20. Waxahatchee, “Lilacs”

For whatever reason Waxatchee would make my countdowns in the bottom half but this the one, finally. It is a song about playing out a repetitive cycle of self-doubt but sounds so delicate and stores hope.

19. Thundercat, “Dragonball Durag”

Smooth, lushes, tongue-in-cheek and full of personality. Sounds so romantic right? Until you deep dive into the humorous lyrics; Thurdercats shtick that just seems to work. He’s too down to earth.

18. Chloe x Halle, “Ungodly Hour”

Don’t you just love when two different worlds collide and make magic? CXH’s heavenly vocals on top of Disclosure’s bounce was the surprise sound we did not know we needed in 2020.

17. Lady Gaga, “Rain On Me (feat. Ariana Grande)”

Bottoms anthem. It’s no “Telephone” but she’s cute and twinky.

16. Dua Lipa, “Break My Heart”

The pause and goes, the buildup, the chords, the guitars, the vocals. Disco pop princess done did it again.

15. Phoebe Bridges, “I Know The End”

The first half to me is honestly a 6 for me. But you know I love a damn build up, this one here restores my energy and it sounds something out of an old Sufjan Stevens record.

14. Perfume Genius, “On the Floor”

Has so many elements of an anthem. A happy, bouncy cut with shimmering vocals. Call it '80s pop.

13. Jenevieve, “Baby Powder”

So delicate, so soft, just like baby powder indeed from the vocals and the overall feel. It’s like Tennis meets Solange. Such great replay value with this one. Jenevieve is a new girl to look out for.

Spoiler

12. Christine and the Queens, “People, I’ve Been Sad

twen·ty-twen·ty

/ˌtwen(t)ēˈtwen(t)ē/

Definition: People, I’ve Been Sad. But yeah, this song is just ugh.

11. Cardi B, “WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)”

The iconic music video, the juxtaposition between Cardi and Megan’s cadence, the nastiness, THE GIRLS ARE DANCING, the girls had everyone in FUMES.

10. Gorillaz, “Désolé (feat. Fatoumata Diawara)”

This is less energetic than “Momentary Bliss” but the beat is still groovy enough to make you bop and it packs a nostalgic feel. Amazing backing vocal performance.

09. Moses Sumney, “Cut Me”

Moses’ voice is so alien, so mystic, love the way he uses it. Love his animated runs & falsetto, and arrangements that follow the pattern of the epic horns here. Moses makes you feel all the pain throughout the record and restores your ease at the end.

08. The Weeknd, “After Hours”

I’m with the GRAMMYS, but not really, but couldn’t care less… this was chef’s kiss of a The Weeknd record I want to hear though. The journey on here is worth the ride.

07. Yves Tumor, “Super Stars”

He has become one of my favorite artists over the past 3 years. What a simple but beautiful ****ing guitar number here.

06. Tame Impala, “Breathe Deeper”

I was once scared that Tame Impala would fall off, he did slightly. But reeled me back in with “Breathe Deeper,” which puts me in a trance. Oh, and that outro? What an outro.

05. Rina Sawayama, “Xs”

POP. PERFECTION. with a great message. That is all. Sidenote: Am I the only one that hears instrumental similarities in Danity Kane’s “Touching My Body,” is that a thing?

04. Megan Thee Stallion, “Savage REMIX (feat. Beyoncé)”

One of the greatest female remix/collaborations in modern day history. New lyrics, new beat changes, switches between the artists, both artists holding their own - Bey is a rap girl, ‘cause that’s all she does besides eating these days. This is how you do it ladies and gents. Amplify an already existing hit, don’t be lazy like the other bitches from last year.

03. Dua Lipa, “Levitating”

Before I knew this was a single or knew how much this track is loved, I just knew this was something special. This is a house party you do not want to end.

02. Chloe x Halle, “Do It”

The most melodic-chilliest turn up songs about getting ready for a girls’ night out. Such a simplistic track and the subject matter isn’t the most innovative, yet when you peel it, you recognize it is not all that much basic. You got a trap&B baseline, sparkly synths, Chloe rap-sings and then Halle swoops in with pop hooks and expressive R&B arrangements. All these different ingredients give this track a new life.

01. Chloe x Halle, “Forgive Me”

These were my babies for quite some time, but this was the ONE, the dark sister contrast to “Do It.” When I tell you, these girls are fully grown now! The hard-hitting instrumentals & bass, the pain and anger you feel from their voices, the delivery is c.u.n.t.. This is where they became stars and the rest was history. They write and produce their own music and maximize their vocal abilities, their range, their harmonies, their balances, and both can do what the other can if and whenever they want to so they leave you with a surprise in every performance. They’re dangerous to the music industry.

Chloe x Halle really did that! :clap3:

Just listened to that Jenevieve song and it's really good.

That top 10 is nasty! And certainly an interesting #1. I don't think I've seen many lists with Forgive Me on it (or at least over Do It and Ungodly Hour).

Glad someone else hasn't entirely given up on Tame Impala (and Breathe Deeper is one of my faves from the album!). Bunch of good **** all throughout but that's to be expected! Wish you did an albums list but I'll take what I can get :clap3::clap3:

Gonna give the Jenevieve song a spin soon cuz that caught my eye.

Whew so many goodies here, so lemme just try to highlight a few:

Happy to see Tonight by The 1975 here; If You're Too Shy is still my top pick from that album but I really adore Tonight and that other song they had with the chorus backing it.

c2.0 being finally higher on someone's list YAAAAS. Risk It a good song too!
