ATRL Administrator Lee!! Posted December 29, 2020 Author ATRL Administrator Posted December 29, 2020 Lee's Best of 2020 - The Top 200 TV Series of 2020: #100 - #76 100) Amy Schumer Learns to Cook (Food Network) This is one show I never thought would exist, but this is 2020. With the pandemic raging, Food Network picked up Amy Schumer Learns To Cook, a cooking series which follows Amy at home with her husband, son and nanny as she learned to cook. Her husband is a trained chef and they put together all different kinds of dishes. There were moments it felt like Amy was learning, while most of the time she was cracking jokes and just happy with the food they were making that she got to eventually eat. Lots of the dishes had meaning to them, while others were her husbands idea and used items like fennel that she isn't a big fan of. It aired two seasons and got nominated for an Emmy! 99) The Walking Dead (AMC) (Last Year: 73) The Walking Dead was in the process of finishing season 10 when the pandemic slowed the post production down that the series had to push the final episode of the season to the fall. A lot happened in the season with some big deaths and our heroes all put in different deadly situations. We saw another major character depart the series, and one return after an absence. The show also got a six episode additional order to the season so the season will officially wrap in early 2021. It was also renewed for an expanded final season, plus announced a spinoff series which will air after the main series wraps. The universe is ever expanding with two spinoffs already on the air! 98) Emily in Paris (Netflix) Emily in Paris has a lot of charm and its easy to see why so many people fell in love/hate with the show. It's extremely bingeable and has a very similar style and pacing to Younger. The series was originally going to air on Paramount with Younger, then Younger stayed at TV Land and they sold this to Netflix. It was enjoyable but I rolled my eyes so many times. You really have to suspend common events and reality to stay fully in the world. She has so many potential lovers and its likes to stereotype. It was renewed for a second season and I think I'm most excited just to see the Parisian backdrop again. It was beautiful. 97) Avenue 5 (HBO) This is another series that lots of people loved/hated. Avenue 5 follows a luxury space ship that was on a trip around the solar system when a catastrophic event causes the ship to go off course, extending their time in space and causing those on board to panic and become upset. In order to make it through, the captain has to find ways to get those on board to help settle the mood, make things better for everyone, and potentially find ways to get everyone back home sooner. The series comes from the creative team behind Veep and has very similar dry, sarcastic and subtle humor mixed in. It wasn't as funny, and it had its pacing issues. Characters were not very appealing, like Veep, but they had little redeeming or finny moments to make them as watchable. 96) Saved By The Bell (peacock) I've never seen the original Saved By The Bell series or any of the follow up series/movies. Going into the series blind, I wasn't sure what I was going to get. In my head I expected a Degrassi style High School comedy with dramatic elements. Instead, it felt like 30 Rock and Great News humor mixed with Wet Hot American Summer over the top, oblivious to reality humor. The preppy white high school is forced to take in new students from a more diverse school after it gets shut down and the students have to get used to the new normal. The original cast members who returned really felt unnecessary. The series shone when the kids were the main focus. I found myself laughing a lot. 95) Ghosts (HBO Max) I came about this series after looking up the cast of Dead Pixels. One of the roommates from Dead Pixels is the star of Ghosts so I decided to check it out. Ghosts follows a young couple who inherit an old decrepit mansion. They want to renovate it and potentially turn it into a hotel so they can make money off of it. What they don't know is that there are a bunch of ghosts who live in the house, all who died on the property throughout history. When she has a near death experience, she is suddenly able to see and communicate with the ghosts. They get into funny situations and all of the ghosts were hilaious and had some interesting past dramatic stories which were charming and heartfelt. The two seasons of the series aired in the US on HBO Max, and CBS has a potential remake pilot in the works. I'm interested in seeing if that goes to series. 94) The Duchess (Netflix) I didn't even know The Duchess existed until I saw some people on twitter talking about the series. I assumed it was a British series but was happy to see that it was a Netflix, British series so I was able to watch. The series follows a single mom as she navigates live in the UK with her daughter. They have a really close relationship. She wants to give her daughter a sibling so she decides to go to her baby daddy, a washed up former boy band member, and try to get him to agree to giving their daughter a sibling. She also has a boyfriend and wants to hide it from him. She's dysfunctional and the style is very similar to fellow British comedy Catastrophe. It never gets as deep, but it's really funny at times and I hope it gets renewed for a second season. 93) Tuca & Bertie (Netflix) Tuca & Bertie was released last year, and I didn't get the chance to watch it initially. Shortly after its release, the series was cancelled. That made me sad and I figured I'd leave it on my list until I had a free moment because there was no rush. This year, adult swim announced that they picked up a second season of the series to air in 2021. This made me really happy and I finally had the time to watch it. The series follows Tuca and Bertie as they navigate growing up and their changing friendship/relationships in their lives. it dealt with a lot of real world issues in a clever and smart way. I really enjoyed it and I'm so glad we're going to be be getting a second season now! Netflix were foolish to let this one go. 92) The Kominsky Method (Netflix) The Kominsky Method was never really on my radar, but it always ended up getting nominated for awards so I put it on my shows to eventually watch list. With the pandemic and me being able to catch up and watch other series on my list, I eventually got to this. The series follows two lifelong friends as they get older. One loses their wife and he has to figure out how to go about life without her. The other is there to support him and has his own crisis arise. He teaches an acting class and meets a woman who he grows close to. The series was renewed for a final third season, without Alan Arkin which is surprising. It'll be interesting to see how they wrap it up on top of that casting change. 91) Animaniacs (hulu) Growing up I was a big fan of Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain. When they announced the series would be coming back for two new seasons, I knew I would have to check the show out and see if it held up in today's world. I expected it to be very childlike since that's what I remember growing up. Instead I was pleasantly surprised to see that I probably missed a lot growing up because they tackle a lot of big picture issues and world events and skewer them in a clever way. All done with a cute guise, they tackle Russian politics, the overdone idea of reboots in Hollywood, and election politics. Hopefully in the second season we can see more characters from the past return as we mostly got Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain shorts in every episode. 90) Love, Victor (hulu) Love, Victor is the spinoff TV series of Love, Simon which follows a closeted teen high schooler as he tries to grapple with his own sexuality and where he belongs in the world. He writes messages to Simon on instagram every day and he communicates back with him on his own experiences and advice on how to handle different situations. In the series he has a crush on a guy at the coffee shop, but ends up dating a girl in his class. I didn't really buy his chemistry with the guy and often found myself rooting and hoping that he would realize he might be bi. His connection with the girl was built up better, but she was only a stepping stone for Victor. The series was initially going to air on Disney+ and halfway through the series you can almost see a switch that is flicked where it becomes more grown up. 89) F is for Family (Netflix) F is for Family is an animated sitcom following a family in the 70s and the other adults who live on the same cul-de-sac. The series is very timely and bucks today's norms being crude and sexist while never showing that they are funny or good in any way. The main character Frank struggles to find his place in a changing world where his wife is trying to find her own passion, her kids are growing up and pushing back against him and he runs into people who conflict with him like his own father. I watched the first season when it came out, but fell behind after. With the extra time this year, I was able to catch up in time before the final season premieres in 2021. Its really good and different than the other animated series I watch. 