably going to fade into the background of this round/slip to the bottom of my ranks, sorry to say. it's not remarkable in any way but it is lovely Kelela - Take Me Apart: stunning all round, a great choice from a great album. TMA is on a similar level to WYP for me. this is a sex jam that definitely rivals body party (my #1 from the last round). it's silky smooth and the genre hovers in this fascinating futuristic realm somewhere between R&B and drum n bass Madonna - Isaac: maybe it was too ahead of its time for certain people... and apparently still is. this track is beyond incredible and definitely a career highlight. the cultural fusion is genius, i would even say. the rabbi makes the song idc idc. but yes, i fear i would never send it myself because it is a controversial sound. good luck to you Madonna - Swim: wonderful song. the instrumentation is absolutely gorgeous, as are the chilling vocals Tinashe - Perfect Crime: cute but cute next to all this gorgeous? yes we all love this album but if we're being honest this song is a bit faceless. anyone could've recorded it. tinashe does it well tho! Tove Lo - Bitches: it's a decent choice. overall I like this song. however i will say her vocal is a bit weak which I don't enjoy (especially in those verses) and i don't know if she completely pulls off the bad bitch attitude presented here. however this will probably get a middling rank from me because the sound is more interesting than tinashe and kali
Rence Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Jessie Ware - The Kill it’s cute but it’s not something I’ll listen again after this round Kali Uchis - Telepatía kinda boring but it’s still cute Kelela - Take Me Apart not a fan of the chorus but everything else is great Madonna - Isaac I enjoy this more than I did before :minho: Madonna - Swim she’s good but she’s no Isaac Tinashe - Perfect Crime I agree with Fruity that it could have been anyone’s song but that doesn’t mean it’s bad, I love it tbh :riri: Tove Lo - Bitches well it’s a fun bop
Auburn Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 some of the ageists in here anyway, critiques coming in a sec
Sanguine Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Jessie Ware - The Kill: I'm not a huge Jessie fan but this is a highlight on the album for me. The production is pretty captivating Kali Uchis - Telepatía: Her voice ruins everything she puts out, and this was pretty unremarkable even without that considered Kelela - Take Me Apart: Another Kelela song another WIN, I see Madonna - Isaac: It's no "Illuminati" Madonna - Swim: It's no "Bitch I'm Madonna (feat. Nicki Minaj)" Tinashe - Perfect Crime: Bit tired of these SFY songs, this is still fine and will get a decent rank from me though Tove Lo - Bitches: Bop!
Auburn Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 JESSIE WARE - THE KILL I forgot how much I liked this in context of the album, good pick KALI UCHIS - TELEPATÍA hmm, while I do love this album, I think the songs should be consumed as a whole, and on it’s own it’s not serving everything I want it to KELELA - TAKE ME APART it’s great, and yeah I agree that it has aged very well for an electronic song MADONNA - ISAAC this is a slay, this is art, this is beauty MADONNA - SWIM this song was sent to earth from heaven by god herself *moki worship.gif* TINASHE - PERFECT CRIME yasssss, I love this, my second fave on the album I think TOVE LO - BITCHES big big bop, I wish it was a bit longer, but def one of my faves from that album (although this round is very tough) overall a great round for me, I would have accepted any of these songs being sent tbh Spoiler @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @touya kinomoto @Staryu
thecptz Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 Jessie Ware - The Kill anyone who hates this album and this song is ugly and i don't wanna talk to them giggles anyways, this song is such a great song.. ive grown to appreciate them after i kinda eh about it when i first listened to it its just so complex and dramatic and i dig every second of it Kali Uchis - Telepatía mhmmmm exactly the horniness from this song. we love a sexphone moment, a cyber sex i think this is one of my faves from her latest project. love her voice and love everything about this! its such a vibe Kelela - Take Me Apart the production is absolutely the standout from the track.. i enjoyed that part of the song a lot but as a whole like together with everything, i feel a bit mixed like its okay i guess? not rlly that impressed. Madonna - Isaac giggles madonnas discog is a hit or miss for me and this is just not it, also its too long and for what sobs bagels ? baby z Madonna - Swim yes i also agree with bagels on this one that it is better than isaac however, it still didn't do much to me and i was listening to it and just waiting for it to kinda be over the bridge is great tho, gotta give u that x Tinashe - Perfect Crime quick, whats better than me? but i don't give a **** what you saying to me mhmm so true songs for you is such a great album and this is one of my faves from the album so i think u made a great decision picking this chorus's nice.. that opening verse is also nice a vibe Tove Lo - Bitches tbh i kinda prefer the remix to this so now that i listen to this song, i just expect the features to pop up its a bop and its still a great song and prob be high on my rankings but the remix ATE. Spoiler @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @touya kinomoto @Staryu
