Macchi Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) Top 100 songs Spoiler #100: Pop JoJo also made an appearance this year. The result was a mellow, catchy bop which did not have much replay value on its own but is not a song you would necessarily skip if it came on. #99 After last year's excellent bop 'Be Honest', it seemed as though this underrated girl had finally found her footing in a sound that works well to help her chart. However, the momentum drops a little with this offering which by no means is bad... it just lacks personality. #98 Neither of their best efforts. Its a little on the nose for me in terms of content #97 As has been the case for the last few eras, Monica hardly delivers with her lead singles. This is a nice slow jam but nice is as far it goes. #96 Its great to see this lad not give up on music. This is a nice pop song where he shows us he still has IT in the vocal department. Looking forward to more material in 2021. #95 A great introduction into the era. Miss Parx delivered; this songs makes me feel good! #94 I'm not even gonna rant on how disappointing it is to be a fan of this woman. She popped onto the scene in 2020 back on good form with her signature raunchy lyrics and the unusual production/structure of this song. The video is a damn slay... shame about.... lemme NOT #93 When I heard this song I was so hyped up for this next era (it did not deliver unfortunately). However, this song is such a heartbreak tune. This sound is good for him. #92 This song is about nostalgia and the whole instrumental and vibe plays with the same theme. Its such a great disco themed bop. This girl is one to look out for in 2021 #91 First of all, Nelly is still so hot. I need a man like that. Its great to see him delivering bops without compromising his sound. If the rest of his album is going to have a similar vibe then I am ready to stan. If all else fails, I'm here for an onlyfans Spoiler #90 When some artists collaborate with EDM producers, they end up either recycling their previous successful formula or they fail to create something unique to them. Both of these situations apply to ex-bald not-pop startlet Halsey. This song was nice but like all of her recent material, left me wanting way more from Ms Frangipane. #89 I liked this a lot and then it grew old really fast; and then the grindr gays started writing out the lyrics on everything from their profile descriptions to their tombstones. I still like the song, and I prefer RnB grande but this song was not really a lead single or even the best song on Positions the Album. #88 As much as I love Raye, I just couldn't like this song as much as I wanted to. I can't put my finger on what it was.... maybe it was the fact that it was 'You don't know me' part 2 that nobody asked for. Luckily, she has followed up with better material this year. #87 On what is one of the biggest tragedies of the year after the coronavirus, the saving grace from Justin Bieber's album is Kehlani. Nothing more needs to be said. #86 This little droplet from Ms Kachingwe is the full package. From the awesome visuals to the song itself; however, it doesn't really go anywhere - but some songs don't have to. It served its purpose well as a droplet and them operatic vocals in the background are a MOMENT. #85 This girl is so underrated but she is adressing that now by thankfully delivering with the CORRECT material. This is the sound she excels in and this song is a nice sexy bop that I never skip when it plays. #84 On an album full of disco bops, its hard to slot in a slower ballad type of song without it sticking out like a sore thumb. However, this song is the perfect balance. It doesn't just bring the 90's nostalgia - you could convince me this song was made in 1992 and I would believe it. The lyrics are beautiful and overall this song reminds me I'm getting old but its worth it for these 4 minutes. #83 The production on this song is absolutely amazing. It took me a while to get into this song but oh the synths... and of course Ms Robyn. #82 I have no idea what is going on with this girl's career and potential. However, I love this generic summery bop and loved playing it loud in my car over the summer. #81 Ms Noah has found the perfect sound between Lana Del Ray and Miley. This song is so well written, so catchy and so moody. It was perfect for my sad summer evenings. Spoiler #80 I think the reason I probably like this song is because of the BeBe co-write. Even before I knew that, this was a standout on an otherwise very 'meh' album. I love the spacey instrumental, romantic melody and the way I forget I'm single and unwanted for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. 