88) The Rookie (ABC) (Last Year: 66) The Rookie follows a rookie cop, who just made the age cutoff as he learns how to be a cop along with the other rookies in his class. They make a bond which helps each and everyone of them. They each also learn from the training officers who all have different styles of teaching and ways of being cops. The series had a big story line running through it with a pretty big twist and big cliffhanger at the end of season 2. They said they were going to tackle the current issues with policing in the season so it'll be interesting to see how they go about that. It has good drama and good subtle humor. It's easy to watch and I'm excited for season 3 in a few days. 87) Worst Cooks in America (Food Network) (Last Year: 93) Worst Cooks aired three seasons this year. The first season was a regular season with Anne Burrell and Alton Brown. Anne's been on the show since it started and Alton was on the show for the first time. He struggled to teach his recruits and his brash style wasn't perfectly suited for the series, but I enjoyed it still. There are always great personalities on the series. The second season of the year was the annual celebrity edition which saw some celebrities learn how to cook. The final one of the year featured Alex Guarnaschelli who is perfectly suited for the series. Shes a great teacher and her style of humor along with her getting overwhelmed a lot provided some great TV. There was also a Thanksgiving special which featured Carla Hall who will be the new teacher with Anne when the show returns in January. 86) Geordie Shore (MTV UK) (Last Year: 56) Geordie Shore returned for a new season this year, but only one for the first time in years. Usually we get two seasons at a minimum, but with the pandemic, they weren't able to film more. The series was supposed to premiere ealier in the year, but didn't get on the air until later. The cast saw some new faces, including a fomer X Factor UK finalist, and some long time housemates leave the series. It was a very transitional season with a lot of new dynamics and the makings of a great cast for a follow season. Hopefully the cast will stay the same between the seasons and they'll be able to film again soon because I miss these radgies a lot! 85) Diary of a Future President (Disney+) Diary of a Future President follows a young girl as she navigates middle school and coming of age. It's all framed by the fact that she is the president in the future and what we're seeing is the President version thinking back upon her times growing up from her diary. The series also follows her mother as she navigates her relationship with her boyfriend. Her husband died and she feels guilty for moving on. We also follow her older brother who is trying to figure out who he is also. He deals with internal struggles. It has a lot of heart and was more than just a kids series. It's cute and there's a lot to enjoy here. 84) New Amsterdam (NBC) (Last Year: 43) New Amsterdam is a medical drama which follows a group of doctors at a hospital in NY. The new head of the hospital shakes things up and tries to make it more patient first rather than the bottom line. The season was cut short due to the pandemic and even had to cut an episode from airing because it dealt with an outbreak similar to what we're all living through. This lead to an awkward missing episode which they had to explain since it introduced a new doctor to the series. It hasn't been on the air yet since the shutdown, and will be back sometime next year. Transplant and now Nurses fill in New Amsterdam's time slot in the mean time. 83) We Bare Bears (Cartoon Network) (Last Year: 96) We Bare Bears aired its final original episode last year, but this year they released the We Bare Bears movie which acted as a series finale for the animated series following the lovable bears we've come to know over the years. The movie was really deep, dealing with separating families and caging bears who don't look like others, and heart felt, really tugging at all emotions. I was caught off guard how good it was. It also left me sad that we won't be following Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear anymore. They announced a spinoff series following the baby versions of the characters who we've seen over the years, but it'll be a separate series not completely tied in. 82) Earth to Ned (Disney+) Earth to Ned is one of the best surprises to come out of Disney+ as we likely wouldn't have gotten this series or one like it. Earth to Ned follows an alien who was sent to Earth to destroy it, but instead falls in love with the planet, the culture, and late night talk shows. He decides to start his own late night talk show and beams up celebrities to talk about different themes and human activities in order to teach him more about us before he destroys the planet. The puppet they devised is huge and Ned has a lot of personality. The second part of season one releases New Years day and I can't wait to see who he beams up next! 81) Transplant (NBC) Transplant is a Canadian medical drama which follows a group of doctors at a hospital who have to deal with all kinds of medical cases. The series follows Bashir, a Syrian refugee who lives with his younger sister. He applies to the Hospital and after a medical crisis proves his talents, he begins to work there, balancing his past medical experience overseas with the medicine they deal with in Canada. The drama is great and it's not as soapy as some medical dramas. The cases are unique and it's nice to see a medical system outside of the US and how they do medicine. It was renewed in Canada before it aired here, and NBC announced they picked up the second season, likely to air next summer. 80) Batwoman (CW) (Last Year: 89) Batoman really found its voice in the second half of the first season. They were able to tie in all of the characters and make it feel like a full superhero series. It also probably had the best post-crisis run. It still felt awkward at times, and Ruby was never a great actress. There were some strange moments in the season, and it wrapped short, but in a pretty good place to set up a second season. Over the summer it was announced Ruby would not be returning, and they cast a new character to take over the Batwoman mantle going forward. It will be strange to see how they tie her into the world we already know, when Kate was the one who brought all the character together since they were all pretty much her family. 79) DC Super Hero Girls (Cartoon Network) (Last Year: 92) DC Super Hero Girls is an animated series which follows a group of DC comic characters as they deal with high school and saving the city from crime. Their personal lives often intersect with the criminals they run into. They even tie in other heroes who attend the school like The Flash and Green Lantern. It's really fun and a cute show. It's different than the Teen Titans Go comedy but is similar in that its not a straightforward comic adaptation. The first season finale aired this past week and hopefully season two won't be far behind. 78) black-ish (ABC) (Last Year: 42) black-ish took on lots of real world issues again this year. We got episodes directly involved with the ongoing pandemic. We got episodes tackling racism and policing. We saw a lot of interpersonal story lines including Junior getting a serious girlfriend, the twins adapting to growing up, and Dre's parents rekindling their past love for each other. They're even exploring a third spinoff series which would follow Dre's parents with the working title of "old-ish". that could be interesting. Either way, I'll be watching all of the series which come out of this funny and topical series. 77) Geordie OGs (MTV UK) (Last Year: 45) After years of partying, debauchery and tears, many of the former housemates from Geordie Shore came together for this series which chronicles their lives after leaving the house. We see their love lives grow and break. We see the birth of some of their children and we see how they are doing now with their new jobs and businesses. This year we got two seasons, one before the pandemic and one after. In the first season, Sophie joined the cast along with Gaz, Marnie, Holly and Aaron. In the second season, Gaz and Sophie left. We saw Marnie deal with post pregnancy complications. We saw Aaron deal with his MMA career, girlfriend and birth of his child. With Holly, we see her relationship grow and them plan a wedding. It's great to see where our favorites are now after Geordie Shore and I hope we get more episodes next year! 76) Arrow (CW) (Last Year: 83) Arrow's final season was essentially an extended Crisis event series which saw Oliver make the ultimate sacrifice for the universe. the final run of episode really did wonders for the show as it brought it back to what made it great in the early seasons. Aside from the poorly planned and awkwardly placed potential spinoff series backdoor pilot episode, the final episodes we got this year were great. I had long railed against the show as time went on for terrible plotting, story lines and how they juggled the characters on the show. This time I was genuinely happy where it ended. There's been no word still on Green Arrow and The Canaries, the potential spinoff, and I will be sad to not see Laurel anymore, but I won't miss Dinah or Mia at all. No one wants to watch them, let's be real.

I liked that original characters were in it but I saw all of the originals since I grew up on those. Love, Victor was adorable and im so happy it gets season 2 The Rookie s2 was better than s1 I am sure curious what they will do with new Batwoman considering it ended with Bruce coming back but this new Batwoman has no relation to any of the origina Kate Kane's friendships. Her father, her ex, Alice, Luke Fox etc have nothing to do with her so i am curious Arrow was good i am glad it finally ended. I still hope Arrow and The Canaries gets picked up. A TV show centered around Mia, Laurel and Dinah would be fun!