mokitsu Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 The Kill - i dig the atmospheric and brooding production, and some of the lyrics in here are just excellent. i really love this album front to back but this is one of the songs that i appreciate more in the album context - it doesn't really work for me in this isolated format. telepatía - always loved this album and i was sad it slipped under the radar but finally this song seems to be picking up steam and that's great for her. this song bops but at the same time it's quite reductive? it sounds a lot like after the storm. Take me apart - absolutely masterful from start to finish. Jam City did his magic on this production - it's so rich, and it really creates its own world in four minutes. it's so earthy and interesting in a natural disaster kind of way, it reminds me of tectonic plates colliding and volcanoes erupting.. and i also LOVE the expression "take me apart", it's sensual but also vulnerable. really a mystical song. Isaac - i never cared for this i appreciate the cultural significance but it sounds so weird and clunky to me. Swim - my mind is always a bit turned off when this comes on because the EXCELLENCE of drowned world leaves me numb and paralyzed. however this is really an interesting song, really macabre and depressing when you think of it? my interpretation of it is someone committing suicide but i always assumed it was a lighter song. i really love the water-y, boards of canada'd production and how it connects to the themes Perfect crime - yeah it's a bit basic and derivative as some people have pointed out, but i think she really won with these lyrics. it's full of contradictions - she has a defeatist attitude about the breakup, but still wants him back and also wants to move on without him. it's an incredible spiral of thoughts of someone who's not okay at all and goes through unhealthy coping mechanisms to try and move on. even when she's singing about shaking her ass she sounds one second away from crying which honestly same. love this song, helped me a lot, and it's incredible bitches - sometimes you just need a really well crafted pop song to channel your hornyness and no one does them like tove. this production is everything and her delivery and lyrics are so commanding and confident that it's hard to avoid contagion. great round methinks @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @touya kinomoto @Staryu
smholiv Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @touya kinomoto @Staryu The Kill : moody, dark, atmospheric. her voice works so well here too, and the lyrics back it up. not only is it a vibe but as the song progresses i get more and more into the universe that it creates. like that sense of immersion is next level. i saw that it was something from this artist and was scared i was going to have to fake smile through a soft rock song but this really impressed me. Telepatía : someone once said her music works better with spanish and.. i feel like this is a good example of that? in a lot of ways this is reminiscent of her general ~sound as a whole, its nothing too new, but something about it feels just a little bit more in a good way. Take Me Apart : Kelela has always existed in this special realm between electronic and spacey R&B that really feels distinctly her. to be an artist and basically establish a signature style that stands out among the genre as a whole is an incredible feat. it can be easy for these kinds of sounds to feel dated quick, like they're symbols of a certain time, but this song just has the right amount of sci-fi-ness to it's production that makes it feel timeless, like an epic Isaac : you could say this is the epitome of like late 90s-00s Madonna. it's indulgently melodramatic and theatrical, but the production is surprisingly holding up. i like that this album of dancefloor bops had some serious moments to it. i wouldn't listen to this willingly, but its a cool take in the context of the album, just not something that feels significant to me. Swim : everyone says this album is a standard for pop, and i do think its a cool concept. there's really interesting ideas here... for that time. this song feels a lot like Isaac oddly enough, its got the same vibe to it, yet sort of feels like a product of its time. I won't pick between the two since they're literally equal to me. Perfect Crime : as much as i want to root for Tinashe/Songs For You i won't deny i got tired of the album kind of fast. songwise, i like it enough - enough to actually feel like revisiting the album rn - but at the same time i still feel like i'm missing something. like something is just quite not clicking yet Bitches : biggest thing i can't vibe with when it comes to Tove is her vocal delivery. something about it feels so... whatever to me. this song is short and fun, we like that. -- strong round, tough competition
smholiv Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 maybe ill finally listen to ROL or whatever

Overprotected Posted February 21, 2021 Author Posted February 21, 2021 Spoiler The Kill - Amazing song whew I usually skip it to get to Remember Where You Are but yeah I’m just now realizing its greatness Telepatía - It’s a bop but I do gotta agree that on its own it doesn’t really stand out that much, still nice to listen to but yeah Take Me Apart - The production is amazing yeah, Arca did her thing, the song itself isn’t that memorable to me but I do like the bridge! Isaac - This feels like cultural appropriation… I don’t know which culture she’s appropriating but she’s doing it... Swim - One of my favorites from ROL I think, I really love the ambient production and electric guitar :winniepoor: Perfect Crime - One of my favorites from SFY but I’m not stanning as hard as I did back in 2020 hmm, still a banger though! Bitches - I thought I wouldn't like this after the two songs from her that were sent before but this actually goes off a bit Spoiler @Fruity @Rence @Sanguine @luckystrike @miguel @touya kinomoto @Staryu Only 1 bad song wow good job!!