6LACK also fits very nicely on this. #79 A female DJ breaking through?? And serving bops in the process?? MORE PLEASE! Jeremih really shows his versatility on this housey EDM number and the result is stellar. I look forward to seeing more from this girl in 2021. #78 God loves a tryer ( probably not so much in this case). A very small highlight in Ms Perry's 2020 edition of her fading limelight, this song is as close to the tongue-n-cheek pop perfection we loved back in her better days. #77 Proof that AlunaGeorge does not need to exist. This girl delivered her best material this year and she did it solo. This song is a good example of that - a pop banger with production values that are pretty much unheard of in your standard pop girl's instrumentals. #76 I'm pretty mad this sexy MF did not get the recognition he deserved this year. In a perfect world, he would have slayed the charts with this. #75 This girl is having a slow climb to public recognition but is delivering tunes on her way. She lit my summer up with this housey brit-pop banger. The pre-chorus to chorus to dance break transition is pure bliss. #74 Slow RnB Jams are becoming an endangered species. Teyana is one of the few artists who brought them into 2020 whilst retaining the essence of what makes them work in the first place. A standout on her album. #73 NGL it took me a few spins for this song to hit me the way it should. By then I wasn't even mad about the production value and the quality sounding like this was made in Solange's basement (let alone Beyonce's). She excels so much (more than any other RnB artist ever) in the dance/house/disco world. She needs her Future Nostalgia era. #72 Pop perfection. It fits the movie well and it stands on its own 2 feet. I love this song so much - is there anything else that can be said to justify how underrated it was? I'll save my energy #71 Nobody recycles more than Clean Bandit. Their name says it all; they practically steal production notes from their own hits and make 'new' songs with them. Can't be mad though - this one was ok. ( Still pissed they did not push Out at Night from the last album) Spoiler #70 As unexpected as 2020 was, I did not think I would be listening to a new brandy album (this heffa knows how to make people wait). One of the standouts was this song. Her signature harmonies, unique runs and spacey minimal production really makes this buttery smooth song an easy listen on the ears. #69 This song makes me want to get in my car and drive to the equator and just shake my ass. Its SO SUMMERY and it just doesn't get tired. Its a little different vibe from disclosure but my god its a good one. #68 I really love this song. I actually had no idea Kito was a part of it. There are so many versions of this song (and still this damned tik tok generation didn't make it blow up). This song is so unapolagetically 2016 and I think thats why i love it so much. #67 This bitch did this song so wrong in favour of the mediocre diamond mess. This is so vibey and moody but at the same time a nice progression of Sam's sound. This is what the whole 3rd album should have sounded like. #66 This song came out in spring which helped me like it a lot. Of course, Lauren makes this song but the instrumental whoooo. It could have done without the whiny man voice but its still such a good song. #65 This song got old for me after a couple of months. I've listened to the nicki version once and my ears signed a petition to get a new owner should I play it again. #64 I love love love this song! Its just so bad ass and one of the highlights from the soundtrack. Saweetie slays her bit too. #63 This song is good but it is soo not halsey. Its the only song that i still use from the atrocious manic album. I like this song and its not because halsey sings on it. The former bald star better return to form on album 4 or I will personally shave her head. #62 If you forget this song could be sung by olly murs, gary barlow or any other middle class appealing white british pop singer the song is just . #61 Although not as great as Physical (still fuming Physical didn't smash in the US) its a great pop song. However, the song contributes A LOT to Dua's disco movement and I'm here for it. Spoiler #60 Nicki brings her A-game to this banger. The only reason I listen to this song in full is so that I can anticipate her verse. So Good! ANd she looks awesome in the video. ***** deep and so is my pockets #59 Mrs Reece Witherspoon is a talented legend and I stan anything her ovaries produced. Her son makes his (non-singing) debut on the Nina Nesbitt led tune which is so catchy, so pop and although nothing special; it still manages to stand its ground in a playlist of bops. #58 The chorus.... THE CHORUS! Who knew Miss legendary Paloma Faith could BODY an EDM tune like this?? #57 I didn't really know what an A J Tracey was before this song (I still don't). But he delivered a bop right here and the very bland and borderline unlikeable Mabel surprisingly does a good job at being the chorus girl. I played this song more than I realised this year. #56 What a great song. I hated the music video soo soo much until it hit me that it was emulating this year with the online videoconferencing etc. #55 I really wanted to hate this song. Seriously, she can do so much better. No matter how much I tried though, this song grows on you and grips you and doesn't let go. Its just so catchy and crap at the same time. Lovehate it. #54 I had no idea that this leaked around this time last year. I still love it. The beat is banging and anything FKA touches is basically stardust anyway. Kanye could have stayed home though. #53 When the original leaked I didn't gravitate to it as much. When I heard this version it was an instant impact for me. The revamped production courtesy of the blessed madonna lady really was wonderful. Dua's tone melts with this song; its glorious. #52 Ok i like this song a lot because partynextdoor actually holds his own against rihanna without getting upstaged. #51 This is a subtle banger. A miley ft dua song had me expecting future nostalgia meets bangers realness. Instead, we got a parody song which still slaps when I'm in the mood. Edited December 11, 2020 by Macchi updated