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 30, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 30, 2020 i should check out love, victor and love, simon tbh
D/X Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 (edited) Love Victor I agree that I thought that they were going for the bi route And they definitely could've improved Benji's background + chemistry with Victor, but I still ship them. They are cute together. I haven't watched We Bare Bears recently, but might check it out recent episodes. Edited December 30, 2020 by D/X
ATRL Administrator Lee!! Posted December 30, 2020 Author ATRL Administrator Posted December 30, 2020 Lee's Best of 2020 - The Top 200 TV Series of 2020: #75 - #51 75) A Million Little Things (ABC) (Last Year: 65) A Million Little Things was back for even more drama this year. We saw Eddie and Katharine deal with his drinking issues, a terribly injury and their already rocky relationship. We saw Rome and Regina try to adopt a kid. We saw Gary and Maggie take a different direction. We see Delilah still trying to pick up the pieces and move forward after her husbands death. Lots of soapy drama and twists. It's good escapism, but it looks like they're going to be incorporating the pandemic head on when it returns in March. 74) The 100 (CW) (Last Year: 62) The 100 returned for its final season which saw the group all going full throttle trying to survive as usual. We see them deal with an existential threat. We see them deal with a thought dead enemy return for more blood. We saw people have to make terrible decisions to ensure the survival of the human race. We saw time jumping and planet jumping. We saw the first half thrive and the second half fizzle with characters acting out of character and making really dumb choices. The ending was fine, but I didn't really think it was the way the series should have ended. It was too out there, even for a sci-fi series. Let's not even talk about that dumb big final death which was pointless in the end. 73) Coroner (CW) Coroner is a Canadian medical/cop drama which sees a woman whose husband dies in front of her change her life's direction. She leaves the hospital job to become the coroner. She investigates suspicious deaths and advocates for the dead to ensure that the ones who caused their death's pay for their crimes. She teams up with a detective and they work together. She has lots of mental health issues following her husbands death. She finds a new partner who has his own traumatic past, and her son and father have their own issues too. The series was picked up by the CW to fill the fall airwaves. Both seasons aired. They also picked up the already renewed third season to air likely in the summer at some point. 72) Dash & Lily (Netflix) Dash & Lily was a cute holiday series which followed two teens as they communicated via a red notebook with different dares and requests which ultimately bring the two strangers closer together. It felt like a holiday Hallmark/Lifetime/Netflix movie but expanded on and allowed to explore more in a series format. Over the 8 episodes, I was charmed by the cast and the story. The leads were charming and it was a perfect holiday series. I hope it will get renewed, but if it stays a limited series, I'll be happy with how it ends! 71) Doctor Who (BBC America) (Last Year: 57) Doctor Who was back for the 13th season this year which saw the Doctor and her companions go on even crazier adventures throughout space and time, trying to save those they could and protect the future and the past from alien threats. While still fun and always a good time, the story felt overly complicated and the episodes felt disconnected more so than they usually do. They also tried to his on topics that were too on the nose at points and felt more like checking off a list than a natural story. I'll watch this show until the end but hopefully the new season coming will be a bit more grounded and get back to the charming-ness that brought me in. 70) The Boys (Amazon Prime Video) The Boys was a series I knew I was going to eventually watch, but I didn't have the chance to get to it until this year. the show is violent and gritty and funny at times. The story is compelling and it's take on superheroes in a world where we all love super heroes was a cool take. I never got to read the comics it was based off of so it was nice going in not knowing much about it. While it was good, and everyone told me I'd love it, I didn't find it to be as good as I expected. I'm basing this off of the first season only, since that is all I was able to watch so far, but I hear the second season is even better! 69) Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access) Star Trek Picard picks up on Picards story now having left Starfleet full time. He finds himself drawn into a big conspiracy which he has to pursue on his own, forming his own team of misfits to get him where he needs in order to protect people. While I never watched any of the series he was on years ago, as a fan of Discovery, I knew I would be watching this series. It starts off very slow, but manages to pick up speed once they get off of Earth. While in space the story really begins to take shape the character become interesting and more developed. I can't wait to see where we go next and what adventures happen. 68) Lost in Space (Netflix) Lost in Space is a remake of the original Lost in Space series. While the original series was more comedic, this more dramatic version was really compelling and drew me in quick. I've been told to watch this one for a while now since I'm a big fan of space dramas. I'm so happy with what I found in the series. There is a great story about family, space and going head first into the unknown. The characters are compelling and are full of secrets which drive the story forward. It was renewed for a final season and with how things were left at the end of season 2, it should be a really exciting and crazy season. 67) The Flash (CW) (Last Year: 37) With Arrow gone, The Flash is the lightning rod series holding the Arrowverse together. With the show returning from Crisis, I was interested in seeing where the show would go now with so much more they can explore. I wasn't very happy with what we got, but the show was still fun and full of good comic book hero drama. With the pandemic cutting the season short, we never really got to see the team take on the main villain of this half of the season. She wasn't very compelling or interesting or devious honestly. Plus with the team now having to deal with the speed force issue, I wish we got more. They'll probably wrap up the past season early on in the new season (hopefully) and they can explore more interesting things after. 66) Modern Family (ABC) (Last Year: 67) Modern Family aired its final run of new episodes this year, ending the long running series after 11 solid seasons. While not as strong as the early seasons, they were able to bring it all back to what made the show so good in the beginning. They focused on the characters and their bond as family and all of the wacky situations they found themselves in. The series finale was a solid finale, pulling on heartstrings and really making me realize what I will miss about the show. It feels strange not having more episodes, but the show had a good run. 65) Perry Mason (HBO) Perry Mason is a prequel series to the original series which aired in the 50s and 60s. It follows Perry as a private investigator before he gets his license to practice law. He's rough around the edges, flawed and gritty. He's not the upright citizen the original series pegged him as. Throughout the season you see him grow into the man he's to become and see where he gets his talents from. The case of the season was strange but compelling. Tatiana Maslany did a great job along with Matthew Rhys. While originally billed as a limited series it was renewed for a second season. Going forward now that we've gotten a lot of his back story, we can focus on the cases more and it won't be as much of a drag. on the series which could be slow at times, especially in the beginning. Many times I felt like the show could have been its own original series, were it not for them having Perry in the series. 64) Normal People (hulu) Normal People wasn't a show I originally had on my radar but after hearing such great things about it I decided to give it a try. The series follows two people as their relationship fluctuates over the course of their lives. They come in and out at the wrong and right times, bringing them together as a couple and pulling them apart for other reasons. The two have such great chemistry and is a unique love story I don't think I've seen before on TV. The acting is really great and I would love to keep following them. The series was a one of limited series and I was surprised with how they left the characters. it left me wanting more. I can see why so many people loved the series. 63) You Me Her (?????) (Last Year: 41) You Me Her is is a comedic series which follows a polyamorous couple as they go through the ups ad downs of their relationship. The series was renewed by AT&T's Audience Network for a fifth and final season. Earlier in the year, AT&T announced they would be shutting down Audience Network and replacing it with an HBO Max preview channel, leaving You Me Her and their other original series without a home. Throughout the year, most of the series found new homes, but You Me Her had no luck. In Canada, they released the series over the summer and episode ended up on youtube. After waiting with still no news, I watched them on youtube. The final season is different than the others as their relationship struggles are on full display but the finale was so good and I wish we could keep following this couple. I hope it finds a new home in the US next year so everyone else can finish the story. 