Maddox Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 (edited) Unfortunately I couldn't finish last year's list, maybe i will for this one?? Who knows... As usual, I will post my best of this year's TV (and music) Surprisingly enough, it's been a good year TV wise, which i didn't expect tbh (granted i haven't watched much shows compared to last year but still...) Stay tuned!!! Edited December 23, 2020 by Maddox
Ewan Chaos Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 I didn't really watch much TV this year (or at least anything new lol), but I'll try to follow along & perched for the music!

Maddox Posted December 23, 2020 Author Posted December 23, 2020 Best TV of 2020: (sorry i rushed with the write ups but i wanted to finish it unlike last time so) 10. My Brilliant Friend (S2) - HBO Basically a season showcasing how men ain't **** lol. Beautifully filmed of course (the Ischia/Lenu's uni episodes are highlights). Puts into perspective how education is your only viable path from a merciless life. 9. Babylon Berlin (S3) - Netflix With a succession of murders involving a movie set, a Phantom of the Opera like villain, mob drama, economic anxiety, lush parties, and the rise of Nazism. There's never a boring moment on this series which i quite admire! Looking forward to S4! 8. Kidding (S2) - Showtime Showtime butchered this show's run hence the inevitable cancellation, nonetheless there were some beautiful moments on this season such as a glimpse of the actual Jeff Pickles show, the premiere's (?) musical episode where Jeff reconciles with his sinister tendencies, Deirdre trying to prove herself she can manage the show on her own, and poor old Sebastian dealing with his dementia. This was a hidden gem unlike anything else on TV, it'll be deeply missed! 7. Search Party (S3) - HBO Max Honestly, i had some worries about the new season. Will it live up to the hype of the first two seasons? Will the “obnoxious New York millennials” genre still be a thing in 2020? Thankfully, the third season (which has already been filmed like two/three years ago) answered those questions in such a clever way. Very funny, great performances across the cast, special mention to Shalita Grant who fit so effortlessly into the show. The part about Dory weaponizing her identity to get out of jail, and the morbid obsession with random nobodies just because of their ~chic vibe ring very true to this day... 6. Corporate (S3) - Comedy Central Don’t understand why it was cut to just 3 seasons (and six episodes at that).. Definitely had more to say; should’ve been moved to HBO Max. The episode about Jake’s depression and Grace’s inability to properly socialize with her coworkers hit me real hard! Will truly miss this show a lot. 5. The New Pope - HBO Sorrentino addressing the dangers of fanaticism in such an artsy fartsy way Made me change my mind about how need more film auteurs doing TV tbh 4. Normal People - Hulu If you go on twitter, you must’ve definitely come across the “sex scenes are pointless in movies” discourse. And I feel like this show disputes that ridiculous claim perfectly. I mean... in TV's case, it's already sexless!!! So it was refreshing to watch a sex scene that doesn't intend to be glamorous, but feels more intimate and romantic and awkward AND hot. My favorite part of the show is documenting Marianne's insecurity/self hatred problems that reflects on her choice of partners and intimacy issues because she never received any genuine affection from her closed ones. So when you see how Connell treats her along the way, it just warms your heart lol. Anyway loved it! Solid chemistry from the two leads, great cinematography (the Italy episode was amazing)! 3. Better Call Saul (S5) - AMC This season is basically the answer for when I was wondering why was I even bothering with this show back when I started S1. Well... It has Saul’s version of “I’m the one who knocks” speech, It’s has the handsomest eye candy villain on TV Tony Dalton, and it made me more anxious about the fate of the Kim Wexler. Man… I am really not ready for the ending 2. How to with John Wilson - HBO Making New York cool and hip became such a tired genre that you may (or may not) have noticed so many folks advocating for shows to be centered somewhere else other than Brooklyn basically. High Maintenance remained as the one show now that tried to make a case for how unique it might be but nobody watches it so no one cared, until How To just swooped right in with its fresh documentary like concept. The beauty of this is how it shifts from one concept/location to another, makes you meet some new people, never condescending to its subjects and always guarantees a sweet/heartwarming moment. It’s one of the loveliest shows yet and I’m glad it got renewed. 1. I May Destroy You - HBO Truly uncomfortable, blunt, emotional, goes to some very dark places but still moving. Never had Coel on my radar since i was not a huge fan of Chewing Gum but this show has completely changed my perception of her as tv writer. Questions about how to approach consent, searching for emotional support and whether we can heal after trauma were dealt with in such a poignant matter. She never takes the predictable road of making her characters without accountability or flaws, but still gives them their due justice! Simply show of the year, unbeatable! Honorable Mention: The Crown The Queen's Gambit Brockmire Ted Lasso Kingdom The Good Fight Superstore Evil Ramy And others i might be forgetting lol