62) Shrill (hulu) (Last Year: 71) Shrill returned for season 2 this year and we saw Annie decide to take control of her life more and doing things for herself rather than pleasing everyone else around her. She puts her foot down on her relationship, giving her more of a say. With her job she decides to do what she wants to do more than being told what to do and ventures out. As quick as she pushes forward, things from her past begin to pull her back towards the person she was. We see her struggle with finding a balance of taking control and doing what's expected of her. The series was renewed for a third season which will be airing hopefully next year. With Aidy missing on SNL a bunch this season I think they're filming it. 61) Stargirl (CW) Stargirl was DC Universe's final original series on the now defunct streaming service. Before the service shut down and even before the series aired, they announced that they partnered with the CW to also air the series a day after releasing online on the network. At the end of the season it was announced that the series would be moving to the CW full time for Season 2. The series followed a young superhero come into her own after discovering that she can use the spear that she finds to stop criminals. She helps to create a super hero team with her classmates. They get pulled in too deep into a criminal conspiracy which is deadly and dark. The series had a really strong freshman series and I hope it can live up to it when it returns for season 2 on the CW. 60) DC's Legends of Tomorrow (CW) (Last Year: 51) Legends of Tomorrow evolves every season as they take on different themes and go after different kinds of criminals. The team also evolves. We have some members leave and other join with each season. This season was heavily focused on demons, while still staying silly and fun, and Constantine's relationship with Astra, a character we originally met when he had his series on NBC. While different than that series, we got lots of demons and taking down criminals in all time periods throughout history. Like with every season, we saw the departure of more characters midway through the season and at the end, with new characters already announced to be showing up for the new season when it returns next year. 59) Fresh Off the Boat (ABC) (Last Year: 38) Fresh Off the Boat aired its final episodes of the series this year as we saw the Huang family all move towards the future. We see Eddie and his brothers deal with growing up and relationships and friendships. We see Jessica and Louis deal with their business and their marriage along with who they are as Asians in the 90s in Florida. The series was able to tackle big issues over the year, while having fun in the small moments too. I'll miss this series a lot as I loved every episode and always left each one with a smile on my face. I hope we get to see more stories like theirs on our TVs. It was refreshing to watch their story and how they evolved over the years. 58) Stumptown (ABC) (Last Year: 91) Stumptown finished airing their freshman season and were renewed for a second season after being heavily on the bubble. With the pandemic driving up costs on set and pushing the start dates for filming, ABC reversed course and cancelled the series. It was a lot of emotional whiplash being happy to get more episodes only for them to be taken away. The series was really finding its stride as Dex was really killing it as a private investigator and the cases she got herself pulled into were really well done and compelling. I wish we could have gotten more funny adventures with her and the other guys on the show. I will miss this one. 57) Grey's Anatomy (ABC) (Last Year: 40) Grey's Anatomy went head first into the pandemic after having last season cut short due to the shut downs. We see the doctors and the characters we've come to love all deal with the pressing nature of the pandemic, all while dealing with their own personal drama which carried over from the previous season. They didn't' shy away from the serious nature of the virus even going as far as infecting some of the characters with the virus. We even got to see former cast members pop up as visions which were an extremely exciting and welcomed surprise. It'll be interesting to see how long they go with the pandemic, as in real life it doesn't appear it will be letting up any time soon still. They've done a good job with it and I really hope this isn't the final season as Ellen is only signed on through this season so far. 56) Good Trouble (Freeform) (Last Year: 23) Good Trouble aired the back half of its second season this year, having to push the third season due to not being able to film it earlier in the year. They have been filming it recently and it will be premiering in January after the delay. When we last saw the cast, they were all at different turning points in their lives. Some were having work related moments, some were relationship related, and others were figuring out who they are and how they fit into the world as a whole. The series tackles big issue moments, not shying away from what's going on in the real world, and showing how it affects us all, especially as coming of age young adults. The show is funny and dramatic and really good. I can't wait to see where we go next. 55) Bob Hearts Abishola (CBS) (Last Year: 63) Bob Hearts Abishola is such a charming love story between two unlikely people who find the best in each other. Bob softens the hard exteriors of Abishola while she makes him take stock of his life and his priorities. We see how their families influence the relationship and make them question things which ultimately make them a stronger couple. Each episode is funny and heartfelt and I always have a smile on my face watching this unlikely couple grow each week. For a series which partially takes place at a hospital, it didn't tackled the pandemic at all. It's a nice escape from the world we're in now. 54) Top Chef (Bravo) (Last Year: 47) Top Chef aired an All Stars season this year bringing back a great cast of contestants over the years. I knew most of them, having only started watching the series with season 12, and each chef could have honestly won the season at some point. There was some drama between the chefs, but for the most part they were friendly and competitive and put out some great dishes. I had some favorites which made it pretty far, and I was happy with the final chefs who made it to the finale. I was also EXTREMELY happy with the ultimate winner and they really deserved the win over the rest. It was a great season. They've been filming a new season which will premiere next year at some point and I can't wait for more! 53) All Rise (CBS) (Last Year: 70) All Rise follows a bunch of judges and lawyers as they navigate the legal system, trying to protect the innocent and put the guilty behind bars. Judge Carmichael always tries to give everyone the best trial they can get with the best representation they deserve. Everyone deserves their day in court. She's smart, funny and isn't afraid to push against the norms which plague the legal system. With the pandemic cutting the season short, they were one of the first series to air a zoom style episode to wrap up the season. My guess is that episode helped them get a second season renewal. When the show returned, they continued to live in the world we live in and we see how the pandemic has affected the legal system. I hope the show continues to get better as it has been and get a third season. 52) Grace and Frankie (Netflix) (Last Year: 82) Grace and Frankie returned for another hilarious season following the two friends as they continue to navigate life getting older and the struggles they run into as older women. We see them pursue another business adventure. We see Grace's relationship grow. We see Frankie torn between the two men she's come to love. We see Grace and Frankie butt heads again and push apart, but ultimately come together again. We see their relationships with their ex husbands and their kids. There as so many great and funny moments in the series I wish we could keep getting more seasons. They announced that season 7 would be the final season of the series. They were mid filming before everything shut down and I hope they were able to get it back up and running safely so we can have a true ending to the series. 51) Hilda (Netflix) (Last Year: 28) Hilda follows the adventures of a blue haired girl as she encounter different beasts and situations in her town. The series recently returned for its second season and I wasn't able to finish it completely yet but so far it's been just as good and fun and beautifully animated. Hilda runs into a new antagonist in the form of a local man who is trying to keep everything normal in town but he cant avoid running into the abnormal. They also announced that they've been working on a movie which will follow Hilda, her mom and her friends on a full length adventure. The show is so cute and charming and I hope more people find this series and the eventual movie so that we can keep getting more in the coming years!
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 31, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 31, 2020 is the 100 worth it? i've wanted to start it for a while but it has so many episodes
Bubble Tea Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Normal People is a cute show - I actually stopped watching it after a few eps, IDK why. It was cute but did it REALLY have me checking for the next EP? Not really. Loved the first three seasons of Grace & Frankie but... then I got over it too lol.

I love the humor.

D/X Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 Dash and Lilly was actually cute, and that comes from someone who hates rom-coms and holiday films.
ATRL Administrator Lee!! Posted December 31, 2020 Author ATRL Administrator Posted December 31, 2020 Lee's Best of 2020 - The Top 200 TV Series of 2020: #50 - #26 50) Superstore (NBC) (Last Year: 44) Superstore is one of the most consistently funny comedies I've watched. It always leaves me cracking up. Each character is so well defined and fleshed out in a cast that all gets their own moments to shine. With the pandemic cutting short America Ferrera's goodbye, the series brought her back for the first episodes of the new season. They also took on the pandemic head on as they are on the front lines of it by being an essential business. They were able to make something really dark, quite funny. They also announced that the show would be ending at the end of this season which seems premature. There is so much more to explore with these characters. They're plotting a potential spinoff for Cheyenne and her husband, but without the rest of the characters, why? 49) Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC) This musical series is such a gem. It's got so much charm,, heart and emotion built in. You wouldn't expect it when you hear the premise of the show. A young woman suddenly begins to hear peoples inner thoughts in the form of songs that they perform. Only she can see them. The story is so deep and rich and can be emotionally devastating at times. The acting was on point as was the singing. The new season starts next week. I've been putting off the screeners I have because I'm not ready to be emotionally devastated again but I can't wait. 48) Single Parents (ABC) (Last Year: 58) Single Parents was such a funny series. They were able to make a comedy about single parents into something really special. The stories were great. The humor was on point. Even the kids did a great job with the stories they led. I always looked forward to new episodes. ABC cancelled the series after two seasons and I'm still upset about that! The show had so much more to explore, especially with that emotional cliffhanger! The series could have been one of the greatest in recent years but here we are. I'll appreciate the episodes we did get! 47) High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Disney+) (Last Year: 34) The final episodes of the first season of HSMTMTS aired earlier this year. We got to see the students put on the performance of High School Musical for the high school and it was a great first season. I was surprised they got to the final performance so soon in the series run, but they established that each season would be a different musical that they would tackle. The series also did a holiday special where they performed some of their favorite holiday songs, the cast did some q&a's and we even got a sneak peak at a song that will be in the second season. Hopefully the second season will be coming early in the new year! I miss the series and the great music! 46) Grand Army (Netflix) Grand Army is a high school drama which follows a group of students at the same school in Brooklyn. The series is framed by a life changing event which affects all off the students at the school. We get to see how they handle it, go about their lives and try to figure out who they are and how they fit into the world as growing kids. Each story line is full of emotion, big topics and put some of the characters through the ringer. Odley Jean is a star in the making and her performance is something really special. I really hope Netflix gives this series a second season because I want to keep following these kids and where they go next. 45) Rick & Morty (adult swim) (Last Year: 24) Rick and Morty was back for the second half of the fourth season this year. We got to follow Rick and Morty as they go on even more alternate dimension adventures. They run into all sorts of creatures and crazy plots which always leave me laughing. We got to explore more with the other side characters and Rick and Morty's family. We got a great episode which taught us more about Beth and her clone. We had the really great Vat of Acid episode. There was so much packed into the second half, it only left me wanting more episodes. There's about 60 episodes left in the series order so there's plenty more adventures to go on! 44) FBI (CBS) (Last Year: 27) FBI was back to tackle even more cases this year. The team had to hunt down criminals and terrorists and more to protect the city and the nation. The series is in such a good routine right now. Cases are clever and you can't always guess who is behind the acts or how they're going to get someone to help them solve the case. The new season incorporated the pandemic lightly and has had some intense episodes so far. We saw Maggie back from her undercover assignment, we met some new characters and one of my favorite characters didn't return for season 3. I'll miss Kristen! She was such a bright spot on the show. The final episode of the year involved a criminal who will be likely popping up again later this season as the case was not resolved. it was so intense! 43) Harley Quinn (DC Universe) (Last Year: 90) Harley Quinn is such a great series. It's got so much emotional depth and special moments for an animated superhero/supervillain comedy. Harley is such a complicated character and they don't shy away from her insecurities and they really make a great complex character. She's bad, but does bad sometimes for good reasons. The way they explored her and Ivy's relationship was so so so good. It felt real and you wanted to root for them. The series has great supporting characters too. The voice actors absolutely kill it too every episode. The series will be moving to HBO Max when it returns for season 3 in 2021. I'll be watching immediately! 42) Mom (CBS) (Last Year: 29) Mom has become such a strong series over the year. It became more of an ensemble series about a created family rather than one about a born family. It's funny and emotional and hits all the right notes. You see how these recovering addicts go forward and deal with setbacks. it's real and vulnerable at times. There's no weak link here. With the new season, we saw Anna Faris exit the series, but they didn't skip a beat. The show is just as funny and emotional as ever and they still refer to her off on a new educational adventure. I always look forward to new episodes and will be back for more when it returns next year. 41) American Housewife (ABC) (Last Year: 33) This family comedy is such a hoot. I find myself laughing so hard at so many moments. Each character has hilarious lines and get into funny situations which always get analyzed and bring it back to family and caring/being there for each other. I can't have a favorite character because each one is my favorite. This new season introduced a new actress playing the youngest daughter and so far she's been a great addition to the series. It feels different but the same. We also saw one of Katies friends exit the show, and they have her other friend talk to her via webchat while shes off on vacation, which will probably be an extended period with the pandemic going on. They didn't incorporate the real world, but they managed to find reasons to have all the characters pretty much under the same roof this season. 40) Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All Access) Star Trek: Lower Decks is an animated comedy series set in the Star Trek universe which follows a group of crew members who aren't the big major guys that we usually follow in star trek series. They are the ones who handle the grunt work, heal the sick, and repair the ship. I didn't know what to expect going in initially but I was so pleasantly surprised at what they created. The humor was so much funnier than I ever expected. It was clever and witty and very contemporary with almost a Rick & Morty sense of meta. It poked fun at the Star Trek universe we've come to love over the years, while crafting really clever and creative characters with depth and emotion. I can't wait for season 2. 39) Solar Opposites (hulu) Solar Opposites is an animated comedy which follows a group of aliens who get stuck on earth and try to deal with the humans they run into in their lives. Half the group is skeptical of humans and don't want to be on the planet, which the others try to figure them out and get along with them. There was even a sub plot which followed a group of humans who were shrunk down into a small ant-farm style world where they have to fight to survive. It was random and felt out of place at times, but it was interesting. The series is very reminiscent of Rick and Morty, sharing a bunch of creative similarities and people behind it, including voice acting. I really enjoyed it and it was almost a way to get more Rick & Morty style humor in the year. The series was already renewed for season 2 and 3 so we'll be getting more episodes soon hopefully! 38) Black Lightning (CW) (Last Year: 32) Black Lightning was back for even more crime fighting in season 3 this year. We got to see the team really come together to take on all different threats which affected the Pierce family and their friends who fight along with them. We got to see Lynn deal with trying to save meta humans while also struggle with her addiction. We saw Jefferson deal with trying to protect his city from threats on all sides. We saw his daughters come into their own as superheroes and we saw Painkiller in a new light. It was so good and twisty and is easily one of the best CW DC series. Sadly, they announced that the coming season would be the final season, and they are working on a Painkiller spinoff series. I don't want this one to end! 37) Cannon Busters (Netflix) Cannon Busters is an anime which came out last year, and I didn't get the chance to watch until this year. It easily has one of the best opening theme songs and one of the best closing credits songs on a series I've watched. The series was a western mixed with robots mixed with lots of funny moments. It was action packed. The characters were really unique and the story was really compelling. I binged it really quick and was sad to find out there is no word on a second season. It was originally a comic series which evolved into a kickstarter TV series which was then picked up by Netflix. The chances of more are probably slim, but I can hope! The story was left on a cliffhanger so I'm going to need more! 36) The Good Doctor (ABC) (Last Year: 46) The Good Doctor is firing on all cylinders this year. The cases were unique, the stories had a lot of good drama to them and we got to learn even more about each of the characters. With the pandemic raging, they focused the first two episodes heavily on it, and then moved back into a world where the pandemic is over and things were back to normal. It was a nice way to keep a medical drama going without going too deep into the real world struggles we face. I question the choice to kill off one of the most interesting characters at the end of last season, but the new season has been doing a great job introducing new characters to fill out the cast. I can't wait for more when it comes back in a few days. 35) Blood & Water (Netflix) Blood & Water is a really unique drama which follows a young girl in South Africa whose older sister went missing years ago. She has always lived in the shadow of a sister she never knew and it still affects her family. When she meets a young girl who she suspects might be her sister, she slips into her life and her friend's lives and tries to uncover the truth. She ends up going down a rabbit whole of conspiracy and deeper than I ever expected it to go. It still maintains a sense of it being a high school drama too. You have the characters butting heads over small things in their lives while also feeling really grounded and real. I can't wait for season 2 now that more secrets were revealed in the season finale. 34) This Is Us (NBC) (Last Year: 20) This Is Us gave us even more emotional drama this year. Like other series, they heavily incorporated the ongoing pandemic into the current day story lines. We see Randall and his family deal with the real world issues of race and policing in the world right now. We see Kevin have to grow up quick now that he's going to be a father. We see Kate try to make sense of her past trauma by looking at herself deeper, all while trying to adopt a new child. In the past we see Jack and Rebecca deal with raising the kids as they get older. It's just as emotional and deep and heavy at times as ever. I love it and can't wait for more episodes in a few days. 33) Locke & Key (Netflix) Locke & Key is one of my all time favorite comic series. I read every emotional issue and have a deep love for the series. It was initially piloted at FOX years ago, but never got pocked up. Then it went down a potential feature film route to no avail. Then it was piloted at hulu but passed over. Netflix then swooped in and finally ordered it to series. This year we got the first season. While not a straightforward and perfect adaptation of the comic series, it made some changes that make it feel just as good and real. It focuses even more on the family aspect of the series. Some keys are different and some characters are a bit different, but I loved every minute of it. The series just wrapped filming season 2 and it was quickly renewed for season 3 which will film shortly. I can't wait for more! 32) The Flight Attendant (HBO Max) The Flight Attendant wasn't a series I expected to enjoy as much as I did. I've never read or heard of the book which the series is based off of, but it was probably for the best. I was so surprised at how good it was, especially because of Kaley Cuoco's acting and the way she was able to portray this damaged, emotional wreck of a character. She has such deep rooted issues that are brought to light after she gets caught up in a big mystery. Her little facial expressions to her deep emotional moments were just perfect. While initially presented as a limited series, it left the door open for more. The day after the finale aired, they renewed it for season 2 and I cannot wait to get more and see where they take us next on this crazy ride. 31) Prodigal Son (Fox) (Last Year: 69) Prodigal Son had a really solid freshman series run. The cases were creepy and twisty following a father who is a series killer and his son who is a criminal profiler. The interactions between father and son were chilling and rich. This damaged family felt so real and raw and you can see their scars on them daily. What I didn't expect was the final two episodes of the season to be so strong and clever. They were full of so many shocking twists I did not anticipate. The big shocker at the final seconds of the finale legitimately made me scream HOLY CRAP out loud because it was so jarring and unexpected. I cannot wait to see how they go forward now with how season 1 ended. It's going to be even crazier I bed. The new season starts soon and I will be tuning in immediately. 30) Upload (Amazon Prime Video) Upload was a perfect show for these hard times. The series was a heartwarming comedy with dramatic elements which follow a future where when people die, their minds are uploaded to a digital world where they can continue to live out their lives, and even communicate with those still living. It was so charming and full of emotion and there was so much chemistry between the two leads. You want to do nothing more than root for them, even though their lives were complicated by so many things. The series was renewed for a second season and it can't get here soon enough. I need more of this feel good series to get through these rough times. 29) All American (CW) All American was a series I wanted to watch since it premiered, but fell behind and never had the chance to watch it. As a huge fan of Friday Night Lights, I heard a lot of great things and similarities between the two series. While it is a series which focuses on Football, it does so much more than be a sports series. You have great interpersonal drama, family drama and even some really cute moments. The cast is solid and you really feel like these characters exists in the real world. Their struggles are real, their pain is real and their love is real. The series will be back for a third season in January and I cannot wait to see where they go next now that they shook up everything. I know it's going to be just as good. 28) Magical Girl Friendship Squad (TZGZ/Syfy) As I spoke of earlier in my list, Magical Girl Friendship Squad is a more polished and thought out version of Magical Girl Friendship Squad Origins. The series follows two young adults trying to get by in life when they encounter a red panda which grants them magical powers in order to protect her and their world from outside threats who want to harm them. They use totems, a birth control pack and a bong, to activate their powers and have to figure out how to fight as they are just normal people. They realize a big scheme is happening and get pulled in, culminating in an epic final confrontation which had me jumping up and down in my seat. It was clever and funny and dry and special. I really enjoyed it a lot and hope they will be making a second season because I want to keep watching these girls for many more seasons. 27) Martha Knows Best (HGTV) Martha Knows Best is a lifestyle series which came about because of the pandemic. The series follows Martha Stewart at her home in New York as she tries to tackle her to do list of things to accomplish on the property. She shows us how to plant, how to decorate and how to build different things. All of this is done by her and her staff and she usually one ups the staff! In the second season, she did lots of holiday themed tasks for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. She also takes zoom calls from unsuspecting people to help them with their problems and questions. it was really clever and unique and probably one of the best series to come out of the pandemic. I hope they film more episodes in the new year! 26) Lucifer (Netflix) (Last Year: 31) Lucifer was back after making a huge self sacrifice in order to protect those who he loves. He returned to hell and the show did a great job finding a way to allow him to return to our world and interact with the characters again. We see his relationship with Chloe grow even more all while having to take on other supernatural, demonic and godly threats. The season was initially going to be the final season, then it was expanded, and then they announced there would be another season. This year we got the first half of season 5, with the second half coming in the new year. They were shut down before they could finish filming season 2, but when they came back, they finished filming it and began filming the final season. I can't wait to see what comes next and I don't want it to end!!! The show has come such a long way since the first season and is great escapist drama during these times.

It's a difficult time I want something to take my mind off the rest of the world I'm stuck on season 8 of Grey's, I liked it but it's just too much to watch the same show for that long

ATRL Administrator Lee!! Posted January 1, 2021 Author ATRL Administrator Posted January 1, 2021 Lee's Best of 2020 - The Top 200 TV Series of 2020: #25 - #1 25) Julie and the Phantoms (Netflix) Julie and the Phantoms came at the absolute best time this year. The series is fun, escapist pure entertainment. The series follows a young girl who is still reeling from losing her mother. She hides from music, the thing that connected her to her mother. One day she is suddenly able to see three ghosts who were all former musicians who died tragically. When the four perform together, the ghosts are able to be seen. Once they stop performing, the disappear again. The show is clever and funny. It tugs at your heartstrings and the music was so freaking good. Songs like Bright, Flying Solo and Wake Up instantly got stuck in my head. The best song of the season was Unsaid Emily. So powerful and perfect for the series. Madison Reyes is an absolute star. If you want something easy to watch and escapist, this is the show for you. Netflix better renew this series! 24) Close Enough (HBO Max) Close Enough was a series announced back in 2017 with the intention to release on TBS in 2018. The series comes from the creator of Regular Show, as you can tell from the similar animation style. After no news for years about the status of the series, it was announced the series would be a part of the initial roll out of original content for HBO Max. I'm so glad we finally got this show. It feels very much like a successor to Regular Show. The comedy is similar, the animation style is the same and it still has a grounded yet out there sense of style. Its very much a series for the older Regular Show audience who grew up with it. These young millennials are trying to figure out their lives as adults and raising a kid. It was so funny I wish we had more episodes 8 episodes (15 segments). It was renewed for a second season and I hope we don't have to wait as long for it to return. 23) Adventure Time: Distant Lands (HBO Max) Adventure Time ended a few years ago on Cartoon Network. The series was revived for HBO Max in a different form. Distant Lands is more of an anthology series which directly ties into the bigger story over 4 mini movies. Each episode follows one or two characters from the main series. The first episode we got was about BMO which was an incredibly done story which gave us a lot more insight into BMO. The second one we got this year followed Marceline and Princess Bubblegum as they encounter a group of people from their past and have to take on their past trauma and fight for their relationship. We also saw glimpses at other characters in both episode. They don't necessarily fall into the time frame I expected them to which was clever. The next episode follows Peppermint Butler and the final episode will follow Finn and Jake. I can't wait for more. So far they've been so good! 22) Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (Netflix) I had never heard of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts until I left Netflix on and the trailer for it started playing. When I looked it up, a review called it a series that fans of Gravity Falls and Steven Universe would enjoy. That immediately got my attention and I began to watch it. The series follows a young girl who gets separated from her father after their home is attacked. Now forced to survive on the surface of the Earth where the animals have all mutated into talking bigger creatures, she encounters two other humans getting by on the surface. Together they team up to get back to her home and family, encountering many different societies of "mutes". She starts to see the good in these creatures after fearing them. She decides to try to bring humans and mutes together. The series released three seasons, completing the entire story in 2020. It was such a fun ride with beautiful animation and I wish we got more episodes! It was kind of crazy to get the entire series in just one year. 21) Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC) (Last Year: 80) Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has gone through many narrative changes over the course of its run. While initially being tied into the grander Marvel Cinematic Universe, towards the end of the run, it began to just exist on its own, carving its own destiny without having to tie into the bigger picture. Narrative wise, it struggled to keep me satisfied over the past few seasons but going into the final season knowing it would be the endgame, it really went into high gear. it brought back all of the feelings and love I had for the show earlier on. The season saw our heroes jumping through time, running into all sorts of characters that we've seen before, creating some really creative and fun stories with lots of action and drama. We got to see all of the character stories wrap up satisfyingly, while the team will never be the same after the events of the season, they're forever a family and I will miss each and every one of them. 20) Summer Camp Island (HBO Max) (Last Year: 22) Summer Camp Island is such a delightful show. The series follows a group of kids at a summer camp where they find out magic and magical creatures exist. The first season of the series aired over two years on Cartoon network. The second season dropped on HBO Max and was just as fun. The third season released over the course of three weeks this December. The three weeks all had their own mini stories focusing on three different aspects of the series. The first followed Susie, her and her witch friends and the history of the magic on the island. The second batch follow Puddle and his husband, The King, as they go on a honeymoon and leave Oscar and Hedgehog in charge of the kingdom. The final batch of the third season taught us more about the Yetis on the island and what brings them together. It was a lot of fun and I love the humor and wit. I really hope we get more episodes in the new year. 19) Dead to Me (Netflix) Dead To Me was a series that was on my list of shows to watch, but I didn't get the chance to watch before this year. I watched the first season of this twist dark comedy and loved it. When season 2 came out, I had to watch it immediately. The show follows two women who try to keep up with the lies and secrets which they have to hold on to in order to protect each other. They get caught up in a whole big criminal conspiracy to really interesting results. The best part of the series is the interactions between Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. They have such a great chemistry and bring out the best in each other. These characters are so creative and full of conflict and anger and passion. The series was renewed for a third and final season which makes me sad, but it feels right. It isn't a show that can just keep going on forever as much as I wish it could! 18) Everything's Gonna Be Okay (Freeform) Everything's Gonna Be Okay is the latest series from creator Josh Thomas after his extremely fun and heartfelt series Please Like Me ended a few years ago. The series follows a young adult who is in town visiting his father and his two half siblings. His father tells him that he is dying and he wants him to move into the house with the other kids in order to help raise them and keep some consistency in their lives. He agrees to stay and helps to get the two girls to move forward in their lives. One of the sisters is autistic and he has to deal with her needs as well. He grows close to a guy and their relationship blossoms. The series is very much one of those piece of life series where each episode shows a slice of every day life, but with their own unique take on it. It's real, raw and like Please Like Me, really good. The series was renewed for a second season and I can't wait until we get it. I really loved the first season. 17) Wynonna Earp (Syfy) Wynonna Earp had been off the air for over a year due to the series not having the proper funding to get things back up and running. After the delay, the series finally returned this year, picking up from the exact place we left our favorite characters at the end of Season 3. Waverly is stuck in the garden of Eden and Wynonna and Doc go to rescue her. Back home, Haught, Jeremy and Nedley have to deal with the fallout of the town being locked down due to the demons who reside in town. Things look a lot different for Wynonna and they have to navigate the new normal, running into new threats that come from her family's past. We meet a lot of great new characters and see the return of old ones. The series was only able to film half of the season before the shutdown so we only got 6 episodes this year. The second half will air at some point in the new year. I cannot wait. It's such a fun ride every week. 16) Homeland (Showtime) After an extended break between the previous season, we got Homeland's final season. This season saw Carrie return back overseas to help figure out the next threat against the country and try to find a way to stop it. This season saw he push even harder against the laws of the country in order to get the results she always manages to get. She teams up with a Russian spy to help prevent an all out world war from happening after a catastrophic event pits countries against each other. The final season saw a narrative shift two thirds of the way through which propelled it towards its final end game. Looking back now, it makes more sense but I know at the time it felt jarring. It was a creative way to end the series and keep the door open again for more should they want to come back. I'll miss this series a lot. It always provided a lot of high stakes drama and always found a way to predict events which happen in the real world. 15) Never Have I Ever (Netflix) Never Have I Ever is a comedy from Mindy Kaling which follows a young Indian American girl as she grows up following the death of her father. She deals with a lot of internal conflict which causes her to act out in ways she normally wouldn't. Her mental health is at the center of this series which sees her dealing with a potential love interest, friction at home with her mom, and her friends who try to always be there for her. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan oozes natural talent and her character work was perfect for a brand new up and comer. They way they tackle high school issues along with personal issues is a beautiful thing. The series was renewed for a second season which is filming now. I can't wait to see where we go now after such a solid freshman season. 14) Corporate (Comedy Central) (Last Year: 25) Corporate returned for a third and final season this year, skewing all sorts of issues and interoffice relationships. The final short run of the series was some of their funniest and best work. We saw the return of old characters and recurring jokes reappear. We saw them take on streaming wars and content overload. We saw them take on mental health. We saw them deal with office gossip. There was so much here that really got me laughing and thinking every week. I will miss this underrated gem a lot. I wish we could have gotten more episodes, but the short three season run spoke for itself and I'm glad that Comedy Central believed in it enough. 13) The Owl House (Disney Channel) As a huge fan of the series Gravity Falls, I'm always looking for the next animated series which would grip me in the same way. The Owl House follows Luz, a human who finds herself transported to a magical world. Her mom thinks she's at a camp to get her to calm down because of her over the top antics at school. She meets a mentor who helps train her to use magic. Edna is a wise witch with a lot of secrets and emotional baggage. She meets new friends and strikes up a close relationship with another girl who quickly gets a crush on her. The series is progressive, smart, witty and has a lot of emotion tied in. It's a great successor series for fans of Gravity Falls, as it even features the creator of Gravity Falls in a lead voice role. I wish the first season was longer because the wait for more episodes is so hard!! I can't wait for more. 12) She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix) She-Ra and the Princesses of Power was a show I didn't expect to ever love as much as a I did. I brushed it off initially because of its clear intended audience, but once I started, was able to see that there was so much more to this series. There were layers upon layers of character building, growth and conflict. It tackled mental health, what it means to be strong and what it means to find your found family. the conflict between Adora and Catra is next level. The series aired over the course of 5 seasons and ended this year. I wish I had started watching earlier because i would have been a part of that fandom so hard. It's one of the most supportive and smart fandoms I've come upon. The ending of the series was perfect and I wish we could get more. Every so often I see trending topics with fans trying to get more or a movie to give us more to enjoy. The world they built could go on forever. If you love some of the animated series I love, you will surely enjoy this gem. 11) Infinity Train (Cartoon Network/HBO Max) (Last Year: 19) Infinity Train aired two season this year. The series follows people who board the train in order to deal with trauma and conflict in their lives which they can't tackle on their own. The train gives them a number and they have to get it down before by fully dealing with their issues and then they can leave. The second season aired on Cartoon network and picked up following the events of the first season where we met MT, Tulips mirror reflection who escapes her mirror world and wants to explore the world. She encounters Jesse, a boy who boards the train. Together they try to get his number down so that his exit door would appear and she would try to leave with him. She doesn't have a number and it complicates things. Season three picked up with another character we met in Season two as she encounters a girl whose number isn't glowing along with her friend Tuba. Grace and Simon have the train all wrong and try to get their numbers up by causing chaos on board. Hazel softens Grace and it drives Simon and Grace apart slowly. It was so good. The series finished the season leaving more threads open to explore and HBO Max would be dumb not to give us another season. 10) One Day at a Time (Pop) (Last Year: 12) One Day at a Time was cancelled by Netflix last year, then picked up by Pop which is owned by CBS (now ViacomCBS). The new season was paused due to the pandemic and they were only able to film half of the season order. They aired an animated special episode too to give us more content. The series gave us a great midseason finale, which gave some happy closure to the family we've come to love over the years. What we didn't know at the time was that Pop and CBS would not order more episode and would end up cancelling the series after just a half season. Efforts to find a third home failed and we sadly now will have to say goodbye to this heartfelt and funny gem. It's such a shame. I loved this show so much. Every episode was deep and personal and yet real and funny at the same time. Thanks for four incredible seasons! 9) Star Trek Discovery (CBS All Access) (Last Year: 5) Star Trek: Discovery in its three seasons so far has traveled far and wide throughout space and even time. Season two saw the crew aboard Discovery making the sacrifice to jump to the future in order to save the universe from a great threat after their ship's knowledge. Season 3 picks up in this new unexplored future of the Star Trek universe. We see the crew has to come to terms with the fact that they left everything they knew and everyone they loved in the past, for the greater good. The series slowly explored this new world where a catastrophic event causes the federation to lose its grip on the universe, and conflict is brewing all over. We got to meed many new faces and great characters, and said goodbye to some others. The two part goodbye episode dedicated to one of the best characters, who will be getting their own spinoff, were perfection. The stakes are as high as ever and I'm really enjoying where they are going with the season. The finale airs next week! I can't wait for it and Season 4 hopefully in late 2021. 8) The Good Place (NBC) (Last Year: 10) The Good Place wrapped up its four season run earlier this year. The series was such a solid piece of television the entire run, and the final episodes continued to shine. We saw our favorite afterlife humans help to fix some of the problems with the afterlife system. We got to see them enjoy the time they had and were able to choose when they were ready to move on. The series final was touching and thoughtful and beautifully crafted. The allegories were perfectly executed and the series truly was a perfect show for the times we lived in the past four years. We are in control of our destinies and our choices and decisions craft our futures and futures for those around us. I will miss each and every one of these great characters and will remember it fondly for years to come. I will follow this cast where ever they show up next. Ted Danson's new series starts in a few days and I can't wait. 7) Vida (Starz) (Last Year: 64) First off, I don't even understand what prompted me to have this series place at number 64 last year. Season two should have been higher on my list as it was a strong season which expanded the world of Vida and gave more clarity to each character as they grew and became the person they are in the final season. We see the sisters dealing with trying to balance the legacy of their mother with the memories they had of her, and the memories of those around them. They also had to deal with their own love lives and we saw them grow as individuals in the relationships and help them realize what they want and the type of person they want to be. Season three was raw and heartwarming and real. The ending of the series felt a little too open, as they probably didn't know if they would get another season, but the season was promoted as the final season. It works, but it could have given more closure, but nothing in like is guaranteed or wrapped up in a perfect bow. It makes sense and I will miss this series a lot. 6) Better Things (FX) (Last Year: 13) Better Things is such an incredible work of art. The series follows a woman who is just living her life. Each episode is a slice of her life and her family's lives. Her three daughters keep her on her toes and we really see them grow up as young girls in a crazy world. The moments are real and raw and revealing. Sam is just a regular person, even though she works in Hollywood. She deals with everyday things like everyone else. We see her complicated relationship with her mother. We see her relationship with her ex and father of her kids. It touches on so many moments you wouldn't normally see in a TV series. It's funny, well acted and always leaves you feeling something. The series was renewed for another season and I cannot wait to see how they tackle the state of the world right now and what they have to say about it. 5) Steven Universe Future (Cartoon Network) (Last Year: 2) Steven Universe came to an end this year with the final episode of the coda series, Steven Universe Future. It picked up after the events of the movie which saw Steven take on a threat which threatened the entire town and world. With the help of his friends, family and allies, they saved the day again without having to really fight. In the final run of Future, we saw Steven's emotional baggage from being a child with the weight of so much on his back catch up with him. Never getting a real childhood and having to protect those around him make it hard for him to come to terms with everything actually being okay for once. He's always expecting things to go wrong and he'll need to step in and save everyone. This toll on him causes him to have a breakdown, resulting in seeing a side of Steven I never thought we would see. The series finale episode had me in tears and I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters that I've loved for years. it felt like losing a family member. While it was goodbye, they showed us that goodbyes are just in the now .We always have the memories and there will be more adventures to be had, even if its without those you love. 4) The Expanse (Amazon Prime Video) (Last Year: 1) At this point any of the next few series could have placed at number 1 this year. I was so impressed with so much TV this year it was tough to rank everything, especially the best of the best. Last time, The Expanse was my #1 series of 2019. This year instead of getting all the episodes dropped at once, we got a weekly release schedule. Therefore I'm only grading half a season right now. The first few episodes of the season were expanding the world building we've come to know and love in this series and universe. They were a little slow, but gave us a lot of information which would be useful once it kicked into high gear at the end of episode 3. The season took off like lightning at that point and has been running at maximum speed since. I couldn't breathe in the final moments of the last episode because of how intense it was. While out Roci crew is separated right now, each of their story lines are connected to the bigger picture which I bet will ultimately bring them together for an epic finale. The threat against Earth, Mars and the universe as a whole is new and unpredictable. This season is so so so good. The series was renewed for another season, which will sadly be the final season. The books which the series is based off is a 9 series collection, so I'm sad we won't see the complete adaptation, but I have my theories on why it's ending with season 6 and why we *might* get something more at a later point. We will see! 3) The Mandalorian (Disney+) (Last Year: 3) The Mandalorian easily could have also been the #1 series of 2020 for me. The series picked up after the events of season 1 and were intense and filled with lots of action, drama, and incredible moments from The Child. We even got to learn The Child's real name thanks to a character from the bigger overall universe making an appearance. That wasn't the only appearance this season which made me excited. We got so many names and people showing up with lots of history, tying the series into the grander scheme of things. it was well acted, beautifully shot, and The Child is the star of the show. That's not to say The Mandalorian himself isn't the star, but he shone in a completely different way. I loved so many moments this season its too hard to list them all. The Frog Lady was a great character too. So many great things were packed into eight episodes. The final three episodes went so hard that I was glued to my TV the entire time. With the announcement of a bunch of spinoffs we're not going to get season 3 of the show in 2021. I can't imagine Disney will keep The child off our screens for too long due to being a cash cow, but I cannot wait for more. The universe will keep growing and I will watch each of the spinoffs and new series. So. Good. 2) Ted Lasso (Apple TV+) Ted Lasso wasn't the show I expected it to be. Having met Ted Lasso as a character before he got his own TV series, I wasn't too excited. I didn't watch the series initially but after hearing good things about it, I started to watch. Boy was I happy I did. Ted Lasso gets a job as a soccer coach in England after coaching American college football and going viral on the internet. He appears to be a fish out of water, but we quickly see him shine. The series is full of heart, incredible characters, great chemistry between them, and a perfect story for the hard times we're all going through right now. Ted is a lovable goof, who is great at what he does, even when you don't think you can take him seriously. He always sees the best in his team, and those that work for the team. He's funny and charming, and you want to root for him. Even when things aren't the best in his life, he always puts others first. The first season was one of the best things I watched this year and left me with a smile after every single episode. You will fall in love with every character, even the ones you think you will hate. There were so many funny lines that I've been quoting ever since. The series will be back for another season in 2021. I can't wait to see where the show goes and hopefully it will continue to be such a perfect series. and the #1 TV Series of 2020 is... 1) Better Call Saul (AMC) This shouldn't come as a surprise. Better Call Saul is one of the best series in the past few years, and in many ways, may be even better than Breaking Bad. We have the luxury of knowing where some of these characters end up, but the journey of seeing them end up where they do is an absolutely perfect journey. We see Jimmy get even closer to becoming the Saul we met in Breaking Bad. He's still got one foot left in his past life and the forces are pushing hi even more to becoming who we know he becomes. The way the season was filmed with the INCREDIBLE acting was a masterpiece. How Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn didn't get nominations for Emmys this year was nothing more than a travesty. They put out some of the finest acting I've ever seen. Rhea Rhea Rhea. She deserves all the awards. Her portrayal and evolution of Kim is sublime. The character she has become as so much strength, yet restraint. She knows her power and when to use it. She's someone you want in your corner. I am scared yet excited to see what becomes of her character, since she doesn't exist in Breaking Bad. Every single moment. Every single actor. Every single camera angle. Each one helped to paint a series of perfection as we head into the final act of Better Call Saul. The final season of the series will be the longest season yet, and will hopefully be out in 2021. I wouldn't be surprised to see them break up the final season into two parts like they did with Breaking Bad. Also fun fact, the series will end its run with 1 episode more than Breaking Bad. These two together will be one of the finest universe and series of television I've ever watched. I will be glued to my TV to see how it all comes together. --- And that's the Top 200 TV Series of 2020 in my book! Hope you find some new shows to watch based off of my rankings and recommendations. We'll see now if I can get my music list out in time before Best Of closes for the season. Thanks to everyone who has followed along so far. I really appreciate it!
